    Personally I love these Ozark trips. Everybody and there mother does Utah, Arizona, Colorado etc. And you see the same stuff just different people/rigs doing it. This is truly unique. The Ozarks also don't get the love like you were talking about NM. Done any trips in St. Francis National Forest? Good stuff!!

    I love the views of wheeling in the summer or fall but winter time is so much more comfortable to us, enjoying a fire while hanging out at camp, staying warm while cooking and heater for sleeping equals way more enjoyable than sweating your butt off anytime you’re out of the vehicle!

    Honestly, as of right now I go to my old stomping grounds, but I would absolutely love to go out and explore more. My issue with it is I enjoy doing it with others and we all take it in together and I don't have anyone to go out with. I've joined a few local overlanding Facebook groups so hopefully that will change in the very near future!

    When I bought my pick up I would go down country dirt roads to find where they led. But gas got high so I stopped going on adventures. But lately I have a need to get back out in nature to find where I fit and to find my joy again.
    I lost my mother to Covid vaccination so I feel lost. But I always felt very spiritual when I was out in nature exploring. As a kid we spent Sundays going in backroads of Arkansas. My dad is from the base of Mt. Magazine so he really had a lot available for fishing and hunting
    I live in NWA where there is a lot of natural beauty to find. Even though gas is expensive still little day trips aren’t so bad to do.
    So glad I found your channel to gleam info from.

    Old trails that you have traveled before are great to use when you want to plan something with others. Exploring new trails is what I love to do. Like you, it's the adventure of finding something better and new. That is why I am looking forward to retirement this March and hitting the trails back east. Living in AZ we don't have winter or spring time trees, the cacti look the same year round. I will be in your neck of the woods for at least a week or maybe 2. No schedule, timeframe or agenda ( except gathering the southeastern JBOH's) 🙌

    I love finding new places, but the old trails are like old friends, wonderful in the best way. I’m still new to being the driver, and new to my 2006 Tacoma, so I’m still doing easy trails when I’m out by myself. I’d love to do more winter exploring, but Northern California has a TON of snow right now, so I’ll have to wait. I see a diesel heater in my future!

  • @mattlewandowski73
    @mattlewandowski73 Рік тому

    Here in East Tennessee, I have been on "roads" where my Tacoma was getting scratched on both sides by the brush and branches. This is the reason I prefer a full front end brush bar on a bumper (preferably with brush cables), and running board style rock sliders (as opposed to the type that tuck tight against the rocker).

    The reason that most of the lakes/ponds are made it to provide water for the wildlife and to help provide emergency water for the tankers during a forest fire. this way they don't have to travel 100's of miles to the nearest runway just to load up with the much needed water.

But Matt, instead this weekend while my 05 LJ Rubi gets worked on I will look up some Forestry roads and BLM roads in this state and start my baby steps. If you have any quick tips to look up (I think you did a video on this back in the day) let me know.

  • @mattlewandowski73

    Yes Matt, rule one of going off roading is go with a friend, but if you have the right gear, self recovery is an option, and you DO have the ability to call backup in an emergency... So you do have your bases covered.
    IMO the order of importance on a 4by is armor, then recovery gear, then everything else.
    My current truck is not adequately equipped (budget has not yet allowed for proper skids and a winch yet) so alas I have to pick where I wheel much more carefully.
    As a guy who is fast approaching 50, you are dead on about what is important in life... work and making a living is important, but people need to remember to experience life while they can. too many people live their life just to make money and work work work til they retire then find they are gettin too old to do the things they should of done when they were younger.

    I think our exploring changes from our mood and time available. If we are short on time, then a familiar trail is good as it allows us to get there quickly and enjoy it with little effort. If time is no factor then exploring is the way to go! I agree with you concerning New Mexico. It is a FANTASTIC place to explore and the landscape differs so much depending on the regions that you visit. We are from NM and love the land of enchantment. We truly love our home in NW Arkansas, but we do laugh when folks talk about the mountains in the Natural State. Growing up in NM we know what a real mountain looks like. haha! Thanks for the great video. Be safe and enjoy the week.
