It's so interesting how different snakes shed differently. My corn snake does the same thing, crawls out of her 'onesie' as you call it lol. But my Ball Python basically just flexes his way out like the Hulk ripping off his clothes 😅
@@GreenRoomPythonshow do I help my ball python? He actively ignores his shed and doesn’t try to get it off. His humidity is great and my vet said to try giving him a 10 minute soak. I do but he still doesn’t try, then it dries out and flakes off on its own. I’ve resorted to soaking him and helping him shed in one piece (or multiple bigger pieces). I only do this once the shed has started lifting and is ready to come off. But he never tries to rub it off on his own… this has been an issue since he was a baby btw
@YurioPlisetski I've never had a snake like that, but I would make sure his humidity is 80% at all times and I would give him a humid hide every time I notice he's starting to go into shed. That's the best you can do for him prior to actually shedding. I would do that instead of the soak. Soaking can be stressful for ball pythons and a humid hide that they can choose to go into will give you the same if not better results
@ Oh I should have mentioned, he has a humid hide! I keep it in 24/7 and mist it only when he’s about to shed. He almost never uses it but he seems to really enjoy the soaks. He goes under water and tries to go back in sometimes when I take him out. I put rougher rocks and stuff in his enclosure to see if that would help and still awful sheds from him. He’s my only snake that has issues. I have tons of corns and carpet python, every sheds in one piece but him. He’s just a weird snake in general. He has a nightly routine where he does the same exact thing every night. And when he’s fed, he takes the rat, wraps it for 5-10 minutes, lets go, wonders around his enclosure, then goes back to the rat and eats it… he does this every time, without fail.
I love how you can see their scale and pigment patterns in their shed. I found an intact garter snake shed in my backyard, and the detail, especially in its head, is stunning.
Next time you find one make it into a necklace! You can buy an empty pendant and glass covering, cut the shed into the shape to fit it, and then seal it with a bit of glue and the glass! You can also put some colored paper underneath the shed, different colors work well with different colored snake sheds.
@luvxoxundertalehazbinhotel1835 That would be cool! Snake Discovery actually sells snake shed pendant kits. I'm thinking about picking one of those up to support them. The one I have now was fully intact. It was probably shed a couple minutes before I went into my backyard, so it's in insanely good shape. I'd like to display it in a picture frame. If I find one that is less pristine, I'll make a pendant or 12!
Stop why is she so cute!! 😭 checking for snacks while her face skin is fanned out like an Elizabethen collar, yawning, taking a swim, satisfying slow-mo shed, and checking for snacks again while showing off her new scales. Wish I could like this twice ❤❤
I keep watching. Stella's a beauty!! She's so sweet too ... Like LOOK AT MY NEW SKIN DAD!! The yawn is sweetest then the after changing swim. Like she likes the water on her new scales...❤❤❤❤ It's always cool watching the videos of snakes who bond with their humans. She looks to you for so much and she clearly trusts you to help if she can't manage on her own. That's a trusting well handled and loved baby right there!!
I love how in this video you said you had the impulse to pull it off but you didnt educating people that even though thats an urge its not something you should do unless theyre struggling and its stuck.
I love watching ur vids Bob, , I see ur getting moved in nicely, I like seeing how u have your terrarium set up, (And other helpful hints).. Looks good Thanks BOB 🐍 😎👍🐍
My snake makes me help her shed. She’ll peel the shed off her face but once it’s started she’ll then thump her head on the side of her enclosure until I take her out and hold her just in front of her shed. Then she’ll slither out of it. Idk why she does this but it’s kinda cute and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that she trusts me so much.
My hognose has always shed in one piece. But he prefers to do it while tunnelling so i only ever find them when i remove his decor and stuff and get out the litter scoop and sift the bedding or scoop to remove and replace his bedding. It lets me know hes happy in his environment
My ball python always poos when she sheds so the shed is never in tact 🥲 I'll take it though she is easy in every other way. Really cool to see a snake skin peel on action
Cute! 🐍 Great catch. How long was the whole process? This is my most favorite aspect of the archetype of Snake, the repeated rebirth/renewal-seen here irl! Thank you for sharing
Helping to care for my computer teacher's bearded dragon taught me how to deal with difficult/moody sheds: SPA DAY. A tote bin 1/3 full of very warm (NOT hot!) water w/ a drop of baby oil in it. Let them soak for 10-20 (don't let them get chilled!) and it will soften a stubborn shed so it sloughs right off. Towel dry and apply snacks.
If their humidity is too low, the snake could be dehydrated and then may need some help like a humid hide or a soak, depending on the species and depending on the individual. I wouldn't recommend baby oil though and definitely keep an eye on the temp if I'm soaking them. I don't let it get above about 92°
I have two ball pythons. One of mine does figure eights like this after she's able to get a split, and the other...well. I've never personally seen him shedding, but every time he sheds I honest to god think he's exploded into tiny pieces. My guess? I think he flexes until it just shatters. Because he almost 100% of the time also lays a massive poor egg for me to find as well.
I'd bump his humidity up to somewhere between 60% and 80% and he should give you a good shed. When you notice that he's in shed, you can bump the humidity even further to around 90% for that week
I love being able to see snake pupils. I like knowing where theyre looking lol. I always wish i could see where my ball python is looking but his little black eyes are so cute
It's such a bummer when you have one that learns how to bust out in pieces because they'll keep doing it the same way. Have a hognose that does this thing where she breaks it below her neck so she can pull it up over the top of her face and then undoes the rest of it the typical direction. She absolutely refuses to bust open at the nose now she always does it at the neck. I have seen her intentionally rubbing at the neck! She only shed the classic way like the first two times and now it's neck busting or nothing😅 it's like a hoodie that doesn't have a zipper in front and must come off the opposite direction.

Bump your ball pythons humidity to closer to 80% and you'll get a one-piece shed from them :-)

If you have a piebald, you can see the markings SUPER clearly, it's amazing!

I'm so glad you enjoyed all those elements!
The snacks check is the most important part. Also the cutest, altho swim time is close

My corn snake's last shed was a poop shed, never happened before and was super gross 😖
My aunt hate snakes, but I personally love them because I think they're cute.

Start to finish, it took about 6 minutes, which might be the fastest I've ever seen
She is really cute

Your enrichment is amazing!! How did you build a sky hide???
Thank you! It's just a bracket attached to the ceiling that you can slide a hide in and out of
