trouble is that it takes a lot of explaining to people that they are not watching a cartoon video made to go with the music but they are actually watching the music itself. it goes over most people's heads, particularly those who had bad maths teachers in early life and never learnt to appreciate the beauty of mathematics.
i got an idea. in hardmode. if you go all the way up and touch the top of the world. your gravity will flip and you will go on another planet. (a moon or something) with this song playing. and aliens. possibly an alien npc. but when your'e on the moon you will start to lose your breath meter (as if you were drowning) and you need to craft a space helmet or a potion. moon rocks (tiles that make up the planet) might have the tooltip "Ground up moon rocks are pure poison!" (refrence to Portal 2) this probably wont happen in the main game tho. because 1.4 is the final major update and a new biome is pretty major. maybe some mod developer will read this and try it! Don't forget to give credits to C. Allen though.
@@ChrisAllenMusic one other thing. I also told a youtube staff this. They see it as a bug because this is categorized as music, however none of your videos are able to be searched for by YT music, but I also want to make you aware. this is great! i kinda like how breakneck the visuals are, especially at 60. you can just about process what flashed up on the screen and it's pretty captivating. i feel like you could use this for creating tension and release
Thanks! Definitely been experimenting with ways to give motion / energy to the OsciStudio visuals.. chopping the visuals / audio sort of like a movie trailer / montage with just enough clarity to keep the viewer engaged. Glad it connected!
@@ChrisAllenMusic i would advise you to tone it down though, it gets exhausting. it is necessary in moments that need tension, but you've got really intense choruses
Horrifying, but so cool... So cool as the chills running down my spine. Also, I can't belive how I handled this one year ago where I watched this for the first time.
Great work! That's 60 FPS. Human eye handles up to 200-300 FPS. (According to TechQuickie) But who can beat the refresh rate of audio! From the beginning it is increasing from 4000 to 384000 Hz and up and up!
@@ChrisAllenMusic Hahah, I would never claim others' work as my own. I was just curious about usage terms, and knowing remixing is okay with credit is cool too, though my musical talent is a lot less than I wish it was lol
If you want to PLAY this song, just download the free hd .wav file, then send out to X and Y on your scope (needs to be clean signal, be sure to remove any bass boost or whatever, and ideally a good audio interface. Also, if your scope is DIGITAL, it won't look as good as an older analog scope, as the digital scopes tend to draw equal brightness lines between all sampled points, where analog scopes have nice bright/dim gradients depending on dwell time. If you want to MAKE a song like this, check out my tutorials on the basics, and fire up Blender and oscistudio! :D
Many thanks for the reply! I look forward to experimenting - I'm aware of the drawbacks of digital vs analog, I'm hoping to try overcome them but we shall see. An analog scope joining thus one isn't beyond the realms of probability depending on how it turns out 😁👌🏼 I'll be sure to check out your work, truly fascinating that you've achieved not only good looking but also great sounding music! 👍🏼
Probably could do a version of it, but that audio is VERY clean, and and might be hard to emulate with the Osc Studio methods. Cool idea, though, I'm hoping to do some more vintage videogame inspired stuff
But it doesn't run well in my China-made 80s electron tube student oscilloscope(even I can't found any visual-able shapes)…… Might it's resolution of signal is too low.
Sorry it's not working for you. This video was from a DC-coupled 96K sample rate audio feed. If you're using my HD file, but connecting to scope via a standard computer audio, you're probably only getting about 1/2 the sample rate and not DC coupled.
I get frequencies and things make the picture, but how do you make it play that image? Do you draw it on the oscilloscope and then just let it play, that frequency? I seriously cant start deducing how this is made.
The left and right stereo channel work together to draw the image, X-Y, like an etch-a-sketch. The drawing repeats at high frequency, making musical notes that I put together to make a song.
Good work, as always! If you need any vintage analog scopes to try and make your music working well on, just give me a shout. I have a Tek 2213 and a 96kHz/24-bit DAC. I tried a few of your other songs on that scope, and sadly the image is nowhere as pretty as your digital emulation, just because of ringing and the fact i haven't modded my DAC to remove the AC coupling.
thank you! I've actually got a couple of old scopes (BK Precision 1479A and an old weatherized USM 338) but I don't have a quiet space so it's hard for me to set up and record from those on a regular basis. My DAC is 96K, and DC coupled, which definitely helps on getting crisp visuals
@@ChrisAllenMusic you don't have a quiet space to record? As in loud or just busy? You can always set up in a closet and overdub the audio in post haha
Imagine if you could modify your brain so that you could listen to this music and see the images in your head! Of course, that's pretty much impossible, but it's fun to think about. I mean, it's not *physically* impossible, it's just vanishingly unlikely that any being (even a non-human) would have evolved with a visual system that can interpret Lissajous figures from audio data because there probably isn't anything on any planet in the universe that creates two-axis Lissajous figures naturally. Then again... who can know for sure?
In all possible universes, there is definitely a cluster where this (visualizing audio streams) is the main mode of communication. In those universes, I am their Emperor.
Yes, it’s one of them. The others are: Bone conduction headphones (The lack of bone conduction is why you always sound so weird on video. Your voice is vibrating your bones, making it sound more resonant. That’s why you sound a lot worse on video.) And cochlear implants (These work by sending signals directly to your auditory nerve. I don’t really know how they work, because I just have hearing aids.) Or, the worst one of all: UA-cam subtitles. [Music] sure does tell you a ton about the music!
You could try to buy a camera capable of recording in Full HD 60fps, and use a real scope to record it (maybe a Tektronix 5103N, the same scope Jerobeam Fenderson uses)
There has to be a way to market this. I listen to this stuff without the visuals, it's that good. You are a genius, and the world needs to know.
Kind words, indeed! I've already got a day job, just spread the word and those that need to know, will. :)
