IDK gals! I think Ikea is gunna be a 5/10 for me and its quite overrated! Great for getting staples but definitely not for making your house a HOME! And thats my little opinion that no one asked for!

I dont necessarily like the style of the furniture in ikea, but i absolutely love the layout and could stay there for hours, just wandering around. I've loved Ikea since I was a little kid, and the FOOD OMG. It's a great store if its your style, and its just the right amount of whelming for me. I could see why some people dont like it, but for me, I get the hype ngl

Haha! As a Swede, I have to say that your thoughts of Ikea matches our general feeling of Ikea. Ikea is great - if you know what you want. An unplanned visit to Ikea is sooo exhausting! The food is bland and mediocre but Ikea is massive, so unless you brought something like a banana or a smoothie to keep you going - you're gonna need the cafeteria to survive! Love your vlogs btw!

I agree. Always check the online catalogue first and go tunnel vision style for those items only when you visit the warehouse. In Denmark we have a thing called "the IKEA test". If as a couple you survive a visit to IKEA, your relationship will probably make it 🙂

I'm from Berlin, Germany, born in 1992 and as a single parent my mother never had the luxury to shop expensive high quality furniture, so we've been IKEA customers since I can think and LET me tell you: at least in Germany IKEA changed a lot in the past three to four decades. It used to be good quality with clever and beautiful designs for SMALL money. First the quality began sinking and then the prices began rising and it's just not really worth it anymore sadly (although the designs are still intriguing sometimes). Same goes for the clothing store H&M (incidentally also originally swedish). To THIS day I own clothing items from H&M bought by my mum in the 90ies that I can still wear. It was just better quality back then...I sound like a grumpy granny, but it's true though 😅😭 What I'd like to know as a German: what "hype" are y'all talking about regarding IKEA? Are US Americans seeing IKEA as something special at the moment? Is it new in the states? LOL so weird as a European to hear that anyone would be hyped about IKEA. So normal to us.
Great video, Daniel! Much love from Berlin ❤
Edit: Of course we also thrifted a lot, IKEA is not the only cost-saving option :)

You're so adorable - giving us a tour of Ikea, as if none of us have been there before - so sweet!
And yes Ikea is a life saver for your first apartment or home, especially w/ young kids. We started buying the cheapest sofas because our kids would ruin them. Once they got older & we could finally splurge on a quality sofa, was at the same time that we adopted our first dogs who promptly ate off all the corners of the gorgeous new sofa - oh, good times..

Plus, I also love you and your content. I love your energy even when you are trying and pushing through your issues. I love your integrity, your designs, your willing to be open and honest. I admire your ideas of family and the way you and Joey work together for the pups and are adult enough to realize you are family and have a bond. It doesn't have to be a bf bond just a bond that no other needs to understand.I'm the same way with a couple of my exes. Somethings are more important than being petty or resentful. It takes over your life. Stay true, stay you and continue to follow your dreams and passions for life and design and adventure.

As a swede I do love Ikea. It's great for a starter home to get everything you need for cheap (furniture is getting ridiculously expensive) at least in Sweden since we don't have a lot of cheaper options (but they are starting to come like Dollarstore). The bad thing is that it's a lot of boxy furniture with no personality and not that personal either since almost everything you see there you know someone that owns it lol. But it's also fun to see that they still sell a lot of stuff that they used to like 20 years ago. We bought our couch there and it's SOOOO nice! Ikea is.. a lot though, very exhausting to go through everything in just one time. They were closing when me and my partner went there so they only had the chicken meatballs left but they were really good, don't remember how the normal ones taste, but the sauce 😘👌

Well that was fun, I've never been to an IKEA because of it's hugeness,
but I've heard so much about the Swedish Meat Balls and it seems you approve, just the ambiance was lacking (and you'd be right, lol). The tea lights were an excellent deal, like the idea of the mantel over the fireplace, or in an opaque vase. So much fun shopping with you as always, so thank you Daniel for taking us along, see you soon!

