I just opened up my ONKYO receiver, cleaned it with Contact Cleaner, pasted a heat sink on the DTS Chip and it started working flawlessly without any issue.
Thanks man, my TX-NR515 lost sound a couple of days ago. I had no idea they would fix it for free. Already signed up and waiting for my box to arrive. :)
Thanks! I had this happen to me a couple days ago. I shot it with a blow dryer for 30 seconds and it worked for about 10 minutes. I did it again and it's been running ever since. I guess I'm lucky, I've had no issues since I bough it new 4 years ago.
I have the same issue with no audio and had it packed away for a couple of years. Thanks for the repair link. I just got off the phone with Onkyo and they are shipping my box and prepaid label.
I admire this kid's obvious thirst for knowledge. Now, those of us with a little more advanced understanding of repairing these things would not use this method to repair this, at least he didn't put the whole board in the oven like alot of people seem to be doing lately.
I have a TX-NR717 and my search gave me two possible failures. One is a "defect" (see below ) DTS Chip and the other one is a general failure at the HDMI board. So i wanted to try the baking of the HDMI board in the oven... This completely failed because the HDMI board is connected to a 90° angled PCB and i could not evaluate which kind of the connection is, fixed or mated, i was not able to unlink the connection. Therefore i decided to do a partial heat up of the whole HDMI board with a construction lighter with control of a laser thermometer where i could check the temperature at single spots. This is very important because the max T of the PCB in consumer applications is 85°. I controlled the T at the Chip and also on the PCB, after 10 minutes i had partially 150° on the solder joints and 90° on the PCB.... What should i say more as if all functions of the receiver are working! I could not locate the failure but who cares....
thank you onkyo for fixing my receiver which ive just received back after free repair and carriage , my video is on my you tube if anyone has similar sound issues and wishes to return there product for repair, to prove they do fix the problems
+nickhow100 Yes, Onkyo does allow you to return the unit by going to: www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php . The unit in the video had been previously repaired. Please note that once you get the unit back you MUST put a heatsink on the DTS chip by Texas Instruments (the one shown in the video) or else the same thing will happen again.
Thank you for posting this repair. It work for my 616 but I did not use halogen lamp instead I used a heat gun which is safer and I already own one. Much faster than a lamp. This is pretty much the same as the fix for the PS3 CPU chip.
Its due to bond wires that connect the slicon inside to the pins on the outside package. The microscopic wire is reconnectign when the copper expands in the small bond wire.
I do not believe it's related to bonding, i assume it is a so called "cold solder joint" where the solder joints are being recrystallized due to temperature cycles. Worst case is the solder joint brakes, in this case the solder tin structure could be restored and the contact resistance could be lowered.
I used the reflow method to fix my tx nr807 from dying and put in 2 funs in it after that. One to blow air directly on the dts chip and one to draw out the heat from the avr. Since then I have been using the A/V for months without this issue again but before that even after reflow it barely last for a day without turning sound off again, so I Think the cooling method is the only way to save it after reflow.
I bought one of those laptop cooling pads and plugged it into the USB on the rear of the unit. Mine has been operating fine since around March of 13. It has just started with the sound issue. I found that I also have no ethernet connectivity when the sound issue is present. By placing it in NET mode, cycling power on the unit, I get Network Initializing prompt on my TV. Once that works, I can then change to one of my HDMI inputs. I have found that by leaving it streaming a station on NET for a short while seems to be more reliable. If I quickly change to one of the HDMI inputs after getting the network initializing prompt, it will sometimes quit again. This is my 2nd Onkyo receiver in 8 years and I'm losing faith in their product. I certainly hope they will stand by this and fix it even though it's out of warranty. It's what I expect from a quality product.

Hello, I have the Receiver Onkyo TX-NR-3007, after an unsuccessful update, it displays the message ,,,, MMPU SETTING and does not accept any commands anymore. but when it is connected to the internet by the network entrance, it tries to do the update but only stays at Zero percent, I live in Brazil and here almost has no assistance of the brand. Is there any solution to this problem? I saw that it has internally the JTAG connector ,,, could you indicate which eepron recorder can be used to do this update?

I contacted Onkyo a couple of years ago through the link shared and they're not fixing any more...out of parts. I told them I'm not buying Onkyo anymore. Only had it about 5 years. I expect more.
