My mom and I will be going to Honolulu next few weeks. We will be departing from EVV to ORD early in the morning and we also will be departing from ORD to HNL in the morning.
I was on a United flight from Anchorage - Chicago and we were also told to de-board the plane because of a mechanical issue. We waited for 2 hours to board again before they told us the flight was cancelled until the next day at noon. When we came back and boarded the next day, we were told to de-board once again because the pilots hadn't shown up. We waited for 4 hours after that until we finnaly departed. 21 hour delay in total. I'm not really sure if it was a pre-merger aircraft but it was a 737-900
I flew on this same Airliner out of Houston to Honolulu in November 2016. It had the 2-5-2 Seating as shown in the video. The 2-5-2 Seating arrangement in economy was great! On the return flight back, we had a 777 with the new 3-4-3 Seating arrangement, and it SUCKED !!! The most miserable, uncomfortable flight I've ever been on. I don't know what UNITED is thinking, unless they are trying to get into the Cattle business! Everyone was packed in economy like a Cattle Trailer full of Cows.. 8 1/2 hours of pure misery... Anyway... GREAT VIDEO !!
A 16 year old aircraft And a 9 plus hour flight with no meal service, not good. I remember getting dinner service from LGA to ORD on a flight once (a million years ago)
I94SOUTH I agree. UA really should serve free food in economy on all Hawaii flights. Their only excuse for not doing so is because it's a domestic flight.
This is a United pre merger 777-222, not a Continental 777-224, which has seatback IFE since day one, pre United sucks. No complimentary coach meal on a 9.5hr flight that was delayed an hour. Continental would've NEVER done that
I go to Honolulu at least twice a year...and only flew United this same flight once and never again. We had a 3 hr delay to start off and NO iFE made for one of the longest 8.5 hour flight the longest ever. That 2x5x2 made it seem like a cattle car experience The positive note we did have a great flight crew and the flight attendants were great. I now only fly Delta out of Atlanta now. The plane has IFE's and I hear they are serving an on board meal again. Plus I prefer the layout of the A-330-300.
I do mean no free meal Service on a 9 hours flight you must be kidding. Is the U.S. Aviation industry at that low(est) Level..... Cant believe this. thats disgusting. United is a nightmare.
claus stimpfig you blame the entirety of the United States aviation industry on one airline? That's not very fair of you. One airline may be crappy but that doesn't mean all of them are. You ever fly Southwest? American? Delta? If not, then you don't know the full situation and you're just being stupid and ignorant.
I used to work in the U.S. aviantion industry...well, in the much better years. And be asured of that we flew the American flag with pride around the globe. Especially my person. And be sure of me fly ing Delta, American, T.W.A. (the best one) , PanAm, Northwest, Eastern Airlines, Continental..no , no Southwest. I would never ever fly with that company. Offering no free dinner/lunch on a trip from ORD to HNL is a disgrace. Offering no free alcoholic beverages as well. And the BOB offering. Well, to me just another way to steel money out of your pocket. AA ,DL or UA are a hundred miles away from their once glory and shine. Delta and United so did American offered a caviar and champagne service in their international first class cabin..Now, Delta and United have no more fist class cabin AT ALL. And American only on very few routes. They simply can`t compete with deluxe airlines like Air France`s "la premiere" product or Lufthansa`s "First". Not to mention Etihad, Emirates, Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific. I feel very sorry for the U.S. carriers. It is very hard to step down..and I feel sorry for the U.S. consumers. They have to pay thousands of Dollars to get almost nothing onboard. Even in domestic first class the meals are in general "upgraded" fast Food....just have a look at the UA-cam concerning Videos. I am far from being ( your words) stupid and ignorant I think. I just feel so sorry....
Nobienify You don’t understand that they aren’t paying thousands of dollars to get nothing. At the end of the day they are paying to get to the desired destination. Sure, the food onboard and entertainment are also something to take into account, but if you get on a plane and it has no free meals or built in entertainment systems or whatever. You still aren’t wasting your money because in the end of the day you are getting to your destinations and that’s really what your paying for.
maxc_20 I know! No IFE and no free meals are the only two issues on this route, but if you bring your own device with the United app on it and you get something to eat before boarding, then you should be good to to go.
A.S. Aviation & Rail Productions Well, the only problem for the United entertainment app is the small screen for those only bringing their smartphones! But as a comparison there's 7-8 hour United flight to Europe which have IFE and free meal
Yes I agree, the small screen is the only issue. I really don't understand why United doesn't offer IFE or free meals on the Hawaii flights, some of those flights are longer than Chicago to Heathrow or Newark to Frankfurt, etc. All the Europe flights have IFE and free meals in economy.
@@FirstClassFlyer hawaii is typically a "low income" vacation route, people pay the least amount possible to get there, and the majority unfortunately don't care enough about meals as they should
Aaron Rollins well, only on the domestic configuration 777's. The other pre-merger 777's, the international configured ones, have seatback IFE in economy.
What’s up man. I just came back over to these vids to see what it would be like if I were to fly on a 777-200. On June 13th 2021 I’m supposed to be on UA219 ORD-HNL, but it will be operated on a 787-8. I will try my best to make a trip report on it, to see if it is different than the 772, and see which one is better for ORD-HNL. I’m very excited to check it out although I would rather a 772. We shall see 👍
I’m guessing these “slaveship” 777-222A’s will be replaced by newer 787’s before long, likely the -10 variant. Hate how United started putting them on longer haul flights including across the Atlantic on turns out of Newark. Really not appreciated to have barebones basic cabins on 7+ hour flights, with no video on demand.
Great review! I took this flight about 10 times (probably 20 with return) and I really don't like united's first class seats. Very happy they are refurbishing there Hawaii 777 fleet with flat bed seats now starting in late 2017
jet pro thanks! And I flew the refurbished 777 flying back to ORD. It had the lie flat beds and new economy seats. That trip report should be coming in a few weeks.

Shan Sohi awesome! The United flight from Newark to Delhi or to Mumbai is around 16hrs. There will definitely be IFE (tv screens) inside the plane and they will give food. I am not sure if they have a vegetarian option but be sure to request it before the flight. The seats should be pretty comfortable.

"Pre-Merger 777s" prone to MX issues? The whole United fleet (ex-CO fleet as well) is plagued with issues. Like how there was no PTV on a 9+ hour flight.
Yep, they've phased out this cabin completely. They replaced it with the newer 3-4-3 layout which I flew on my way back. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/hWki5dPaU28/v-deo.html

no thanks...
Just stop complaining about United. Keep your opinions to yourself. If it’s not nice at all, don’t say it. Just give them a break.
Lol are you serious?
"Pre-Merger 777s" prone to MX issues? The whole United fleet (ex-CO fleet as well) is plagued with issues. Like how there was no PTV on a 9+ hour flight.
How disgraceful that United is flying this antiquated plane with NO in flight entertainment and not serving any food on a 9+ hour flight. Disgusting.
Yes I agree. If you look at Delta they have IFE with full on-demand entertainment and meals on their flight to Hawaii.
This cabin is as outdated as my grandma, I hope they retrofit it soon.
Yep, they've phased out this cabin completely. They replaced it with the newer 3-4-3 layout which I flew on my way back. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/hWki5dPaU28/v-deo.html
