MY PERSONAL OPINION: Where is the Best Place to Live in the Philippines?

  • Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
  • Where is the best place to live or retire to in the Philippines? I read this question a lot online, particularly on FB. And I don’t spend much time on Facebook, but every time I look, another person has posted the same question, with commenters putting in their dollar’s worth with where they live whilst others are saying I’m not telling you, this place is perfect and I don’t need it to be overrun with annoying expats thanks very much.
    I’ve spent almost 4 years living in the Philippines, have visited the majority of major cities, plus a handful of smaller islands and beach areas, so I’ve built up a pretty good picture of what different places offer. Which ever place I’ve visited in the Philippines, I’d always think - Could I live Here? And whether the place fulfills all my requirements…… such as Alfresco bars/diners, parks, open spaces. Is it safe? Easily walkable? Not too polluted, dirty or busy with traffic? Is an Airport close? How is the public transportation? Are there condos on offer at around $300 per month that come with pool and decent gym? The proximity to a good Beach. That doesn’t consist of volcanic black sand.
    Firstly you need to decide whether you’re a city or provincial person. Whilst researching online you’ll hear the same ideal places to live mentioned over again such as CEBU, BOHOL, CDO, DAVAO, DUMAGUETE, BACOLOD, ILOILO, BORACAY, CAMIGUIN and MANILA.
    Philippines has over 7,000 islands. Do you like a big Asian city such as Cebu city rather than the province? Which are the Best Islands or Cities to Live? Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food, scenery, long visas entice foreigners to live in the Philippines. Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends, but so last century. When you're there you feel like you're stuck in an 80s/90s time warp with the old skool music blaring out and the outdated infrastructure.

    Phillip, I liked how you spent the time specifying what You like so people can understand your bias. Yep, your a Bigg City Boy who likes the beach. Having lived in Florida the last 35 years I can appreciate that. I never live more than 30 minutes from a nice beach. However for the sake of the rest of your viewers I think it's unfortunate that you don't understand Dumaguete. If you were Scooter capable you would find within 20 minutes:1. beaches that also have Great Shore Dives, 2. Valencia at elevation with cool breezes and modest Fresco style dinning around the central park, 3. Tons of Nature Hikes in the hills- most have spectacular waterfalls to bout. 4. Modest malls (adequate but nothing great) 5. Tons of Western style dining options, 6. Of course the downtown Boardwalk which is always best visited in the evening when it really comes to life. But You like the BIGG City, and Duma is a Small City... that's cool. Enjoy Manila. Peace and Love, B Goat

      💯% agree ! Though I watch his video from time to time his big British ego let him believe that HE is THE ultimate reference of what is good and not good ! There is something so childish in that 60+ years old guy that it's almost laughable.

      @@didierdenice7456 I don't think he was trying to suggest her was the "ultimate" reference, he was clear to state his preferences up front... that's what I liked about the video. It just that he keeps ripping on Dumaguete BUT he is soley dependent on public style of transportation, while probably over 90% of the Expats who do love the place all have Scooters or cars. He doesn't enjoy the place because he doesn't know it like everyone else - who are all mobile - IMO

The start is the best as you explain what your criteria and perspective would come from for reference. • @BiggWorldCinema
      @BiggWorldCinema  Місяць тому +2

      I'm not confusing them. Obviously. Staying for a fortnight gives you an idea if a place is a good fit for you. Other places you can tell within a few days. Where do you stay, sorry "live?"

    • @JodyForbes
      @JodyForbes Місяць тому

      @@BiggWorldCinema I agree with you. As you get older and you've been around the traps a bit, if you traverse a city a bit day and night over a few weeks, you can get get a boots on the ground feel for what it offers in terms of infrastructure, services , culture and attractions.
      The people that get stung and make knee jerk decisions are those that go somewhere on holiday, have a roaring good time because there already on that natural holiday high amongst others that are in "relaxed mode ". They then extrapolate that experience into believing the environment they were in was responsible for it. Then they make the decision to move and find out you can go back to the place, but you can't go back to the time and it usually ends up worse than the grind they left for the greener pasture.

    If a picture says a thousand words, the photos you have shared with Canadians like me in this video about ILOILO CITY looks inviting. They show us a clean, vibrant and beautiful city. The Iloilo City river Esplanade looks captivating, and you seemed to enjoy talking to that lovely food vendor. The city centre of Iloilo City, which you whine that the city is bereft of, is actually called Calle Real, containing a collection of old buildings when it was formerly known as and probably will be, "the Queen City of the South" again with a plethora of all those art deco, Spanish Gothic & pre-war American colonial era architecture.

