I loved everything about it until the musical number at the end, which felt a bit tacked on. I really wish they had incorporated it into the story, either as a F.U. to the maestro, or as a way to sort of suck all the stolen music out of them and redistribute it back into the world.
The song Ruby was playing, is her theme. We've heard the full theme in the BBC Radio 2 anniversary concert for the 60th. If you listen closely, most of the music in this episodes are different parts of Ruby's theme.
2:37 This might be kind of nitpicky, but I am kind of concerned about the implications here. I'm guessing The Doctor revived the butterfly with a little bit of regeneration energy and we've seen him do it before, but this is the first time he's done it since the Timeless Child reveal, which implies he can regenerate infinitely and seems to have unlimited regeneration energy or just a shitton of it. So now if anyone close to him dies, the question of "why can't he just revive them now that he knows he won't use up the rest of his lives?" will always be in the back of my mind.
Isn't your question answered in a previous series when Rose Tyler looked into the vortex and brought Jack back to life. The Doctor (Eccleston) told her that she shouldn't do that because nobody should be the arbiter of life and death.
@@stephenthorpe3591I think in that instance it was because the Bad Wolf Entity was a power nobody was supposed to have. Rose didn't just bring Jack back, she basically made him into a fixed point forever. But The Doctor using their regeneration energy is a naturally occurring thing in the universe.

I'm glad they released episode 1 and 2 at once because if it was just episode 1 I would have thought it was just as bad as Chibnall and never watched more. I'm glad that episode 2 was so much better
honestly I was skeptical at first. Space babies at its lows reminded me of the Chibnal era. But the devils cord was what dr who has been needing for years. The maestro kind of reminds me of the dream lord in that they are confident that they have the doctor completely powerless. If every following episode is like the devils cord this might be the best series of doctor who !
@@LordLOCyeah it would be cool, but the reveal at the end of Amy’s choice that the doctor was the dreamlord and that the dreamlord has no power over the real world was a perfect end and kinda depowered the character
I personally wasn't much reminded of Chibnall in "Space Babies". It was far better acted for one thing, and although there was a lot of exposition, it was handled better. Perhaps the lows had more in common with the lows of the RTD1/Moffat eras than anything else - farting spaceships/burping bins; Bogey Man made of bogies/eye-mucus creatures in Sleep No More. space babies had some good stuff in it, the voice dubbing was abit off putting by its nature. the reason the monster is saved is the doctor has a soft spot for only ones of its kind and it was made by the birthing machine to his mind still making it one of the kids that nanny stayed to save, add in the doctors general value for life and it makes sense why it was saved to me at least. loved the devils chord the performances in it where so expressive it was awesome & if you have seen legion or played control or the like when things turn eldritch they can often turn musical which is personally something i enjoy. between the mention of things like the rani and Susan and so on Russel knows exactly what buttons he is pushing and is having alot of fun with it. as for the toymakers legions im really looking forwards to more of that. wondering if they will all be off shoots of the rules of play, music, art so on? will we get a god of horror stories or something? who knows. establishing the butterfly effect early on reads to me that since RTD is using his production company to make all the things and such he really wants to play with the consequences of changing time in this series. Say what you will about the chibnal erra (many have) but RTD has picked up those pieces and stuff from even futher back we now have a doctor willing to talk about things instead of repressing them and that feels likes its gonna lead to all sorts of juicy lore and interesting things.

Dont really understand why Chibnall is the reason you dont like the exposition on gallifrey. Gallifrey has been destroyed multiple times in newWho. Its a very common plot device, having been destroyed atleast 9 times over the last 60 yrs... Love your reactions though !!
Because we literally just came out of a 12 year story arch that had gallifrey destroyed and against all odds brought back, not to mention all of the trauma this had on the doctor that influenced the whole story for years. However this lead to open a new era in which stories could be told with potential other time lords and stories set on gallifrey, only for a year and a half later to have the master “destroy” it again single-handedly all off screen.
