Dig the video (pun shamelessly intended) - but I would have loved a table at the end with all these scores for a paused side by side comparison! Just a suggestion. Keep it up.
The chart can be found here: thebeardedtechguy.com/2020/11/28/the-best-litter-to-use-with-the-litter-robot-3/ Probably won't look too great on a mobile device. I'll be sure to include it at the end when I do my next round of testing, thanks again for the suggestion!
I’m currently using OKO Cat litter. I prefer to use “natural” litters made from wood, wheat, grass, corncob, etc. because I have dogs who like to forage through the litter box, and clay can cause intestinal blockage.
We use the Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Multi-cat in our standard litter box. We do see a good bit of tracking in the house despite having two litter rugs for the cat to cross. I think that it gets between his toes and gets stuck in there.
Just ordered the Frisco to try in place of the Dr. Elsey's we were using. The small diameter of the litter seems to get stuck between our two cats' toes and tracks through the house, everywhere! Other than that it works great in the LR3.
Sorry I watched this after I'd already bought my Litter Robot so I can't use your link, but really appreciate you reviewed litters available at normal stores instead of fancy, online only ones!
Just received my litter robot yesterday. Already noticed a mess with my clump and seal. Found your video, it figures the ultra unscented is discontinued 🙄🙄🙄. Look forward to seeing what you find to replace it. That’s the beauty of the litter robot right? The ability to just dump all of the existing litter and replace it with something completely different. Lol
Usually how it goes. And it looks like my runner up ( amzn.to/3qlTZOD ) is not being made anymore too. I have two boxes left of my old litter then I'll be able to move onto testing a bunch of new litters!
Thanks for the link on a $25 discount. I just ordered mine today. I hope is works out perfectly for our 2 cats. Ive researched it for a long time and finally gave in. Thanks for al your videos; they've helped me with my decision
Glad you've found my videos helpful! Make sure to easy your cats into the new litter box, this will help them take to it and transition over successfully
Please evaluate the Pretty Litter product! It is not a clumping litter, but it does change color if a cat has a medical issue such as a urinary tract infection etc.. The company that makes Pretty Litter states it is working with Litter Robot (Whiskers) to create a compatible product!
Thanks for the info! I ordered a robot today and I’m doing some research :) You have a gorgeous kitty. I’m very partial to torties! I’ve got 4 cats and 2 are torties :)
I like using crystals. I prefer Pretty Litter, but it's quite pricey, so I've been using the Walmart version. They say low dust. So there is some dust when pouring and when mu litter robot turns. Pretty Litter does not have the dust. I don't really like the clumping, because the litter goes so fast. I have used pellets before, but I don't think they can go in the litter robot. And if I remember correctly, they track easily.
Thanka for the reviews! I just upgraded from a standard pan scrape automatic litter box to the petkit pura x. We've always used the A&H slide and it worked well but I heard it makes a mess sometimes in the pura x. I've tried the Dr. Elsey's one before bc it was highly regarded but it was really bad. It built up on the sides of my old litter box so much. But after this video I think once I'm done with the A&H slide I'll switch to the multi cat version bc it's a little better. Thanks!
Working on it! Unfortunately the testing takes a long time because I test each litter for 2-4 weeks, so even testing 5 different litters can take a long time 🫣
I use a cheap store brand clumping lightweight litter. It works fine. As a matter of fact it probably works better because it's lightweight, which tends to mean it uses slightly smaller granules, and puts less stress on the machine when it is in cycle. I don't get any streaking, I don't get a whole lot of mess, aside from some tracking out of the machine by the cat, but that might just be because my cat is a sloppy little butt, but yeah, it works fine. Regular old no BS Safeway big bucket of lightweight litter. The machine has no problem with it, the cat has no problem with it, and it doesn't seem to put out that much dust at all. Especially since you basically only need to scoop in a bit more every now and then with this thing, unless you're going to give it a full deep clean, and you probably don't need to do that as often as you think you might.
Thanks for the comparisons. I've been trying different types and haven't found one I feel is "best". Funny thing...I just got a delivery today with a box of Fresh Step Ultra. May be perfect timing!
I just received an automatic scooping litter box from a friend and I normally use walnut base litter so I'm hesitant to use it but it's what my cats are used to.
It really depends on the shape of the litter (clean litter needs to fit through the grate to be collected) and what it does when its wet. If it clumps it might be fine, but if it turns into saw dust you're going to have issues unfortunately.
