      Stop talking nonsense Turkey is trying to use this to get what it wants...Turkey feels that if it holds out that the U.S. will sell them the F16's they want to buy but I guess they didn't learn their lesson like when they wanted to force the U.S. to sell them F35's so they went and buy Russian s300 missiles they didn't get the F35's and the US stop selling them engines for their LAH Turkey can say thank God for this Russian invasion because it got them out of the doghouse with the U.S. now they are back with their BS....when you want to walk in the middle of the road you will get hit by a car eventually....

    • @timonsolus

      More accurately, the Turkish Straights are controlled and managed by Turkey. No warships can enter the Black Sea from the Mediterranean (and vice versa) without Turkish cooperation.

    • @josephcernansky1794
      @josephcernansky1794 2 роки тому +7

      NO....Turkey does NOT own or control the Black Sea...Just the zone of its coastline AND the Straits that CONTROL entry into and out of the Black Sea.....
      If Ukraine's big shipyard builds a dozen aircraft carriers...Turkey by treaty during time of war may NOT allow them to transit Turkey's Straits...BUT only during time of war.......
      Putin would argue it's not a war, just a special military operations to reduce Russian stockpiles of air, land and naval equipment! LOL

    • @JFHeroux
      @JFHeroux 2 роки тому +13

      It's much more complicated than that. The Bosporus strait is inside of Turkey's territory, BUT... the Montreux treaty gives ANY COUNTRY's ship the right to traverse the strait at any time, as long as it's a civilian vessel. Turkey on the other hand can control the movement of military assets. It has always blocked any ships from Black Sea countries at war from each other to cross the strait though. This means that as soon as Russia invaded Ukraine, Turkey closed the strait to all military vessels from both countries. Also, Turkey has always chosen to not let military vessels from countries who do not have a Black Sea port from passing through the strait. This means that most ships present there are (of course) Russian.
      But Turkey is under increasing pressure from the West to let their own ships enter the Black Sea as well... and under international law, they can choose to do so. The US and the UK have been wanting to enter the sea with their own flotillas but for now, Turkey is too afraid of the consequences.

    • @princedukenkanteen2636
      @princedukenkanteen2636 2 роки тому +1

    • @JFHeroux
      @JFHeroux 2 роки тому

      @@princedukenkanteen2636 LOL That's not how the strait is managed at all. You know there's a Wikipedia page for that if you want to know more. But basically, the Turks are indeed blocking passage of your ships as we speak. As they are the international fleet. And you should be glad they are doing that. Because if they let all the military vessels come into the black see, how do you think the small Russian navy would fare against a coalition of tens of countries? Remind me, just to be sure: How many operational nuclear carriers does Russia have right now? Oh wait, sorry... that sole carrier caught fire (like your ship) and will never be completed! LMAO
      The Russian military is such a joke. Only nuclear weapons can save it from complete irrelevance. And things will only get worst in the coming years. And that's a relief after all the trouble, the deaths and suffering Russia caused during then last century. My only regret is that we supported the Soviets with lend-lease during WWII. We should have left them fend for themselves while we marched on to Berlin. Maybe they would have never have enslaved half of Europe then... and would have remained this remote country it is now, with only oil and gas to keep it afloat. Oh well, enjoy your remaining delusions while they last... the fall will be hard. LMAO - SLAVA UKRAYINY

    Turkey can and must deny access to warships not already in the Black Sea and present a proposal to the UN that military vessels already there must only be used for safety and humanitarian purposes until there is a full and binding accord between current belligerents.
    The US proposal to have fleet exercises in the Black Sea when none was planned is provocative and cannot be said to be supporting assets and interests in the region. It would be for the purposes of political projection only and mainly to garner votes in the USA after the humiliation of the Afghan debacle.
    The Turkish navy is a large one with an unusually wide variety of vessels which could act in foreseeable developments short of a direct NATO--Russia war.

