Good morning! Love the blue and purple conversation. Lol Aaron, the more you have become involved over the years, the more vocal you have become. Love it!! I love the recap videos.
I completely agree. I’ve been watching since the condo days and it’s been such a great addition to have Aaron’s involvement in front of the camera instead of exclusively behind it!!!
I am so in agreement with Aaron on two things on this video. Kids NEED to learn how to work and do more everyday jobs in life. It makes no difference what profession they choose (doctor, lawyer, chef, accountant) they still need to learn the basics in life. The other thing I agree with him on is the difference between blue and purple. Most kids learn the colors in grade school but yet arborists can't tell the difference. LOL
Aaron is so right about kids not physically working today. I live in a small rural town & finding yard help, mowing, raking or shoveling snow is unheard of among kids now. When I was a kid everyone cut lawns, did yard work or had paper routes to make a few extra $$$. I worked babysitting, weeding/harvesting & at a cash register as a kid & yes, quickly learned what I liked & definitely didn't like (I'd always rather be outdoors.). I think computers, the internet, gaming & phone use has turned kids off to being outdoors & makes them frown on anything physical as beneath them.
@@AJsGreenThumbLLC honestly, they don't hire kids to work in blueberry fields here anymore. Bushes are either shaken by machine or designated as a "you pick". We have lost a little ag picking jobs for kids here. My husband and his siblings used to pick any berries, cherries, asparagus etc in season. My nephews worked trimming Christmas trees to. We have removed a lot of opportunities for kids to work. We have a ton of professional lawn care companies that switch to snowplowing in the winter. So we have removed opportunities, decreased responsibilities at home and given them electronics. Adults are majorly responsible for lazy kids with no learned work ethic.
I give this comment 5 stars! Same situation, small town but can't find a kid that wants to work😢. Still have a yard but without the ability to keep up so a lot of struggles physically. Such a shame, kids are missing out😮.
I love the conversation about kids having responsibilities from an early age. The best advice my father ever gave me after having my third son was “you aren’t raising children, you’re raising adults”. This always stuck with me because he was absolutely right! Children don’t need to be overworked, but having a few jobs they are responsible for make such good teaching moments & also great for their self-esteem! 😊
I just love watching the recaps Sunday mornings with my coffee and the peaceful quiet time. Even though I watched every episode. It's the interaction with you and Aaron that makes me smile.
I have been focusing on my garden since I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder in December… I spent months in bed not able to walk and having constant tremors. I can’t tell you how many hours of UA-cam videos I have listened to (my vision comes and goes so listening is all I could do). I have put SO much hope on getting better and being outside this summer… thankfully I am improving and can walk with a cane 🦯 now. I started my seeds in March and put them out ASAP. First they were hit with flea beetles 🪲, then half my tomatoes got taken out by curly top virus 🦠 (neither one have we ever had before). Then the rabbits took to them like a salad buffet! I literally cried because I was looking forward to the varieties I picked out. Well, my sweet husband bought me 20 more plants (just whatever Walmart had) and I still have 8 or so of the first ones so I am hopeful again! I am armed with different sprays and they are working ❤ Laura’s optimistic attitude has seeped into my brain 😆.
Four years ago I was where you are now with 4 surgeries in 3 months. And the garden was my joy and my hope as well as my therapy. You can do this! Best wishes.
I had tremors before, and needed to have weight on me to calm it down. Gardening is for sure my therapy for life, sometimes bare feet 👣 gardening helps too
I agree with Aaron! Certainly college students should be required to do hands-on community projects. As an elementary teacher I have a jobs list and my 2nd graders rotate through the jobs each week. We have a class librarian who organizes the book shelves, sweepers, desk cleaners, technology gurus and a teachers assistant who runs errands to the office. It gives the children a sense of pride and responsibility in our classroom. They get excited about a job well done. In an agricultural community such as yours, there is so much to be proud of and get life experience in trying out. As Aaron said, finding things you don't really enjoy is also a valuable lesson. It could save parent's money too.
Aaron is correct. The kids do need to learn what they don’t like to redirect to something they will love. I live in a pottery town and a lot of the kids that had summer jobs in the pottery would often encourage them to go back and study harder to improve to something that they can have a passion for.
I had a co-worker who grew up in the Pittsburgh area. He worked summers in the steel mills to earn money for college. He said working in the steel mills in that extremely hot, dangerous environment was a true motivator to do well in college. He had the mind-set that for the money he needed he could do that kind of work for the summer BUT NOT for the rest of his life.
@@cynthiarafferty7662 my brother worked summers and holidays in a shipyard and said the exact thing! He said he didn’t want to work in a shipyard his whole life so saved every penny and did well in college in Forestry and Range Management. 50 years later he is still loves what he’s doing with no plans to retire. We should all be so lucky! Find your passion!