I would do a test cycle after putting it in to make sure it'll fit through the grate. I would love to know your experience with it when you test it out
I also tried a bunch of different litters and found that Boxiecat works really well with the litter Robo. It does have a higher price than most but works great. would love to see you review it.
Thanks for the review. I've been trying to find the best litter for my litter robot. I love the fresh step ultra unscented. It works great with the litter robot. The problem I'm having now is that it's getting so hard to find. I even tried target, Walmart and I can't find it. I love the review. So I'm going to start looking into the other brands that you went over. wish me luck.
Yea it seems like all of the brands went through changes the end of last year.... I'm collecting new litter to do testing with though so we'll see what I can find out!
@@BeardedTechGuy I found it again. They changed the packaging and the name. It's called fresh step simply unscented. It's green packaging and it works great.
Every clumping litter I’ve tried (Boxie and A&H Slide) turns to mud, which adheres to the side of my Litter Robot 3 Connect and to the paws of my long haired calico. He and his litter mate leave gray paw prints all over my hardwood floors and this is after tracking over litter mats and carpet. To give myself a break, I covered up the litter robot and used a very expensive crystal litter in a regular litter box, which I scoop every day and change every 2-3 weeks. I hate my $700 litter robot. My cats were extremely leery at first, but my tabby started using it regularly. The other long-haired one tried to use it, but I think he went in when it was trying to cycle, got scared and proceeded to use both the rug in front of my front door and the one at my back door. I got rid of the rugs and he’d just poop or pee on the bare floor. What I tried then was leaving him in the cat room 24/7. I left the litter robot off unless I needed to cycle it to remove the solid waste. I had to scrape the mud off the rubber gasket every single time. During all this, my husband was hospitalized and a friend (not a cat person) was recruited for cat duty. This was when Teddy continued to poop and pee in inappropriate places and the litter robot, understandably grossed our friend out because of all the pee/mud that had to be scraped off the sides. So when I see a commercial talking about never scooping again ( which is “truth” in advertising. Yeah, I get that.) I get angry. If I’m doing something wrong (besides buying the dang abomination in the first place) please tell me.,
Looking forward to another litter review. I was going to get the fresh step ultra unscented, but saw it was discontinued. I'll wait patiently to find out what the next best option is in your next video. Subscribed, thanks
I am in the process now for starting to determine which ones I will be trying next so hopefully in the next few months I'll have an answer. Thank you for subscribing!
Based on your thoughts/recommendations, (and looking into various auto-scoop litter boxes), I have ordered the Litter-Robot connect. I like this video, because I am wondering what would be the best litter to try in it when it arrives. I hope you do more follow-ups on this subject! Great videos! Keep up the great work!
I have been using Tidy Cat without any problems. I buy the litter in the large yellow pails. I tried some of the Naturally Fresh litter that is made from walnut shells. It has no dust to speak of and does a nice job clumping and very little, if no tracking. However, my kitties did not seem to like the texture and reluctantly used the litter box. But the biggest disadvantage is the price point on buying the litter. It ain’t cheap folks. Even though the manufacturer says less litter is used, I still shutter at what it costs. It is about 45% higher in cost.
Great video - thank you! Would love to see World’s Best reviewed too! We have been using it very successfully in our litter robots. Definitely open to others though.
IT is not recommended. The main issue is that most wood litters basically turn into sawdust when wet. I am doing a new round of testing and have a few pellet litters I will be testing to see if any could actually work or not.
Try Cats Pride! Dr elseys caused so many issues with my robot I think because I’d the weight of the litter. I’m also having issues with litter sticking to the sides and bottom of the LR and none of them seem to do a good job. Ugh
I’ve always used Worlds Best Cat Litter Multiple Cats and I do like it. Will it work in the litter robot? I just got one but haven’t set up yet. Thanks.
I'm not sure. It is on my list to check out though! As long as it clumps and can fit through the sifter it should work, but it may not perform the best compared to other litters
How would pretty litter stack next to these. It’s not recommended by the manufacturer to use it but a lot of people on Reddit and facebook’s LR support group seem to vouch for it
I'm not sure but I do have a box (well I actually ordered a second by mistake) that I am including in my second round of litter testing. So I'll know more soon!
I want to try a silica based litter in the litter robot. Besides Pretty Litter brand, I’m not sure which one. I know that it has to be fine grain for the litter robot. Would love to see that.
I will consider that in my next comparison. I am not too familiar with silica litter so I'll have to do some research to see whats out there. Thanks for the suggestion!
I've been using Kitty Poo Club fine-grain silica litter, and it does a really good job with odor control. I just bought a litter robot so can't comment on how well it will work, but being fine-grain, I imagine it will work just fine.