    @mcguerd8 2 роки тому +20

    The Montreux convention is a solid example of rules-based international order. It guarantees complete freedom of navigation for all civilian vessels during peacetime while recognizing Turkey's sovereignty. Turkey has the right to restrict the passage of navies not belonging to Black Sea states. There have been only two attempts, both turned away by Turkey, to overrule this. The first one came from Nazi Germany in WW2 and the second one from Nato today. What the hell is Nato and its boss trying to do while the world has already seen what Nazis did in WW2?

    IMO the current interpretation and implementation of Turkey's control of the Dardanelles and Bosporus straits is reasonable, as long as NATO has ample coverage by air. The current Turkish policy traps the Russian Black Sea fleet in the Black Sea and prevents reinforcements from the Russian North Sea fleet which is no small thing. The Russian Black Sea fleet is considered the heart of the Russian navy, and restricting its operation to only the Black Sea and not the Mediterranean and beyond is significant. Also, in response to events like the Moskva sinking, no ships can be brought to the area as replacements or reinforcements.
    The fact that no NATO ships are in the Black Sea is no one's fault but NATO's. NATO chose to not station any ships in the Black Sea and evacuated just prior to hostilities, and probably at least in part because AFAIK no ports exist in the Black Sea that can support NATO ships. NATO will just need to be satisfied with air surveillance and target designation which can be effective but perhaps not as symbolic as naval ships.

    • @arifaril8707

      NATO could possibly request Turkey to build and operate on a leasing- basis a naval port at northern Anatolian coast to engage hostile Putong's naval ships, letting Ukraine drones and fast naval boats seeking & bombing any Putong's boats in southern portion of the Black Sea....
      Likewise serious options shd be carried out to establish alternative naval ports along Bulgarian and Romanian coastlines to help Ukrainian naval fleet sending missiles and drones against notorious Putong's naval fleet....!!

    Having NATO establish a permanent naval contingent in the black sea constitutes a dramatic departure on the organization’s defense posture, and it is not a good idea. Why is the US/NATO looking to pick a fight with the Russian fleet of the black sea? This constitutes a reckless escalatory move and it does not necessarily contributes to the Ukrainian defense effort. NATO has historically been content with having the Russian fleet boxed into the black sea. Keep it that way.

    • @mushtaqbhat1895
      @mushtaqbhat1895 2 роки тому +7

      Agree, it is reckless and does not contribute directly to the cause.
      The best bet is of course to let the Ukrainians do the job, of reclaiming their sea ports and keeping Odessa safe. Everything else is nothing short of letting things go out of control.
      Actually the concilatory policy of Turkey toward Russia may be a historical blessing in disguise that acts as a moderating influence and as so far proven good and not escalatory.

      Turkey has made it clear for a long time that NATO membership is mostly a matter of convenience so has often not behaved like a normal NATO member... Like purchasing and deploying Russian S-400 air defense and determining its own policy in Syria. Turkey exploits its own strategic position in the Middle East and imagines itself as a kingpin of where the East meets the West and NATO's interests are somewhere lower in the list of priorities. And, Turkey's leadership is fundamentally different than almost all other NATO countries, it's ruled as an autocracy like Russia and China and not as a liberal democracy that encourages diverse views and more than one political party of approximately equal strength.

    Hey, it is time for Greece and Bulgaria to construct a channel linking the Black Sea to the Agean Sea bypassing Istanbul. NATO countries can finance the project and levy cargo ships using the channel. Using conveyor belts and explosives the rubbles can be used to reclaim part of the black sea and Agean Sea. Such construction can create jobs in Greece and Bulgaria where unemployment is high. Reclaiming lands in the Black Sea in Bulgaria to create tourist resorts competing with Turkey. New opportunities will develop in these two poorer NATO countries. Such moves will also create better security to NATO's southern regions, the Black Sea and maintain economic balance. To speed up the channeling, digging can be done at ten different locations simultaneously. Alternatively, they can burrow tunnels through mountains and maybe create safe harbors.

    • @madoldmanyelling6420

      How many countries would benefit from this canal you're proposing? Maybe Romania, Bulgaria and who else? How much should Greece charge for ships that will eventually use it? Not feasible, but anyways, if it does happen Turkey would leave NATO and allie with Russia, and on the long run things will get worst, not better.