Yes, Kathie, exactly. Career technical education is making a comeback in education - giving students explicit hands-on experience in a variety of industry sectors. It’s such a meaningful way to explore different skill sets . What better time to explore these outlets than in middle and high school? Could save students time and money.
What Kids? go to a grade school if you want kids to do chores under the guise of learning how to water a flower bed. I went to jr. college and I didnt join many clubs because I had a job and freedoms that i wanted to enjoy since they arent allowed in HS,
@@cynthiarafferty7662 Steel mill, those are all closed in chicago land. Maybe amazon will throw loose change in our faces if we hit 110 hours this week lmao
I like your comments about kids working. My children range between 28-35 in age. They were 4H and FFA kids. They were responsible to care for their animals. They worked in our business. My youngest has an Ag Business degree. I think the fact they all worked and had responsibility for the care of livestock made them better adults.
I SO appreciate Aaron’s passion about the color blue vs purple. Every spring when people rave about the redbud trees in bloom I am saying “purple bud” in my mind. 😆
I'm so with Aaron on the purple flowers. I get very distracted by the noise (in my head yelling "purple!") when I see purple flowers that have been labeled as blue. 😅That being said (or yelled), the red, white, and purple flowers at the college are going to beautiful together, and well done Laura.
Honestly, I think one of the most important things I learned watching this channel is to remove a plant that you aren't happy with and I thank you for it!
I absolutely adore you two❣️❣️. Not only do you impart a massive amount of information, your interaction with each other makes the whole video fun entertainment❤. Carry on❣️
Aaron your comments about getting youth to do work is spot on and sad. I work for a K-8 school and see the same thing. Next school year getting middle school students to do more physical work is a priority for their benefit and for our community. Thank you both for inspiring me every day!🌱🌳🌳🐞🦋☀️🌙✨
Yes yes! I've tried hiring neighborhood teenagers - they last one day. Can't even do what I can do (69 yr old woman haha). By the time they're in high school doing nothing but video games all their life, they've gotten too soft to do outdoor work.
I totally agree. I think that is why we have the people staying home playing video games and living off the government. I worked in Highschool to pay for my car and things I wanted. It taught me to have a work ethic.
I recently hired an 8th grader to pull weeds. My neighbor had hired him to mow. He was willing (maybe the dollar amount per hour helped) to do the job. I was happy to pay him for it, and my flowerbeds looked great. He came back to work 1 more time. He admitted he didn't really like pulling weeds. So I'm back to square one.
@@jennifercline7843 Me too. Started babysitting when I was 13, retail at 16 and then paid for my first car a year after high school. At 18 my dad said I was welcome to live with them if I paid room&board. In 1972 I think it was $100 - a bargain but taught me responsibility and self-reliance :)
I have lots of friends but my close number of friends is rather small. They are the ones I can count on to help me. Or the ones I will help should the need arise
I agree with Aaron re: having kids help work from the school age on etc. I think it will help them from an early age! I wish they would have so many different hands on courses. I think it would help with self esteem, to see what they love and get them ready for a future life as an adult. I wish I would have learned basic carpentry, repair etc. I was lucky to have parents and grandparents who felt kids learned from helping.
11 and 13 years olds were found working in a chicken processing plant, sleeping in day classes working over nights with sharp knives and animal blood in 2023, Its a 60 minute show on the topic on youtube. Yall want the kids to work but complain when they fall asleep in class and read on at a 3 grade level. If I have kids I plan to provide for them so they dont have to work in your yard.lets not look on the past with rose colored glasses read unpton sinclair the jungle. history repeats scary rhetoric yall are using.
Aaron, I’m so glad you’re more vocal now. This recap was awesome and I couldn’t agree with you more on so many things. The blue vs. purple - 100%! And your sigh about the cantaloupe in the flower beds, too funny. Love you two together. Thanks for a fun Sunday morning, as usual.
And the cantaloupe!!!! Oh my goodness, please don’t put cantaloupe vines in your beautiful flower beds Laura. I don’t think I could even watch the video. lol
When you were talking about plants being taken it reminded me of what happened in my yard one year. I had just planted some small azaleas in the front of my yard near the road and the next day three of them were gone (it was a Friday before Mother's Day). I later found out that a couple of the kids had taken them to give to their mother's (I was remodeling a home in what is a very low income neighborhood. And I found out who took the plants but never said anything about it as I knew that the boys who took them were really good kids). That summer my place was the hangout in the evenings when I watered my plants and I set the sprinkler so that it also sprayed into the road and the kids played in the spray every evening. The loss of a few plants and a little more on the water bill was worth it when I saw their smiles.
Stealing is wrong no matter what your income. Private property is a bedrock of civil society. There are programs available to help those who need help.
@@ritasicari7518 They were six year old boys who wanted a flower for their mother. I did help them later to get signed up for a program that provided food supplements once a month in our area.
@@ScotSheri They were just children who wanted to do something nice for their mother. Was it wrong, yes, but again they were children and their intent was good.