I love IKEA but I agree - you need to look up what you want before you go. You just can't look at everything in there, it's too much. I would guess that like 70 % of my home is from IKEA lol but I'm Swedish. And my style is pretty Scandinavian minimalistic and simple but cozy, so it works. I usually shop online too because I don't have a car and I don't want to be exhausted.
I would say that the food at IKEA is like school lunch, not even close to great. The fika is nice and affordable though. What they really should be known for is their scented candles! I buy allll of my candles from IKEA. They're cheap but good quality and they smell incredible. I don't even like vanilla scented stuff but the IKEA candles are amazing. You have to check back in the winter for christmas scented candles!

Yum, lingonberry sauce, it was served with your meatballs! *My favourite salad dressing recipe for a one person salad* (use any kind of fruit preserves) -- mix 2 tablespoons of both oil, vinegar, add a sprinkling of fine herbs, and 1 tablespoon of lingonberry sauce. Stir then drizzle over greens with green apple and celery, and lastly freshly cracked pepper and a pinch of pink salt overtop.

I'm shocked you found the food so fast! The IKEA near me is like a maze with secret passages. I cannot get in and out of there in under 90 minutes and get turned around and cannot find the checkout to escape!
I've tried the meatballs twice. I thought the first time I couldn't eat them must have been a bad batch of gravy or something since everyone thinks they're amazing. Second go at them, still didn't like them and their drink options are not good, you can't get caffeine! I think I would starve if I found myself in Sweden.
I'm 100% with you on how overwhelming it is with products absolutely everywhere. I don't go in anymore because it's so hard for me to find what I'm looking for even when I know which department it's in. First I have to navigate the labyrinth and trap doors just to find the department. 2 hours later I'm still trying to find the exit. I only do curbside pickup if there's something I want there, but really the only things I ever find myself wanting from Ikea are their big storage bags.
I do miss the little rooms though. I always felt like I was on set starring in my own sitcom, filmed before a live studio audience.

I never go through the show room. I usually just enter through the exit & go straight to the market. Also if you add things to your cart on the app, it tells you which aisle your furniture is in. Who’s got time for the circus of a store lol

I feel like IKEA is good for the smaller items. Like you got. Furniture wise for me it just seems cheap. Not price wise but quality. I haven’t been in years so maybe it has changed? 🤷‍♀️ Loved your haul. I want to get those larger tea lights.

I really like IKEA, been buying furniture off and on for years, I like just walking around the store for fun just to waste time now and then. The only thing that's been kind of annoying of late is how much their prices have gone UP, by like a lot. Went recently to replace one of my small bookshelves (to go cherry/brown astatic to all black astatic), just the door along was more than what I originally paid for the old cabinet, additional shelf and the door... $150 for a single cabinet (was $45 before for all 3 parts), ouch. Not to mention them always having something out of stock when you have to buy the separate parts by piece it sucks. Get the door but not the extra shelf, or get the shelf and the door but wait a month for the cabinet...
The food has always been overrated and over priced for what it is.

The first time I ever visited Ikea was 3 years ago (biggest one on the Eaat coast) and there was almost no one inside due to COVID, but I still had a full on panic attack inside. I have never had that happen in public before. I felt like I was in a weird fun house and felt disoriented and started to get dizzy and sick and it all felt a bit uncanny Valley. My daughter was with me and she has never had a panic attack in her life and she had one too. I order ikea online now and pick it up. I cannot go inside. 😢

We have an IKEA in Latvia, I've been there a couple of times (cus it's too far from where I live) and all I can say is that I don't think their offers are that great tbh. The furniture is overpriced, the food also overpriced, my mom and i went last month and paid around 25 euros for 2 cakes, 2 main dishes and 2 drinks. That's crazy expensive for Latvia. I pay that at a restaurant- yes. But in IKEA - that's cafeteria food. Very weird. The only thing that I liked was the selection of plates. If it's on sale, you can get a great deal. We got these super cute plates for like 0.59 euros a piece. We only took 6 and I really regret that, should have taken at least 12. Everyone in my family really likes them. And last time we went, we got even cheaper deal of 0.39 euros per plate. And they have like wild summer flowers drawn on them, really cute (daisies, cornflowers etc).