What's your favorite cat litter? Let me know below! Save $25 on a new Litter-Robot 3 when using the following link to order: bit.ly/SaveOnLR The winner: Fresh Step Ultra Unscented - amzn.to/2FXRI73
I see this one recommended a lot: Fresh Step Clean Paws Simply Unscented Clumping Clay Cat Litter. I just wonder how different this CLEAN PAWS is to their simply unscented version (which is supposed to be the upgraded/improved version of the former Ultra Unscented).
Forgive me if you have already answered this but how many cats do you have? I have 5 and 3 litter robots. I use Tidy cat but as you said it’s messy and I’m looking forward to trying your recommendations. Thanks for the great videos.
Fresh Step is the best litter 🎉 the concentrated brand is HIGH tracking and mess. I don’t recommend smaller litter particles. It works well for odor even in a regular litter box
The Fresh Step Ultra seems hard to get locally, so I'll go with the Arm and Hammer. I'm sick of my cheap, high dust litter that tracks all though the house. My biggest issue is a few times a year I put too much litter in and it creates problems cycling.
I'm mostly looking for clean and not sticking to the sides. Do you still think the fresh step is the best? Have you tried any others since the video? I would have thought the Arm and Hammer Slide would have been good because it says its made to not stick.
Nothing new yet but I have got a lot of suggestions of things to check out so I think I will be doing another comparison video soon. I am most likely going to revisit the Arm and Hammer Slide because you are right its supposed to slide, but I have never used it outside of for the litter robot so I am not sure how it normally performs.
I've used So Phresh litter by petco, have you tried it?? Thoughts? I've used this litter for years before I got my litter robot, and have used it for about a year and a half with the robot
Appreciate the video. I have found the Fresh Step liters work the best for us.... I believe target has pretty good prices for liter when not on sale. And if you have the target card you can get the liter shipped for free.
Would love to see a comparison using environmentally friendly litters! I kicked the bucket with clay based litters a few years ago and so far my favorite has been Naturally Fresh walnut litter. Don’t know how it performs with a litter robot though so haven’t purchased one
The issue with most natural options is that the clean litter is too big for it to fit through the sifter in the litter robot. I will do some research tho and see if I can find a few that will fit well and see what I can find. I imagine that most will cause some loss of clean litter but it might be worth it to use a more environmentally friendly option.
I have been using naturally fresh for years. I love it and my old lady does too. But I am wondering if it may be too big like he said. I am thinking about getting this litter box since I am really bad at cleaning the litter box everyday.
I tried the walnut clumping litter in my LR pros: light weight, easy to sweep from floor when cat tracks it cons: can make a gooey mess if litter level is too low to absorb urine. Also seemed to stain light colored plastic bin that i use for older cat.
Thanks for posting this! I use Scoop Away Multi-Cat right now but think I need to switch. The room the LR is in is really dusty and my daughter has been having some breathing trouble after spending time in there. Really hoping it’s just the litter. Do you have any tips on keeping the smell away? The drawer stinks terribly, even with that carbon filter in it.
I have not had any issues with smell on my Litter Robot. Is yours newer or older? I would contact support (they are very helpful) and if its under warranty might be able to send you new seals, and if its not they would probably provide some troubleshooting steps. Some people do put baking soda in the bottom (like a fridge pack in front of where the bag sits) and said that helps.
I've been using Fresh Step Ultra Unscented (amzn.to/2FXRI73) with pretty decent results. I find that if I make sure to fill it every day with fresh litter it helps. I do think I'm going to revisit the Arm & Hammer Slide Cat Litter (amzn.to/2NJ5yPl) while making sure to keep it topped off to see how things go.
I see on the Robot 3 website that some silica crystal litters can be used(unfortunately they don’t give recommendations). What are your thoughts on using crystal litter in the Robot 3?
I have never used crystal litter so I can't really speak to them. As long as the crystals are smaller than the openings in the grate they will be sifted out. This one (amzn.to/35MS8ty) seems like they would work but again not 100% sure. I will do some more research on the crystal litters and see if I find one to test out
Hi, thanks for your great review! Two questions: what made you choose Fresh Step over Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal if A&H had a lower dust and tracking score? And second, how would you say the scent is for the A&H litters? Thank you!
