This was very accurate. Great job. You actually explain it better than most film schools. Now, people should keep in mind, Film Producers and TV Producers are very different from each-other. Traditionally, TV producers act as the director on a set. Or "field-officer".
This is one of my many “where’s the horizon” moments. I’ve always wanted to write and direct movies as long as I can remember, but I’ve never thought it was possible, especially given the prestigious and overwhelming nature of Hollywood and the industry itself. Thanks for the run down, will help make things more manageable going forward.
Next on the difference between Director, cinematographer and Director of photography Who exactly to give credit or praise when you like visuals of a film
A few years ago, I listened to the audio commentary for a low-budget independent movie, which detailed how the producer hopped onto a red-eye flight to San Diego to meet with Sean Astin at Comic-Con at 2 a.m. because it was the only time the actor had available to take a meeting. The producer was there to pitch a different movie to Sean, but during the meeting they talked about other movies the producer was working on, and Sean ended up signing on for both the original movie pitched as well as the movie I was listening to the commentary for. That was when I started to understand exactly the type of stuff a producer has to do on a movie.
I love these little vids, very informative and to the point. Also, when a person asks a question, they can be refereed to this instead of retelling the answer over and over.
Great explanation! Unfortunately sometimes a producer can meddle too much and ruin projects by only making it in their vision and not trusting those they have hired.
There are times you see, Zack Snyder, as producer but you say "He had no involvement here", what does THAT mean? Did they use resources that he originally brought to the table? Is it by default since he might've been the reason for a certain element?(i.e. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, or Affleck as Batman) Is it contract negotiated and he gets these credits on this amount of movies?
succinct and informative! Thank you. I really enjoy your show and particularly your critical thinking abilities and the maturity in how you express yourself. Im a fellow canadian and die hard leafs fan (suffered many years until our little moment in the sun now, lol) and movie lover. Enjoy the playoffs and the summer blockbuster season!
This makes me want to re-watch season 4 of entourage for some reason 😂 Very informative and strait to the point!!! Next one should be "what a cinematographer does"
I thought Executive Producer was a fake title because it seems like it's always given to the star or stars of a show. I remember the opening of the series Bones always listed both leads (David Boreanz and Emily Deschenel) as Exec. Producers. I always assumed it was just a way to give them a few percentage points and jack up their pay. I seriously doubt either one of them were spending hours in the office going over budget spreadsheets each week!
Walt Disney and David O'Selzenick were two famous producers of Golden Age Hollywood. Jerry Bruckheimer and Joel Silver are two famous producers of Blockbuster Hollywood. Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy got lucky as producers because of the Steven Spielberg and George Lucas connections. Barbara De Fina got lucky as a producer because of the Martin Scorcese connection. Harvey Weinstein became the award winning predator producer.
Hello to anyone who can help. I am a newly 21 year old, having this filmmaking pursuit since age 15. So I've kinda forced myself into having to literally do everything while creating a short, feature or series. I really want to know more so about each requirements other than having to act, write, direct a film. You know the more legal and payment side of things that Google can't really explainproperly. I've got my ideas, a cellphone, a ring light and my mom's house, my home lol, and no money. Not asking for any money or equipment or pity. Just would really like some simple answers for my high school dropout ass 😅to understand basically the legal rules/requirements for a self created production company. -Thank you.
Great, short, informative
This video clip, or John himself?! 🤣

Great video John, it would be nice if you'll make a follow up video about TV producers and show runners
I can finally stop acting like I know what a producer is during my film convos.

What was the movie?
John keep making these. They're very informative and entertaining. Love hearing you explain things like this.
I love these little vids, very informative and to the point. Also, when a person asks a question, they can be refereed to this instead of retelling the answer over and over.
Great explanation. Always wondered about some of these roles and titles…especially the p.g.a mark
Great mini video. I feel as if you could do a lengthier part 2 version of this with Rob elaborating more.

probably by contract since he kickstarted the dceu in his own image, so others have to follow

I really I appreciate these kind of videos John!
Great job. Being an associate producer on a short and feature really helped me learn a lot about filmmaking.
Great new series
This makes me want to re-watch season 4 of entourage for some reason 😂
Very informative and strait to the point!!!
Next one should be "what a cinematographer does"
Organizing the budget and cast/crew are the key tasks imo.
Thanks John 💜
Thank you, I've been wondering about these things for years.
I like this segment a lot
Producer. Producer. Producer. ❤️🎬🎥🏆🏆🏆
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very useful video. Thanks!
Great video, Informative
This is gold! Thank you
Thank you for explaining it l can understand is very important job
Been wondering about this for a very long time
More of these!!!
John Campea p.g.a. , once again with great informative, video content, 👌👏
Comment more for the algorithm.
And keep doing these type of videos. Inform the people.
Love this Campea Classroom
Very insightful!💯💯🙏🙏

“Or at least, in theory!” Only industry insiders know how true that is! 🤣
So when a producer doesn't do their work, do they leave it to the director/other producers?
In the commentary for the first John Wick, the director said Eva Longoria got an executive producer credit just for cutting them a check.
Nice job! Hey wait a minute, I thought a producer was an organism that serves as a source of food for other organisms in a food chain?

You gotta be one very ambitious and hard working individual to fill the role of a Producer. It's literally only for the Strong.
I still have one question though. If I want to become a producer, how would I do that?
Will there be a quiz to this Professor Campea?
I’ve always wondered this
how can you send in your movie script to a producer or company
The simple answer is "you can't"

Why Brad Pitt didn't won an Oscar for Best Picture in The Departed?
I would guess because he wasn't in the movie
That why Tom Cruise got a adward
