I was going to send a movement/performance artist I know a bunch of Marcel Marceau, but in the end just sent her this. This short clip is the essence of mime, it had something in it that no other artist has replicated. There was something of Jean-Louis Barrault's heart and soul in this scene - and in the whole move.
That leading actress Arletty is around 45 y.o. here and she supposed to play a stunning, sudductive young lady. This thing ruins the whole impression of this masterpiece as she does not fit. IMHO of course....or maybe there's a reason?
Totally agree with you, Arletty is not ugly yet not breath-takingly beautiful it's not believable four men would fight each other for someone like her (one of them has a much younger and prettier wife) + she is not likeable as a character 🤷🏻♀️
@@BeautifulSenorita It's not just about her looks though, the men fall in love for her personality as well, each of them for different aspects of it actually. Baptiste, for example, falls in love because she's kind and realizes there's more to him than just the character he's playing.
@@R0CKDRIG0 thay all fell in love with her at first sight so yesh it's suppose to be about her looks. And come on she is not even kind or sweet and not charismatic either 🤷🏻♀️
One of the greatest films ever.
A masterpiece! It gets better and better all the time and the 2nd part is magical.
That was such a beautiful film, and Barrault was exquisite.
He was good. Mime is an underrated art.

Arletty was in a relationship with a German airman and vilified after the war. The French collaborated, they did not fight.
She said " my heart is french but my ass is international"
And the movie has a great translation into german language. :)
Como se llama la película?

Was this the first depiction of a street mime in cinema?
Of course not... Are you forgetting the Silent era? Chaplin? Harold Loyd? They are mimes to a certain degree.

80 years ago in France during World War II, she was considered hot.