Great questions! The A&H started to streak on the side of the litter box after a few days compared to the Fresh Step. As the dust and tracking aren't that much worse (in my opinion) for the Fresh Step, the less streaking made me pick it. I do think the litter streaking depends a bit on your cat so I'd say give both a try and see which one you like better. I don't recall having an issue with any of them from a scent standpoint. Just the Target UP&UP was very dusty which made it hard to breath, but even that one didn't smell bad.
You may have already tried them, but I've used both the A&H litters mentioned in the video. The Slide litter smells so unpleasant to me, I've actually thrown it out after one use. Also, it's much closer to sand in consistency, which seems to encourage my younger cat to play in it, which isn't cool. I like the regular Multi-Cat kind much more, although it seems harder to find in stores right now.
My pick was the Fresh Step Ultra Unscented ( amzn.to/2FXRI73 ) however it seems its not being made anymore. I am in the process of collecting new litters to try out and I will consider including a cost breakdown. I considered it for this video, but there are so many different stores that have different prices that vary by region I was hesitant to really do that. If I can get a easy way to get a "a national average cost" for the different litters that might work. Thanks for the feedback!
I’m a Costco shopper. They have Scoop Away Complete Performance in the purple bags and Simply Purrfect in the green tub. Have you used them and how do those compare to ones you have tested in this video. I’m ready to buy a litter robot with your discount. Thanks.
Hi Paul, I just got my robot last week and I had the Scoop Away from Costco. This is the only litter I had and used. I have 2 cats, one who's urine piles are huge (he is big and diabetic) and one normal. My one with the normal piles uses the robot more. It had worked fine, there have been times that piles stuck to top or sides, there was litter on mat and stairs. The dust I didn't notice. I did think the waste smelled more than I wanted. I was going to put some baking soda in the drawer. I was here because I was wondering if there another brand would be better. So I guess I would say, it is ok. I will for sure use the rest that I have, then maybe try something else. Hope this helps.
Have you tried worlds best cat litter? I’m looking into a litter robot and my cats are very picky with their litter and I don’t want to try and change it if I get them a new box
Has anyone used the Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Slide? Seems like being designed to not stick could help us. I’m using Fresh Step with Gain now and it does ok, but seems to stick a good bit.
Hey.. great video! I am going to pick up some of that Freshstep ultra unscented.. my litter robot 3 arrives sometime this week. They have 14lb boxes at Walmart for $9.. How much of the litter will I need to fill to the proper fill line on the litter robot? will 14lb's do it? thanks for the great video.. can't wait to get my litter robot! ***edit>> actually I just checked and Petsmart near me has the 42lb for $20.. definitely a better deal... although I'm still interested in knowing if the 14lb would do it.
Glad you liked the video! Autopets say it takes between 8 and 10 lbs of litter to fill to the line, so a 14lb contain would be good to fill. My 20 lbs boxes last a bit over a month although I honestly have never paid attention to time frame of needing more litter just that I need more so it may honestly be closer to 2 months. I'd love to know your experience with the Litter-Robot and remember to gradually introduce the new litter box. Enjoy!
The stairs catch a good amount of litter but I would recommend getting a litter rug for under the stairs to catch any that might fly out or still be stuck to your cat
Could you add pioneer pet smart cat lightweight clumping litter to your list to test next? I haven't tried it, but it's made from grass, so it's a lot more eco friendly. It's also supposed to clump tighter than clay litter, so it looked like it might have less streaking in the litter robot as well. I'm not sure how the lightweight aspect of it would work though since litter robot doesn't exactly recommend it.
Thank you for the suggestion I will take a look into it! The lightweight liters I think give a problem for smaller sized cats. Mine is on the larger side of things so I think I'll be okay
Just now discovered your litter ratings for use with the Litter Robot (really like your categories), but the one you chose for your cat, Fresh Step Ultra Unscented, has been discontinued. :-( Have you found a replacement with a 1 rating for dust and a 1 for mess? Thank you!
Currently the runner up is Arm and Hammer Slide. I am doing a new round of testing with even more litters currently so we'll see what comes out as the new winner!
Does the Fresh Step Ultra Unscented also clump the best? Also, I had an automatic litter box that created a huge problem. One cat used it and jumped out, but another cat jumped in and started to urinate and the machine started to rake while she was in it, so she was paranoid to urinate in any litter box after that. Could the machine start to cycle with a cat entering it?
I don't really have a good way to determine clumpability. I didn't notice any major issues from a clumping stand point though. The litter-robot will sense the weight of another cat and stop cycling. There could be a weird timing where they step in right as it starts to cycle so it might start cycling but would stop as soon as the cat is sensed. If a cat enters while the timer to start cycling is going the timer will start over after the cat exits.
