Dan asked why they take pictures of watches at 10 past 10 and it's actually because having both hands of the watch on either side of the clock face ensures you will see them, meaning they can be appreciated, another big reason is that the brand of the watch may be blocked if the watch read 12 o'clock since most watches position their brands right under the 12 so therefore having it at 10 past 10 reduces the risk of obscuring anything. A less formal reason could be that people see it as the watch smiling and therefore like the look of it better subconsciously.
For anyone wanting the answer, 10:10/01:50 looks like a smile and happier clocks sell better. (It also shows both hands, is symmetrical, and avoids other icons on the face, but personally I find those less important)
