In this episode, we cross off another bucket list item and go hiking out onto Root Glacier.
Wrangell - St Elias National Park is not only the largest national park in the United States, it offers a rare opportunity to hike on a glacier. Root Glacier and Kennecott Glacier are both accessible, but an easier hike is to the Root Glacier.
It was an amazing day with a fun ending, as we join the pack rafters in McCarthy, for their opening kickoff to their annual pack rafting event.
We hope you enjoy coming along for the ride! Paul & Lorena

Thanks for showing us the glacier! I am one of those that wouldn't be able to make the hike due to arthritis so thanks!
So if you can get on a bus you can get to this place. And you walk on the ice .
You can take the bus to Kennecott, but the glacier is still a 1-2 mile hike to the glacier. And it isn't an easy one!
Amazing!! Those glaciers are beautiful.
Unbelievably beautiful glacier area.
WOW guys ...... And Paul, you did an AMAZING job on capturing the "detail: in all the shots .....
You all are so fortunate to have that experience !!! Truly mind shattering BEAUTY !!!!
Thanks Rick!
cool video alaska talk
Nice editing and mixing. Improving your game!
I was awed by the glacier!
Walking on a glacier looks so cool.
Just your typical average day...a picnic on a glacier. Ha! Ha! Awesome stuff! BTW, that was so cute when Ozzy reached out to Lorena. He definitely missed his mom! 😊
Not able so I do appreciate your adventures!! Keep it coming!
Ozzy seems like a sweet cat! Enjoyed the glaciers so beautiful !
Beautiful beyond words!
Awesome videos!!!!! Loved Kevin’s head wrap. Lol
Glad you decided to avoid the swim, it looked very cold.
Thank you for sharing.
Rick~
Tons of fun. Thanks for the post.
Love the video. We just sold our RV and really miss it. Keep the video's coming.
WOW WOW WOW Great video!! LOVED IT!!! THANKS
As always we really enjoyed this blog. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Sooooooo incredible.....! Thru your video I was able to experience your journey... thank you👍😻
That was awesome Paul but holy hell, why so close to the edge of the crevasse?? You could have slipped; the ice could have gave way. Can’t believe how warm it was there. I hope Kevin’s feet recovered quickly. An extra pair of socks would have been better than a bathing suit. LOL!
There is a TV show on Discovery about this town and it shows how the town was before the tourist boom. It’s called Edge of Alaska. I’ve been binge watching it and it’s really cool to see how the town has grown.
Incredible hike! Just delicious video. The audio of you crunching over the ice and waterfalls into crevices. I twice washed my hair in icy little streams that gave me an ice cream headache. Alberta and upper BC coast.
Thanks for showing.
Our pleasure!
LMAO! Kevin is freakin' hilarious!!
Thank you for the Blue Lagoon Sequel teaser. It's a dry cold, guys! Good times.
Reminds me of Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. How beautiful!
The glaciers are awesome. Today I got to visit a glacier with you guys.
Thru your travels I AM SEEING SO MUCH. GOD BLESS SAFE TRAVELS
Hi guys , Steve from Bobcaygeon Ontario. Looks like your having a great time. Keep up the good work!
Yep!! I have got to go there, Great video just absolutely beautiful, I can not wait.
Thank You. :)
Enjoyed the video and being able to see the Root Glacier. Looks like people up there in Alaska do have a lot of fun. Thanks, take care and be sate. From cloudy Spring, TX.
congratulation that was on the bucket list. My Mother went by bus. She talked about the size of the place and she had been to many many place and this was one of her favorites. Thanks for taking us and sharing.ByeBye
Some glaciers have cat tracks (?) You ride in like a bus.
beautiful video. Really enjoyed that. May never get to experience ourselves since my hubby has mobility issues but great that we can see thru you
Great video!
That glacier is amazing! You should use a telephoto lens or fly a drone over it rather than risking your life!
I don't think there were any life risking moments Julie. Can't fly the drone in a national park, unfortunately.
Totally amazing!!
Topless in Alaska, I'd like to see that :)
Lol!
Thanks for another great adventure.
The ad that came up before your video was McCarthy River Tours. Was that a coincidence? The mining town you walked through made me think of High Plains Drifter since all the buildings were painted red. LOL I cannot imagine what a special experience it was to hike out on that huge glacier. Thank you for sharing. I wonder how many folks got the Gene Simmons reference 😂🤣
Hey PH! The ad was definitely a coincidence...we have no control over those. It was a great experience! Safe travels!
Fun times on the glacier! Never got to McCarthy when we lived in Alaska. I don’t think that pedestrian bridge existed then...think there was a trolley cable pull system that was used to get over the river. Thanks for the beautiful views once again. 👍😃
There was a trolley cable system a while ago! Pretty crazy!
Thanks for the great views, fantastic as always! Planning on full timing in a few more years hope you’re still at it. Remember the melted ice is at least 33 degrees; not that cold ( but I am from western NY and am used to cold). Keep up the good work and safe travels.
Great vid. This is now on my bucket list. BTW, the "dirt" in front of the glacier you referred to is known as a glacial moraine. It is soil, rocks, and other debris that is pushed ahead of the glacier as it moves.
Yes, the moraine!
Good thing Paul and Keven didn't go for a dip in that Glaciar pool because they would have had to sit down to pee for a month. :) :)
LMAO!
Another great video. Also, I saw from KYD that you all met up while in Alaska.
Yes we did!
The time you spent on the glacier seemed magical. And was that a unicorn on Kevin’s head buff
Kevin likes unicorns and rainbows!
How cool is that????
Too cold for this Texas Ganny.
great video guys, thank you.
i think i would rope / snap link together walking on the glacier .... especially during July .... but you made it
no dip here but good move on your part
Good to see you guys with Keep your day dream, Less junk more journey?
Ran into KYD in Homer. Haven't been able to connect with Less Junk.

best thing to do is buy the cramp-ons on ebay $10 cost 25 to rent them lol
When you're already there E-Bay is not an option! Lol!
Dated yourself with the Gene Simmons relate...😂😂
Lol!
Shame you where in a no fly zone, national park as drone flight would have been really Awesome, as you say.
I REEEEALLY wanted to fly there! :(
Not easy being a vegan in AK huh?
What if you had to live in the bush?
It was easier finding food options, while eating out, than we originally thought. Living in the bush is definitely NOT something we plan on doing or would enjoy doing for any length of time. We're soft! Lol!
No dip = vaginal cavity. Just do it!!!
Hahahaha!