Hi! I am waiting for my litter robot to arrive. I looked for the Pet Fresh Ultra Unscented and it looks like it has been replaced with Simply Unscented. Are you using this one?
I stocked up on Fresh Step Ultra Unscented so I've been using that still. I've had a lot of suggestions for additional litters to try out so I will be starting my testing soon. I also plan on revisiting the arm and hammer slide as it really should work well for the litter-robot based on what its supposed to do.
Still using freshstep ultra over everything else. I have gotten a few more suggestions for others. I plan on getting a few more and comparing those sometime soon!
You can try it. The two biggest things are going to be that the clean litter can go through the grate and that the pee actually clumps and dosent fall apart when cycling. Are there any in particular you are considering?
Great video, I like how thorough you are with your comparison. I’m curious to know what you think of the fresh step after long term use? Also, wondering if you’ve tried the Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal LightWeight Clumping, Multi-Cat, Unscented?
Glad you found it helpful! So far still good! I did notice that if I get behind on filling up the litter with fresh litter the pee will get towards the bottom of the liner and then sticks. This causes it to not fall down until it's at a pretty high up and then hit the side of the litter robot and causes streaks. I have not tried that litter I'll add it to the list for the next comparison video!
Are you close to coming up with more litter options? I would love to find the best one for less streakage. I have 4 cats so things can get messy in our litter robot. I have to give it a good wiping every week, and even when I keep the litter filled up, it still sinks to the bottom matt. With having multiple cats, I'm trying to find the best option in quality and quantity as well.
I have about 5 more litters left to test out still so I'm a bit away from making any final decisions. If you can find Fresh Step Ultra Unscented I'd recommend giving it a try ( amzn.to/3jQCfth ). 4 Cats is a lot though for any one litter box, how often are you refilling?
@@BeardedTechGuy, we use the litter robot, and 1 other lidded cat box, but they seem to gravitate more often to the litter robot because they are still fascinated by it after a year of using it lol. I have to refill 2-3 times per week.
When I originally tried lightweight litters they were too dusty for me. That was years ago though. I know Litter-robot suggests against them if you have a smaller cat as the sensor may not be able to detect the cat. Do you have any you recommend? I can look into testing some out when I do my next comparison.
No matter what litter I put in the litter robot it still sticks. Did the Fresh Step Ultra unscented stick to the bottom? My cats have a tendency to use the sides instead of going to the middle, and so I have to scrape it to get the wet clumping litter off. Right now I am using Tidy Cat Free clean unscented light weight.
I've been using Fresh Step Ultra Unscented (amzn.to/2FXRI73) with pretty decent results. I find that if I make sure to fill it every day with fresh litter it helps even with my cat going on the back of the globe. I do think I'm going to revisit the Arm & Hammer Slide Cat Litter (amzn.to/2NJ5yPl) while making sure to keep it topped off to see how things go. The slide is meant to not stick and originally it performed well but I think when I started to not keep up with keeping the litter topped off is when I started to see the issues. I also have had a few recommendations for other litters to check out so I am going to be picking them up soon for a follow up video.
@@BeardedTechGuy I have been using Dr. Elsey, and I have a thick layer of white dust all over my furniture. I took all my books out of the book cases, and there was white dust in between the books, on top of the books, and behind the books. I cleaned up everything, and using 4 regular kitty litter boxes with grass kitty litter. No white dust on my furniture. Just normal dust. I don't know if the Fresh Step Ultra Unscented would be less dusty. I had the whole house painted last year, and it was clean, and then I purchased the Litter Robot in October. Each week there was a white layer of dust on my furniture. This is not healthy. Every time I went into the room, I felt like I needed to open the window, and there are times I did in the middle of the winter. I have three cats.
I am planning on testing out some new litters soon! I just have two boxes left of the ultra unscented I want to get through first. You could see how Arm & hammer Slide does for you. I had pretty good results in my initial testing and I plan on revisiting it with my next round of testing!
Once in a while it'll stick but it unsticks on its own during the cycling. The issue this causes is that it doesn't unstick until its almost fully suspended so it hits the side of the globe and streaks down into the waste drawer. As long as I keep up with keeping the litter full though it doesn't happen as often. So I am hoping that when I try the Arm & Hammer Slide again keeping up with adding litter will pretty much remove this issue.
Not yet, it's a bit on the more expensive side compared to others so I was trying to stay away from it. If I don't end up finding one that works well in my second round of testing I'll pickup a bag to see how it does
Fresh Step Ultra Unscented (amzn.to/2FXRI73). It still makes a little bit of streaking on the side of the box but its no where near what it was with the other ones I tested. I do wish the tracking was a little less, but its manageable with the steps and litter rug.

