It's a pity some of those classic structures are gone.
What a grand glimpse of Atlantic City perhaps at the pinnacle of its popularity. Amazing color retention despite the passage of a considerable amount of time. I will echo the comment of RW R regarding the needless destruction of Atlantic City's Traymore Hotel c. 1972. I would add to the Traymore the Marlboro- Blenheim and a host of other architectural masterpieces of the past that are now lost forever. These places were built to last for centuries but due to changing fads and styles appreciation for their beauty fell by the wayside. There is a brief shot of Huylers restaurant. My family and I had the opportunity to eat there in the mid 70's. It was a nice experience.
I stayed at the Traymore with my parents on a summer weekend in 1971. I was only 11 years old.
The beautiful Traymore Hotel @2:10. It was torn down for the new generation of hotels, and after 45 years, it is a vacant lot. My god what a waste. It was a literal treasure.

The casino owners as I understand it wanted to keep the grand hotels and I guess restore them as I understand it. The city government said no and almost all were torn down. One of the casino owners worked part of the original design of the new hotel, I forget which one. But you can walk inside and see part of the original design and ceiling. Those hotels were indeed beautiful, especially the Treymore. While watching Boardwalk Empire I was in awe at the exterior set designs and the interiors... at moments it felt like stepping back in time.

Cant help but notice the absence of something….
Atlantic City is one of the best beach areas in NJ because it offers casinos, fine dining, shows and people from all around the world 🌍 visit, it's the closest to Manhattan..... about a 2 hour drive with good traffic and daily departures to and from the NYC Port Authority. 👏👏👏👏👏

Having visited AC for the first time earlier this year while visiting family in the US, I can't imagine what a stunning city it would be today had these buildings survived.
The amount of Old World Buildings in AC is mind blowing...the crap they build today is worthless compared to these works of art!
We descended into a world of trash. No wonder it is so disposable now. You cannot be great without rock-solid values. GOD SAVE THE WEST!
Noticed a couple of things about this. It seems to be shot on two different days. If you notice at both 1:44 and 6:49, the marquee for the Warner Theater has two different movies. The first one, "The Impatient Years" was released Sept 1944. Also showing is evidence of damage from the hurricane of the same month. Later on, the marquee showed "Bring on the Girls" which was from March 1945, which would confirm it was from Easter of 1945, along with the Steel Pier marquee.
5:33: Wow! Huyler’s was my grandparent’s restaurant. It survived until the 1980’s. They also owned a bingo hall. My middle name is Huyler.

My Mom and Dad went there for their honeymoon, about 1957, I was born in 1960. I've been there myself, it's cool, I live on the coast of Boston, just south on the ocean, very similar to their beaches, the cold, clean Atlantic ocean, my home, where I feel best. Thank you for video.

It's a shame they tore down most of those old hotels. They were architectural wonders. In this video you will see The Ritz, The Marlborough, The Blenheim, The Dennis, The Claridge, The Brighton, The Madison, the top of Haddon Hall and the one most prominently featured is The Traymore. I'm sure I'm missing a few but those were the bigger ones.

When you watch some current videos of the AC, boardwalk, you realize that it is now just a shell of what it once was. The nice stores have been replaced with spaces that look like flea market booths. To tear down magnificent structures like the Traymore in favor of what is now a vacant lot is just criminal. The Million Dollar Pier is now a mostly vacant "upscale" former shopping mall. I will always love AC deeply, but they ruined it forever.
The lobby area of the Marlborough Blenheim adorned with sofa was the highlight of a trip to Atlantic City after EXPO 67.
People dressed better back then.

Looks like Easter Sunday, 1945. AC would always be jam packed on that day and it kicked off the beginning of the tourist season.

The city committed suicide once they tore down those beautiful old buildings.
What a time to celebrate! The war was almost over. The Great Depression was history. The post-war baby boom and prosperity were just around the corner. Happy days were indeed here again.

I dont know if i would call it classy. More like formal. Too formal fir spending long periods of time outside near sand. Plus its easter.
My one aunt would go to ac on vacation but I was to little to know we’re she stayed looks very nice at that time

Atlantic City officially fell into decline after WW2 due to an overall change in tourism. Affordable air travel to other destinations is only one reason why the city lost its allure. White wealth and privilege doesn't last forever and now in 2024, the city has about half of the population it used to have with a 3x to 4x the federal poverty rate and a majority third world population. Casinos are considered to be a so called "shadow government" with the politicians in the pockets of the casinos and plenty vacant lots due to land speculators.
We used to be such an amazing country... we are now a decrepit husk of what we were, a pathetic shadow of what we could have been...
We were never that great. Your priviledge forced you into a state of naivety. As you got older you realized, "Wow... so things arent as perfect as i was led to believe."