I agree with Aaron on the blue versus purple issue. Luckily, I can see color so just pass on the purple annuals when I am looking for clear blue. There ARE options. One example is salvia blue suede shoes, which is a full sun plant that is a clear blue at least in my garden! 😂
Our high school curriculum has a mandatory voluntary piece in that students are required to complete I believe 60 hours worth of volunteer work that is authorized and signed off by the organization/people that the student is volunteering with. The students have four years of high school to complete these hours and cannot graduate without having this done. Aaron - you are so right when you say that students would recognize what they would like to or not like to do through these experiences. I also learned that I never wanted to work in a bank through this type of a process. 🇨🇦
Amen! I’m thankful that my three grandsons (8-12yrs old) help in an urban garden owned by dear friends. They have learned so much! The physical labor, watching things grow, maintaining weeds, etc. are important life lessons. They work hard and enjoy some of the bounty. They’ve learned to eat different flavors. I thank our friends often…except when my grandsons come and CRITIQUE my garden! 😉 "Grandma, you need more watering!" "Grandma, that plant should be on the other side!" Etc. 😂
I am with Arron. Purple is not blue, and just because we are forced to use purple does not mean we should call it blue. Love the way you two enter act, a joy to watch ❤
Lol! Oh Aaron. I feel the same about the blue and purple. Like why do they call them red onions when clearly they’re purple?! No. “I sense so much sass” haha. I’ve always said, I’m totally here for Laura and all the amazing things she brings to the table but Aaron adds so much flavor to the mix. What a wonderful team.
Dear Laura, I just want to say that “I Love Your Videos”. They bring me so much peace to any hectic day which rejuvenates my soul. Thank you so much, 🥰 Chris
I was so entertained by Aaron’s passion about color accuracy. It get me every time purple flowers are called blue as well, just not to the same level as Aaron’s ire. 😂
I 100% agree with you Laura about planting greens. I’ve kept doing it and I so didn’t think they were worth the work. So, this year, I’ve planted no greens! More tomatoes because that’s what we all enjoy eating.
I grew up in an area where everyone worked, everyone had jobs in high school as well as college. I did not know what I wanted to do after high school graduation, so I worked until I figured it out. I don’t blame people who struggled to support themselves, get enough sleep, pass their classes, etc., for wanting their children to have a different experience. I do think Aaron is totally right, there are many benefits to working when you’re in high school or college, even if it is just a summer job. I not only learned a lot about what I enjoyed and didn’t enjoy, but I also got a head start on developing the interpersonal communication and customer service skills that I use every day as a registered nurse. I love teaching new nurses, and one of the hardest things is coaching new graduate nurses with no work history how to communicate with patients and family members (especially in challenging situations). Their new jobs are hard enough to adapt to WITH those skills. It is super frustrating for them to have done all of the work to get their degrees, obtain their licenses, and be working in a high stress environment requiring such specialized skills and knowledge, and to struggle with the basics of communication. Also, how lucky are Laura and Aaron’s friends? Do y’all need another friend? 😂
Communication deficit is a BIG problem these days! I see it at almost every store or business I go in, and also in doctors' offices. And, actually, that doesn't just apply to younger adults, always...courtesy is sorely lacking. We're becoming "not polite" these days. I retired from a 30 yr teaching career (elementary) in 2017, and saw it with young parents. I teach 3 yr olds, now in my retirement job...the parent pick-up is jaw dropping sometimes. Young parents who don't say "hello", or are...grrrrr...on their phones while you're putting their child in the vehicle. Not all, but I'm seeing it more and more. Young dads...I'm seeing more poor communication skills. I don't understand. It's the new world, and this might seem extreme, but I think the US is going straight off a cliff, as I heard a notable person say in an interview. It's so disheartening. Ok...off my soapbox!
@@LynnpaperweightI Totally Agree with everything you said!! I am glad I am as old as I am I dont want to be around to see what happens in the not too distant future!!😢
We used a PVC pipe to put our potatoes in the ground. Worked like a charm. Thank goodness it’s finally out there…purple is NOT blue, so we can stop pretending. Thanks Aaron.
Thank you for another great recap for the week. 🙏 I agree with Aaron. I want true blue flowers. I realize there aren’t many to choose from. But don’t sell me purple and call it blue. 👍💚💚💚
Yes for the gardening siesta, I am a senior gardener in France and live by the siesta.I garden for 2 to 3 hours, stop for ‘repas midi’ and a siesta. Then cup of tea ( I’m British!) and back at it for a while then watering till near dark. And yup I sleep well 😁😎🇫🇷
I love these weekly recaps - thank you for being your true selves. You have inspired me to get rid of plants that just aren't working, but perfectly alive.
You are so right Aaron about the kids working. We used to work every summer because I grew up on a tobacco farm with cotton, corn and cucumbers. Neighbor kids that didn’t live on a farm would help to buy school clothes. That’s what my children did, they worked with my parents which were their grandparents and they learned so much and they made and saved their money. It seems kids don’t need money and don’t want to work for it. Anyway enough about that. Thanks for everything. Pat in North Carolina

