  • 'Today was the day I was supposed to post my Flashback 2 review, but instead of making my way out of the alien-infested jungle, I spent most of Thanksgiving trying to catch a turkey. So, with no review to post, what am I supposed to do now? I mean, I already posted a video looking at this week’s PlayStation Plus games, and you probably saw the newest Nintendo Switch Online Review Crew episode, so what’s left? Oh yeah, I guess I did hear about Konami releasing a Felix the Cat Collection on PlayStation 5, Switch and PC, so I guess we could talk about that. It will apparently feature both the Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System versions of Felix the Cat, which were released in the early 1990s. That’s cool news, I guess, but are either of these games actually worth playing? To answer that question, I decided to flip through the pages of Electronic Gaming Monthly, GamePro, Nintendo Power and more classic magazines to see what the critics said back when these games first came out. So, go and grab your bag of tricks, because this is yet another episode of Konami Review Crew.

    Limited Run has said they’ve tried to get access to the Tiny Toons games, but Warner Brothers hasn’t been forthcoming to-date.

      I hope they can work it out in the future. Warner Bros. needs the money right now.

      I've been wanting a Tiny Toon collection for ages and couldn't figure out why it hasn't appeared yet - there is at least 8-10 games from the 8/16 bit era they could include! Come on WB!

    I’m just glad Felix is getting some recognition after all these years, he was always better than Mickey

      In a world where Spider-man can explore his many variations through animation, it would be cool if somebody could create a Felix the Cat story that goes over his 100+ year history and influence. He's a great character.

    Major NES hidden gem that almost nobody talks about. It even has cutscenes LOL. Too easy for back then. But for the modern ADD crowd it should be a perfect fit. Doesn't overstay it's welcome.

    I had the NES game as a kid (along with the Tiny Toons game) and I actually really enjoyed it. It was a pretty solid platformer.

    I absolutely adore the NES Felix the Cat game, it's easily one of my favorite games for the platform and a very formative game for me: it was one of the first I ever owned!
    I always wanted to play the Game Boy version, I had that very issue of Nintendo Power with Mario and the Poison Mushroom on the cover and read through it back to front so many times. Needless to say, I am very excited for this collection.
    As for my own bag of tricks? I would probably pull out some kind of time delay mechanism, like the Time Chamber in Dragon Ball. There's so much I want to do and enjoy, if I could cram an extra year in there every couple weeks and really savor things without having to rush, that'd be pretty awesome

    Not a felix the cat fan but i'm a sucker for everything konami made during this era. Games were pretty awesome.
    QOTD, Out of my bag of tricks i'd pull out restarting servers having issues and having them boot up just fine with no issues. I'd use it at work all the time.

    To those talking about price, just give it a few months, it will be 5 bucks like the others regularly are.

      its 25 bucks. granted it is cheaper than the aftermarket prices i am still interested but 25 is way too much for an nes and gameboy game.

    QOTD; Sorry to Felix - I love the character and it has an amazing legacy - but I'd use the 'bag of tricks' to pull out some more meaningful Konami collections. You know, like Parodius, PlayStation Contras, PS2 Castlevanias, the Lords of Shadow saga or Antarctic Adventure. Just saying.

    I really liked both of these games. Great platforming, animation and music. But I'm a little confused here as Konami didn't make these games. Neither the NES or GB versions were developed or published by Konami. Hudson Soft published them and might have developed the Game Boy version but the NES version wasn't developed by either. Looking into it now looks like Konami owns Hudson Soft (I didn't know that) so I guess they can publish these games but they had nothing to do with making them. Just seems wrong to consider these Konami games.

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  6 місяців тому +2

      You're right that it's weird calling it a "Konami Collection," since Hudson made these games. However, as you pointed out, when Hudson went out of business, Konami bought them up. So, technically speaking, this is a Konami collection, even if it does feel a bit weird to say that. I went with "Konami Review Crew" because I felt like it would give me more options going forward than "Hudson Review Crew," since I suspect Konami will be more active at re-releasing games than Hudson. Either way, we probably shouldn't get hung up on the titling, because we're really here to celebrate these old games and reviews.

    I never knew Tim Curry from Rocky Horror was on the Supreme Court, but hey. 😉😂🤣 Yeah, I've heard of Felix the Cat, but this video is probably the most I've seen of his cartoons, unlike Tiny Toons which I'm more familiar with, so there we go, can agree, they should have gone with Tiny Toons. As for the question, let me put my pinky next to the side of my mouth, and in my best Dr. Evil impersonation say 1 hundred billion dollars. 😉😂🤣

    How did Konami have a string of great collections, and then charge the same amount for TWO games?

    • @tryffel8
      @tryffel8 5 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, and to be honest, more like one game. The Gameboy version is just the same game, but half as long. There is no point at all to play the gameboy version if you have the Nes game.

  • @jwrfb26
    @jwrfb26 6 місяців тому +2

    The point you are trying to make is: "Give me a Tiny Toons collection!" If you played the second one on NES, you might rethink that.
    As for today's question, I would pull out a Death Star and hold the Earth for ransom. "Stop making war, or I will just remove the problem."

  • @Specter227
    @Specter227 6 місяців тому +3

    You know, sometimes it's fine to release this kind of stuff on the NSO app instead of charging 15~30 bucks for a "collection" of two games (or just one, really).
