Consolidation Colliery Gelsenkirchen | Excursion destinations

The Consolidation colliery, also known as "Consol", was a coal mine in Gelsenkirchen. Today the facilities are listed as historical monuments. As early as 1848, several boreholes were drilled in the Schalker Mark. In 1863, work began on sinking the Gertrud shaft at Schalker Markt. The colliery went into operation in 1865 and produced over 3 million tonnes of high-quality bituminous coal and gas coal.
