Make sure nothing comes off when you scratch the rock with a knife., like powder or sand, and make sure that they don't start bubbling, even just a little, when you put an acid on it, like lemon juice, vinegar, or muriatic acid (for cleaning pools). Those that scratch or bubble like this will crumble or dissolve in your aquarium, and adversely affect your water chemistry. Enjoy your fish!