One of the ways to control Japanese Beetles is to the treat your lawn for grubs since that is what they develop from. There are also Japanese Beetle traps once the little buggers are actually here.
Just earlier this month, I found +-40 grubs in the soil of EACH of the 4 XL Grow Pots I used for Tomatoes last year! I had to Google to see what they were! So I picked them out and put them in soapy water. Then finally in a bag in the trash. Washed the fabric with a bleach solution. So I didn't reuse the soil for tomatoes as per 'research', but did a trial using it for a pot of flowers. I picked all the grubs out... Anyone have experience with re-using that soil?
Hi Laura! I’ve been on vacation and off of social media for a week. I came home and my dahlias are popping through the soil! Yay! I’m zone 6A, so just checking in to see if your dahlias survived the winter 🤞🫶☺️

Aaron haha you were cracking me up in this video. I loved your "sass" and I enjoyed seeing Laura's reaction. Its good to hear your opinions always. Keep it up.
The recap video is an integral part of my “wake up” process on Sundays where I wake up, make a cup of coffee, get back in bed and watch the recap. I always dread it ending because that marks when I need to physically get out of bed and get started with whatever chores or activities the rest of the day holds. Today is nothing but yard work, which includes digging up and weeding out as much morning glory bindweed I can. It’s going to be terrible. Laura, if you can somehow banter with Aaron for another 15-20 mins every Sunday during the recap.. that would be great! 😅😂

But they're pink tho... 😂😅
Purple bud! Hahaha so true
Pink bud! Lol
Carry on❣️
💯💯💯💯
@@curiouscat3384 Yep that is so missing in today's world. Humm is that the plan to make people rely on the government????🤔
I’m always amazed by how many friends Laura has! I can count my friends on less than one hand 😅
But I bet those friends are very trusted…. Everyone is different
I was born after 1988, so all my friends and I can't stop working long enough to hang out, or we'll lose everything. 😂😭
I have lots of friends but my close number of friends is rather small. They are the ones I can count on to help me. Or the ones I will help should the need arise
She has a lot of gardening friends so they have so much in common!
Growing up in a small town gives you more opportunities for friendship, I've found. Plus, being involved in a church lends to friendships too.
As a designer I’m with Aron about the purple being sold as blue.
Same. It bugs me as well.
What about the dwarf morning glory “blue my mind” by proven winners. I have it in containers in my garden and they are true blue!
I'm with Aaron on this one as well. I love Laura so much but every time she called those blue my teeth clenched a little 🤣🤣🤣
Or blue Lovell, bachelor button

I loved the blue vs purple "sass" talk/discussion. Made me laugh 😂!
You are a beautiful person!!!
I wish more people were like you! 😊 some folks are so intolerant anymore