I like clump and seal Works great for older cats my female cat her belly is hanging low so when she goes to the bathroom the tidy cats would actually splash back and she would have a mess on her belly with the clump and seal there’s none of that there’s no dust the only con about it is heavy
It really depends on time of the year and location. From time to time Target has a sale on litter that usually works out pretty well and stacks withe the Red Card if you have one.
Thanks for comparing the litters for litter robot. I have been using Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Litter for a long time now. Not very happy with litter tracking but mostly with the mess it causes. I have tried Arm & Hammer, Breathe Easy, Cloud Control Clumping Cat Litter in my opinion a bit better than the one I am using though more costly. I wonder have you ever tried okocat Wood Super Soft Clumping Litter? I am interested in that.
I have not tried that litter. The wood litters would seem to probably not work in the litter robot. If I ever can get small amounts of different more natural litters for cheap I do plan on trying them out.
Something happened to Arm & Hammer quality control. It doesn't clump anymore! I just makes a muddy wet mess. I used it for years before it started doing that in May 2023. It makes a pee wet concrete that sticks between paws to the point of hurting my cat and not being cat-cleanable. It's a disaster. I tried finding out what happened and all I see is great ratings from previous years. It doesn't matter which product - multicat, slide, it's all crap now.
Given the harms to planet, people and kitty lungs that clay and silica clumping litters cause, I really want a plant based litter that can be used in a Litter Robot
Thanks mate. The internet was created for this kind of honnest and conscientious content 🙏
Dig the video (pun shamelessly intended) - but I would have loved a table at the end with all these scores for a paused side by side comparison! Just a suggestion. Keep it up.
Great idea! I will dig up my spreadsheet I used to track everything and post it on my website.
Glad you liked the video too :)
The chart can be found here: thebeardedtechguy.com/2020/11/28/the-best-litter-to-use-with-the-litter-robot-3/
Probably won't look too great on a mobile device.
Litter tracking can be a pain. I've had decent luck with this litter mat amzn.to/35RhxD9
Frisco multi cat unscented clay litter is the best I have found by far. Chewy for 15 bucks. Can't beat it. You're welcome in advance
Glad you found the video helpful! If there are litters you'd like to see compared let me know as I plan to do a follow up video in the coming months!
I used it and it just fell through. Lost my litter within two days
I use tidy cat glade sented. It works great
Thanks for the info! I ordered a robot today and I’m doing some research :) You have a gorgeous kitty. I’m very partial to torties! I’ve got 4 cats and 2 are torties :)
Glad you found it useful! Don't forget to check out my cleaning video: ua-cam.com/video/qU7wa-JUsf8/v-deo.html
Torties are pretty great :)
Clump and Seal was also my go-to but the formula seems different now
I like using crystals.
Thank you for the hard work you put in and the concise findings. This was incredibly helpful!
I'm glad you found the video so helpful!
Can you do an updated video for best litter but for the litter robot 4 please?
I hope to in 2023!
@@BeardedTechGuy Looking forward to this!
Thanks!
any plans on making a new litter video? just got litter robot 4 and looking for the lowest-tracking option
Great timing! I think the type of litter will depend a bit in the cat and how they go the bathroom. Would love to know how it goes for you
I just received an automatic scooping litter box from a friend and I normally use walnut base litter so I'm hesitant to use it but it's what my cats are used to.
It really depends on the shape of the litter (clean litter needs to fit through the grate to be collected) and what it does when its wet. If it clumps it might be fine, but if it turns into saw dust you're going to have issues unfortunately.
@@BeardedTechGuy gotcha. It's really fine litter so hopefully I won't have any issues.
I would do a test cycle after putting it in to make sure it'll fit through the grate. I would love to know your experience with it when you test it out
@@BeardedTechGuy ok, I'm waiting for the litter to be shipped to me because I buy it online so once I test it out I will definitely let you know. ☺️
@@BeardedTechGuy yeah that definitely wasn't a good idea. Lol
I also tried a bunch of different litters and found that Boxiecat works really well with the litter Robo. It does have a higher price than most but works great. would love to see you review it.
I'll take a look into it, thank you!
i would love to see how the purina multi cat litter would do
We use Meijer brand clumping. I’d like to see what you think about that kind.
Thank you for your thorough comparison. Is the Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Multi Cat unscented?