    Baguio is very scenic, but ridiculously hilly with a pleasant, cooler climate. I adored Palawan 24 years ago. I've recently returned to Mindoro after a 14 year absence and stayed with retired pal from my home city in the UK in the town of Bayan, which is 10 mins drive away from Puerto Galera and Sabang. I quite like the place and was surprised that you dismissed it. Boracay is life on repeat after 5-6 nights there and Angelese City is no longer for me. I've not been to Cebu in 14 years and I'm aware a lot has changed there, but I didn't thoroughly rate it. I'd like to try Bohol in the future, as I've heard only good reports regarding locals and pricing.

    I spent much time there in the 80's and Manila was the place for me. Puerto Galera was real nice back then, for weekly trips out of town.
    On an earlier video of yours, I saw what has become of that area, and I was shocked. Sabang no longer has a beach, let alone a nice clean one, which it had before. Alongapo was also nice. You actually got a numbered seat on the bus from Manila, and the town was very clean, due to the US base, and an educated work force due to the military. After Mount Pinatubo, the area went into decline a little, but recovered, and was a favorite of mine.

I live today in Seychelles on La Digue Island 15 square miles with nothing much that a few shops,, a hospital, police station and few cars. Not even a night club, plenty of touristic accommodation and very expensive to live here. One of the most beautiful island for many people. My life is sad as I do not like the beach and the sea. I am 54 years old and have not swam in the sea for more than 20 years, not been to the beach for the last 6 years. I can even walk 5 minutes to one of the best in the world. I just do not like the beach life but have no choice. One day I have enough to move out of this island I will do it at the first opportunity. You can find places there - e.g. Parañaque, combining price and places to go and things to do within a 30 mins radius. Of other places outside of the capital region there is Bicol. Have you been there? Bicol is attractive if you consider price, nature, and beaches, and it still has a central location in the Philippines.

    It seems you never been in Marikina City and Pasig City.
    Marikina is one of the cleanest city in the Philippines with nice parks and eating places, malls etc. What good about it it is in Metro Manila.
    Pasig City is one of the safest and home to Ortigas Center, the rival of Makati. Tons of good restaurants, malls, parks etc. Both are best alternatives of BGC, Makati and Quezon City.

    If you are over 60, cities in any country suck. As for Manila and Cebu, there is the added bonus of heavy traffic and Jeepney exhausts. Both Mindoro and Bohol are awesome for a retiree. Haven't been to Palawan and Negros. So, cannot comment on those.

    I agree, the city which offers the most, good and bad, is probably Manila. Good hospitals, most variety of stores and restaurants, most entertainment options, transportation options, and major airport. Not so good things: higher costs in some areas, more crime, more foreigners, more traffic, more homeless people, ugly beaches.

      Get out of Manila and adventure down south or North of Manila

      Lapu Lapu Mactan island in Cebu is my choice.
      I’m renting for fourth year now a 3 bedroom 2 car covered ports in a gated subdivision a bungalow house, I never heard a single rooster or any neighbors do karaoke in my stay here. We are 10 minutes from white sand beach and about 20-30 minutes from all big malls in cebu like SM Seaside, SM Cebu, Ayala, ParkMall etc.
      my rent is 18k plus 1500 for security, garbage and water per month all and all with electric and Fiber Internet 400Mbps my total per month is just about 30k.
      I’ve visited many other places in my five years living in Philippines and the only other place I would consider moving to is Dumagete but house rental there for same house what I have here is at list 10k pesos more per month.
      I did experience living in BGC in Manila in 2019 for 6 month and due to pollution, traffic and luck of nearby beaches was deal breaker for me living in Manila.
      I think every expat need to experience for him self where he will choose to live instead of just listening others, it’s my personal recommendation.
      Thanks for your video mate, I’m your new subscriber.

    The problem with Philippines is all places are devoid of infrastructure like clean toilet or nice parks, nice restaurants. No matter how much money you have, you will not escape the stinging third world experiences in Philippines, like nearly rotten food from expensive restaurants. Say you want to swim, you cannot find premium pools without many people. If you don't have a Filipino wife already, it makes more sense to live in Thailand where at least you can hav some decent food.

Clark is great for activities, new cycling track and picnic areas around parade grounds. Many other restaurants around walking street, thai, Mexican, korean food. Many golf courses also. Great expat scene with hash house loads activities. Try malabanas area Phil.. totally cool and Filipino neighbors with carenderias, night markets.