I look forward to .Sunday mornings just to listen to the two of you chat away, Thank you for making Sunday mornings even better.
It’s like a Sunday morning visit with friends 😊❤️
I’m with Aaron with the blue/ purple flowers. It drives me absolutely bananas!🤣😅
Thanks for the updates, I'm glad I'm not the only one to say that those flowers are so not blue, lol, it bothered me....
I love listening to Aaron complain about planting things and colors. He's in such a mood today. 🤪😝
Love how sassy Aaron is on subjects he feels passionately about.
I am with Arron. Purple is not blue, and just because we are forced to use purple does not mean we should call it blue. Love the way you two enter act, a joy to watch ❤
I so agree with Aaron 😊 I feel lied to while trying hard to buy a blue plant.
Lol!
Hey guys, have you tried a high pressure water hose on you brick paths. We’ve had terrific success cleaning that way.
Haha, I’m with you Aaron about the blue/purple issue. But, your passionate anger cracks me up😂.
I laughed out loud at Aaron’s purple/blue conversation with himself.
Plant the area around the gazebo that was moved to the park... A great community project that all can enjoy!
I 100% agree with you Laura about planting greens. I’ve kept doing it and I so didn’t think they were worth the work. So, this year, I’ve planted no greens! More tomatoes because that’s what we all enjoy eating.
So glad you're caring for the killdeers ❤
The “purple” discussion made me laugh out loud AND snort! Thank you for that!! 🤣
I agree with Aaron on the difference between blue and purple. So appreciate his passion on purple vs blue. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I totally agree with Aaron about the blue/purple thing! Seriously, we can all see that it’s purple!
Haha! Loved the little spat over blue, made me laugh out loud. My dog is looking at me like I'm crazy. I just love you two!
We used a PVC pipe to put our potatoes in the ground. Worked like a charm. Thank goodness it’s finally out there…purple is NOT blue, so we can stop pretending. Thanks Aaron.
Thank you for another great recap for the week. 🙏
I agree with Aaron.
And yup I sleep well 😁😎🇫🇷
Thank you, Aaron! It makes me think that I'm colorblind, which I'm not, every time I hear people say blue when the flower is purple!
I love these weekly recaps - thank you for being your true selves. You have inspired me to get rid of plants that just aren't working, but perfectly alive.
Hahaha! I'm still smiling at Aaron's passion around "purple" plants. LOL, love it!
I love the recap videos. It has given Aaron a voice whether he wanted to or not LOL, I am camera shy as well. 😃

I laughed out loud when Aaron went off on the blue vs purple… totally agree with Aaron!
I'm with Aaron on the blue bloom argument!!! I legitimately thought I had colour blindness to blues and purples since I couldn't differentiate why a purple flower was being called blue!
Aaron, you made my day! I agree 100% with your comments on ‘blue.” It’s crazy! Thank you for venting for me!

Oh Arron!!! I SO agree! I have been so disappointed when I see the “ blue” flowers. I like purple. And sometimes the “purple” looks magenta! 😩. I too get BERY frustrated. 👍👍👍
Cracked me up when Aaron rubbed his face and said "why would you do that?" 😂
Aaron is such a frustrated gardener today...lol. It's so funny...
Caring is contagious and so is sprucing up your home and garden. ❤️🌸 Fact.
I absolutely loved the back-and-forth between the two of you regarding blue versus purple! I thought you were going to break into a rumble! You two are so cute together, even when you’re disagreeing “robustly” on a topic. Love you guys! ❤️
I’m with Aaron on the blue/purple thing. It drives me crazy when purple is called blue. Amsonia Blue Star ‘Blue Ice’ is a good blue.
Also, Amsonia Storm Cloud. I just bought 3 this spring and they were so blue and beautiful that I plan on buying more.
Yes! Aaron I thought I was the only one! I drives me nuts to see things labeled blue that are obviously PURPLE! You are so correct!

I laughed out loud at the blue/purple conversation! It was so funny you guys. I agree with Aaron I must admit.

That’s hilarious… and almost the same thing I feel, too!!

Hi guys, have you ever thought of just powerwashing you brick walkway and then resanding it? That is what they do in our area. Then they just would relay the lower areas. We've had that done a couple of times and it works great.
I think they did that, but the binding agent used on top of the sand was so hard that it wouldn't wash or scrub off.
If you take a pic of your pot wheeler, you can do a Google picture search and maybe find it and where it's sold.
I could really feel the tension and the heat of the conversation between the 2 of you! Yes thankyou Aaron. It definitely got you riled up. Had a laugh at that😂. Good job guys
Oh! And I’m also with Aaron, drives me up the wall when they call purple flowers blue! 😊
I don't eat a lot of salad. But I grow a small amount of greens in pots and I'll pop out for a few leaves to add to a sandwich or something. When I make a salad the salad spinner makes quick work of cleaning them - I recommend that.