No
@@BeardedTechGuy , thanks for replying. I'm looking for the best unscented litter for the Litter-Robot III Connect.
Glad you like the video! I am currently working on testing a new round of litter so I am hoping to have a follow up video out sometime soon!
Yea cat litter is not cheap! I did notice a decrease in litter use which was nice, but its still too much
Can you use pretty litter with it? It's what we use now, waiting on our robot litter box
Great video - thank you! Would love to see World’s Best reviewed too! We have been using it very successfully in our litter robots. Definitely open to others though.
I'll add it to the list!
Just an FYI, Litter Robot says worlds best is corrosive to the sensors
Helpful. Can you use wood pellets with this litter box?
How do you empty litter out of the litter robot I lost my manual looking for quick instructions
If you push the "empty" button on the front it will cycle the opposite way it does normally and will dump ALL of the litter into the waste bin below

I see this one recommended a lot:
Fresh Step Clean Paws Simply Unscented Clumping Clay Cat Litter. I just wonder how different this CLEAN PAWS is to their simply unscented version (which is supposed to be the upgraded/improved version of the former Ultra Unscented).
Thank you for giving this update.
Forgive me if you have already answered this but how many cats do you have? I have 5 and 3 litter robots. I use Tidy cat but as you said it’s messy and I’m looking forward to trying your recommendations. Thanks for the great videos.
Just one cat. I'm. glad you enjoy my videos!
There's a bump on the rubber which is the fill line. Don't go over that and you're fine.
@@the_superb_owl I see you've been tracking me and Mind Shock. You can win the battle but lose the war.
@@BeardedTechGuy Thanks for the reply! I've subscribed, so I'll be on the lookout for the new video! Any guess on about when it'll be?
I've used So Phresh litter by petco, have you tried it?? Thoughts? I've used this litter for years before I got my litter robot, and have used it for about a year and a half with the robot
Costco sells scoop away- has anyone on here tried that? And does the Pretty litter work in the robot three?
Appreciate the video. I have found the Fresh Step liters work the best for us.... I believe target has pretty good prices for liter when not on sale. And if you have the target card you can get the liter shipped for free.
I actually picked up all the litter I tested from target when they had a BOGO deal on cat litter, it was kind of why I did the video... lol
Is baking soda bad? I pour the odor control powder inside the bottom draw to keep the smell out. We have waaaaayyyy too many choices today!
I'm not aware of baking soda causing any issues. I know a lot of people do that for the litter-robot. I personally have not felt a need to do so.
I use Petco litter from the refillable bin. Are you willing to try that one out? I haven't bought a litter robot yet, but very interested.
Are you referring to "So Phresh In-Store Refill Advanced Odor Control Scoopable Cat Litter"?
@@BeardedTechGuy I believe so. You bring your empty bins in and refill them yourself from the giant vat.
Do we have to use unscented?? I am trying a fresh step today they only have simply unscented and odor shield. That's it plus a few cheap ones????
You don't have to use an unscented litter. I just prefer them because I don't like the added chemicals or usually the smell of them.
Scoop away - love it
Thanks for posting this!
Great video!! Very informative! One question, is there is a particular reason you mostly tested unscented litter?
Glad you found it helpful!
I just try to stay away from chemicals whenever possible. Plus I find a lot of the scented litters to be too strong for me
yeah, scented litter is actually bad for cats. jackson galaxy has a video about it
What litter sticks least to the litter
Robot bladder? World’s best is pretty sticky 😖
Arm and hammer slide and clump and seal have both stuck to the rubber bottom on mine despite keeping it full.
It might be nice to include the winner.
Also, a cost analysis if you can.
Thanks.
I have not used either yet, but I will take a look into them!
What litter mat do you use?
I have been using this one amzn.to/3fQXUQA
Has anyone used the Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Slide? Seems like being designed to not stick could help us. I’m using Fresh Step with Gain now and it does ok, but seems to stick a good bit.
I tried slide (and use it now) and the biggest disadvantage is the smell of the litter itself and it tracks more.
I was using that and it seems to stick to the top when it cycles like it doesn’t clump quick enough
Hey.. great video!
Enjoy!
Do you feel like the litter robot staircase catches all of the leftover litter from your cats paws? Or do you have to get a mat?
What do you use now that your top pick is no longer available?
I'm actually in the process of testing out a bunch of new ones so I do not have just one I am using anymore at the moment.
@@BeardedTechGuy hey I just brought a litter robot, is there an estimated date for the new video? BTW tysm for the coupon !!!!!
How would the new pretty litter work for the litter robot? Considering getting the litter robot
It's on my list to test!
