Hey guys! I did camp America way back in 2017 and it was the best summer of my life! Yes it was tough, tears were shed on occasion, some days were longer than others, but the main point oin this video that resonated with me was that you and your fellow councillors really are a team and you can lean on each other in tough times. I have to say me and my two other bunk councillors were an absolute tag team! We all had our distinctive strengths and weaknesses and we knew when to step up and when we could rely on each other to step up. For example, I found I was really good with our kids at meal times, getting them organised, getting them to stay focuses, sit and eat their meals, and not to play with their food (kids were aged 4-7).One of my other co-councillors really struggled at this time so I knew I could step up and keep everybody in check. On the other hand, I really struggled with morning times, and getting the kids up and dressed, for some reason my patience was supper thin at that time in the mornings. My co-councilor was the best at mornings so she came through for us in the mornings. My other co-councilor was best in the evenings during shower hour and getting the kids ready for bed at night. She even formed a strict bedtime routine, pjs on by this time, all kids in bed by this time, 15 minutes of quiet reading /colouring before lights out at a set time. So we all knew our strengths and weaknesses and worked so well together as a team. Hope this helps!

i absolutely loved this video! this is my 3rd year as a camp counselor and you hit all the key points. another thing i want to add is that you will (hopefully not) have conflicts with some of the staff as some of them don't know how to communicate. it's important to keep your composure and talk things out like adults, otherwise it can take a toll on the rest of your camp experience. this happened to me last summer and i tried my hardest to stay out of unnecessary drama and succeeded. it's all a matter of maturity and clear communication!

Hi im glad I found your channel your videos are very helpful so thank you in advance. I have a question though since you have been doing this for so many years I wanna know what is the experience like as an older Councillor? I know you started young but the reason I'm asking is because I've never done camp before but finally plucked the courage and am going in 2025 whoop am excited just worried as I don't know what to expect as a slightly older first time Councillor (24 years).

Love this video!! I'm wanting to apply for 2025 but I'm worried that I won't be able to get the kids to listen to me and things like that. That's the only thing holding me back right now because I don't know if many 18 year olds do CA immediately. Is there any advice you can give?

I was 17 when I first went to camp as consellor (not in the US) and can guarantee the children will respect you for your posture, not your age. Act confidently (you're the authority after all) and you'll be fine
