Seeing that this was her first performance after a near-death experience from an overdose, singing/reliving that extremely dark moment in her life, as well as it being the literal Grammy's live. It would be a raw, emotional moment for her. So props to her for freely showing her emotions but keeping them enough at bay to sing/perform through it.

@@sandranejman I saw this when she did it live and I was just a mess...I don't think there's one person who can't relate to this emotion and people might want to criticize her for stuff ...which we all make mistakes...but the story behind this and ....it's still hard to listen too but the most relatable moment and song I have never seen
She sang this literally one month after my brother passed from a drug od. It was a very felt emotion for me. I broke down. It’s a powerful song.

The fact that she needed to restart and did so successfully without affecting the rest of her performance really did make my respect for her as a performer shoot up. I already had a lot of respect for her as a person and as a musician and singer, but her recovery was super impressive. I'm a music major right now, so a big part of my degree is performing in small and large groups, as well as performing solos, and I know exactly how horrible trying to recover from something like that can be even in front of a small group.
She wrote this 4 days before her overdose in 2018. This was her first performance after the overdose, so it was very emotional for her. She took that year in a half away from the public to focus on herself and her music and it was the best thing for her. Her voice is better than ever, and this album is truly beautiful.

It is. She mentioned in many interviews that she didn't want a refined studio version of this song because she wanted the emotion to be authentic at the time she first recorded it. We lovatics all know, she's a perfectionist in the studio, so that was new for her. Kuddos to her ❤️🙌🏾