I was wondering do you still recommend Fresh Step Ultra Unscented above the other kinds?
Still using freshstep ultra over everything else. I have gotten a few more suggestions for others. I plan on getting a few more and comparing those sometime soon!
I know litter robot recommends clay litter but my cats seem to be sensitive to clay. Do you think clumping walnut litter would work?
@@BeardedTechGuy great video! What kind of tracking mat do you have? Having problems finding a good one
I have four cats and just bought a second box. Still trying to figure out the best litter to use. Two of my cats have long hair.
hi there - is there an update to this video for 2021 litters?
I am currently working on it!
Can u review the tidy cats multicat litter? 🙏🏽
Is there a reason you did not test any lightweight litter? That's all I have been using for quite some time.
When I originally tried lightweight litters they were too dusty for me. That was years ago though. I know Litter-robot suggests against them if you have a smaller cat as the sensor may not be able to detect the cat.
Do you have any you recommend? I can look into testing some out when I do my next comparison.
Lightweight litter ruins the censors in the litter Robot
Will you test Worlds Best cat Litter if you do another video? Thanks for this video!
I will take a look into it!
So they just discontinued the ultraUnscented litter and thanks to your video I used it and loved it. But now I don’t know what litter to use T-T
I am planning on testing out some new litters soon! I just have two boxes left of the ultra unscented I want to get through first.
You could see how Arm & hammer Slide does for you. I had pretty good results in my initial testing and I plan on revisiting it with my next round of testing!
@@BeardedTechGuy awesome looking forward to your next review 👍🏻
I've heard the new replacement for the ultra unscented is trash.
@@colinl5710 It is trash.
the costco green tub
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Doesn’t stick to the rubber bladder?
Once in a while it'll stick but it unsticks on its own during the cycling. The issue this causes is that it doesn't unstick until its almost fully suspended so it hits the side of the globe and streaks down into the waste drawer. As long as I keep up with keeping the litter full though it doesn't happen as often. So I am hoping that when I try the Arm & Hammer Slide again keeping up with adding litter will pretty much remove this issue.
Have you used the clay clumping litter that the litter robot sell?
Not yet, it's a bit on the more expensive side compared to others so I was trying to stay away from it. If I don't end up finding one that works well in my second round of testing I'll pickup a bag to see how it does
Have you tried scoopaway?
I have not but its another one for the list for when I do another test in a few months!
Which one do you use now?
Fresh Step Ultra Unscented (amzn.to/2FXRI73). It still makes a little bit of streaking on the side of the box but its no where near what it was with the other ones I tested. I do wish the tracking was a little less, but its manageable with the steps and litter rug.

I like clump and seal Works great for older cats my female cat her belly is hanging low so when she goes to the bathroom the tidy cats would actually splash back and she would have a mess on her belly with the clump and seal there’s none of that there’s no dust the only con about it is heavy
When I do another comparison I am most likely going to revisit clump and seal slide, along with a few new ones as well
what is the best $cost per lb on these?
It really depends on time of the year and location. From time to time Target has a sale on litter that usually works out pretty well and stacks withe the Red Card if you have one.

That sounds like a great idea to me! 😃
@@BeardedTechGuy I tried. The tracking is even more....
@@nusinvanwinkle8774 Ah, I wasn't sure how the tracking would be with those types of litters. Thank you for letting me know!
My cat just lunges over the steps so she get litter everywhere
How about the litterbox.com from the robot people?
I saw that one. If I do another group of testing I do plan on trying it out
@@lindsaybc1 I'm starting on my next litter comparison video and the one from litterbox.com will be one of them
Anyone try pretty litter in the robot?
Ever Clean Unscented Ever fresh
Can confirm this has been the best one I’ve used so far. I want to try some other ones that may have better odor control
Fresh Step Clean Paws Simply Unscented
Something happened to Arm & Hammer quality control. It doesn't clump anymore! I just makes a muddy wet mess. I used it for years before it started doing that in May 2023. It makes a pee wet concrete that sticks between paws to the point of hurting my cat and not being cat-cleanable. It's a disaster. I tried finding out what happened and all I see is great ratings from previous years. It doesn't matter which product - multicat, slide, it's all crap now.
That's disappointing to hear, hopefully that is corrected soon. Thank you for sharing that information!
They no longer make the ultra :(
They changed it
Given the harms to planet, people and kitty lungs that clay and silica clumping litters cause, I really want a plant based litter that can be used in a Litter Robot
Your cat needs to go on a diet ):
