      Also, you never hear about those times when things are sent in writing and nothing bad happens.
      I've been "working" as a Union representative for 15 years and I constantly tell the members to try to keep the conversation in email.
      Which they, for the most part, manage.
      For the most part its unneeded. In fact, I can't remember a single time I have had use of email. Most bosses (where I worked. We have over 200 bosses of various level in our organisation of 7500 employees) admits to what they've actually done.
      But... Plenty of employees should try to keep their papertrail to a minimum :p
      If Im any judge, the employees has a far higher chance of being in the wrong then the bosses. Its ofc a numbers game. 7500 ppl are liklier to make misstakes then 200... But also bosses (both bad and good ones) are both trained and have various level of experience to avoid trouble.
      Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bad bosses, but that is mostly because there a 10th or even 100s of millions of bosses on this planet :p
      Most bosses are decent (or better) at their job.

      Sometimes, yes.
      I was a regular at the IT Office - their rule was - no ticket, no work.
      But I was going there first, said, yeah, before I create the ticket I want to know if it is even possible, if there is some better way, and just looking for input first.
      THEN I will create the ticket, with all the details, so we have the paper trail.

    ERP Story: If I were in OP's shoes, when VP first came to me to ask me to resume fixing the ERP system, I'd have Politely said "You were paying the ERP Consultants $5,000.00 per month and getting horrible service for it. I'm willing to resume fixing the ERP system for a $1,000.00 per month Raise and I'll give to the same fast, quality Service I was giving you previously. That seems like it's a considerable bargain for the Company don't you?"
    Hopefully, the VP would see the benefit and be willing to pay the extra grand a month for quality ERP service and chock it up as a 4 grand per month savings instead of a 1 grand per month loss...

      Why does the company use an ERP that requires paying huge amounts to consultants in order for it to work adequately? I don't know anything about such systems, but it seems like a waste of money. Is there no better product out there? Is this industry standard, or was someone just spending dollars to chase pennies?

    • @paperip1996
      @paperip1996 2 місяці тому

      @freethebirds3578 working for a company in a similar situation, for us, it's because the company began using a specialized software when it was new, growing, and the leadership was too inexperienced to understand exactly what they needed to get out of it. 20 something years later, that software is so ingrained into how we operate that when they decided to switch to a new process, it's taken 2+ years & hundreds of thousands of dollars transferring databases, staff trainings, determining impact to customers, customization to interact with a proprietary software, testing & debugging that integration, etc.
      It'll save money in the long run, but it's definitely not a simple task to make big changes that impact the basic job functionality of a few thousand people across five countries.

    • @Sanquinity
      @Sanquinity Місяць тому

      @freethebirds3578 companies deal with so many different salaries and orders and the like that you can really only do it efficiently with a computer program these days. But companies don't have the time or money to develop a program themselves. So they can only rely on a company specifically making and running such a program. Giving those tech companies quite a bit of power over how they run and maintain said program.
      So yea companies are kinda stuck with this stuff unless they can find and hire a good and likely expensive IT guy who can fix the common problems immediately.
      And you probably already know how companies feel about IT people. "Unimportant and lazy until shit hits the fan and the IT guy has to single handedly save the entire company."

    How can these people be in management? You want to update the employees contract with their new responsibilities and a little bit of a raise... if they ask you are not going to like the raise they ask for so it is best for management to do it first.
    This way you can control the raise and make them officially responsible for it.
    You are already saving money not having to pay the contractors as long as the raise is lower it is still a win for the business no need to be unreasonable.

    The first story shows bad management. The solution in the real world for the missing payroll would be to simply pay everyone based on their previous paychecks and fix it later. Companirs have a legal obligation to pay workers (in most countries, anyway). These problems should have been escalated much earlier to higher management, not just on emails.

    Teacher Pay: I admit that I'm tired of the uncritical worship of teachers. All three of my kids are now out of high school. I'm completely that by the time your child graduates high school, if you don't know at least two teachers that should be fired and prevented from being around children ever again then you haven't been paying attention. The local high school has 4 math teachers. I would gladly double the salaries of two of them if you fire with prejudice the other two.

      I think charter schools should be brought back.
      It used to be that you could send your kid to whatever school you wanted in the state and the government money went with them. This would mean good schools with good teachers would get more and awful schools and poor teachers would lose government money when kids were pulled and sent to another school.

      And the last one was just overly strict, mean, and nasty, even when she had no reason to be. Like, we're working ahead in the book and helping each other, even keeping to a low volume, and it get scorned for "distracting the class."

      @@caseyp3447 that means poor students that can't transfer are screwed.
      Right now school funding is tied to property taxes in the US. I suggest maybe that we should make the school funding a statewide thing and average it out, to stop wealthy neighborhoods from getting way more money while poorer neighborhoods have to sometimes scrape by with unsafe buildings and not enough money to pay teachers, because as it is right now, you get the better education if you're wealthy, and that just shouldn't be how public schools should be.

      @@Avrysatos On paper, this sounds reasonable. There are two issues (which probably can be worked around):
      1. Teachers in "high rent" districts probably need higher salaries to afford to live near work.
      2. Studies (from the 90s?) showed that spending did not equate to student success. The biggest determinant factor, more than social-economic class, race, districting, funding,or any other factor, was the amount of television consumed by the student. These days you can probably substitute in social media as well.