Good evening and congratulations for the video. I take this opportunity to ask you a question. I have an onkyo sv454 amplifier that has a problem. In FM radio the speakers sound good while if I put on video1,2,3 or CD and try to reproduce the audio coming from the various sources the left channel does not play, only the right works. If I put it on the radio it works perfectly. What should I check once opened? thanks and to the next video. ps: If I leave it unplugged for a few days and then mention it, both speakers work for a few minutes in every situation. What can it be? Sorry my english but i'm italian. thank you
you might be able to get better reaction if you use some solder paste and a hot air soldering gun you might be able to get it actually reconnect to the board
My Onkyo TX-SR875 gives Popping/Crackling sound in main Front Left and Front Right Channels. And its works ok only in Multi channel in mode with Pure Audio/Direct Audio sound mode. Its not works in DSP modes.
Good Morning. I have an Onkyo Receiver model TX-NR3007 and after an unsuccessful firmware update, now only the message MMPU SETTING appears on the display and does not obey any command. already a solution to this problem?
Hello Joshua! nice video. I was wondering if the receivers of 2017 have the same problem? i mean lik the RZ series TX-RZ820 and TX-RZ810 Do somebody know if they fix the problem definetly?
I have a pioneer sc-1222, it has a very low intermittent tick sound while operating. Then it shuts off all sound totally about a half an hour off operating. I then unplug the power cord then plug it back up the sound returns. But still with the low tick.
@@Joshismack good stuff. its not hard to give it a go and take it as a learning curve .but if you love your amp, then yes thats worth the warranty on the repair ^_^
Once Onkyo stops repairing thair mistake, find a mini fan that will work off of a low voltage source in the amp and solder it over the chip. Use your test light to find a supply voltage that matches the fan. You can change the voltage with resistors too. While you are at it put a fan on the chips that bolt to your heat sink.
This Just happened to my tx-nr 717, thanks to the comments here I'm able to send it out for repair. Hopefully it won't reoccur, but they're extending the warrantee to 2018, so that works for me.
drew mora - The warranty was extended to Dec 2017. The problem with the warranty repairs, is what some here have experienced - the fault re-occurs, then they don't want to know. Can a heatsink on the chip, or a heatsink/fan completely elliminate the failures?
It fixes it by reflowing the solder that cracks over time from heat I used a bit of flux an a heat gun to fix mine then I bought a small heat sink an mounted it to the top of the chip an it's been working for a few years now
I have Onkyo TX-SR 875 AV Receiver. Recently It has strange issue. When I turn on the receiver the Headphone logo shows on its display screen even i didn't attached any headphone with it physically. Because of this there is no sound coming from any speakers attached with this receiver, even headphone also not given any kind of sound. I tried to reset the factory mode several times but didn't got any success. I also tried to insert headphone physically and pull back its jack but nothing happen. So please help me solve this issue. If possible upload repair video of this issue.
would these also be the same issue if i lost audio in only zone 3? Zone 2 still has audio (outside speakers) . I made sure my zones are both on. I have no audio for my tuner, DVD or cable, again only in zone 3. Thanks for the great info.
Rodney Allgire Press Power and VCR/DVR buttons until "CLEAR" reads on the display. This will clear all the settings on the receiver and hopefully get your sound back!
JohnWayne Lustbug, please check your Google+ settings regarding comments. Did you get your request granted? I got a NR-TX717 and they fixed it, now it is being shipped back to me.
+Joshua's Recordings they sent me a box, i sent it in, within a week or less, it got repaired and sent back. I got speaker indicators, net,. usb, the whole 9. I used it for a few months then sold it. I got a Tx-NR809 now that has the same issue, BUT i found out how to bypass the hdmi board, Press BD/DVD and power (with it off), it will come and say HDMI Board:Use, I pressed power while still holding BD/DVD and it changed to ignore, i heard a click, and then i found it puts out sound, but net and usb still do not work, BUT putting it in direct or pure audio mode is the only way to get sound. I have the box for my 809 now and i will ship it to them tomorrow. This is a nice reciever, for this model line its the flagship model (highest model). Its big heavy and has a lot of features.
i sent the request for my NR-709. I tried the hair drier trick, but it didn't work. But i dont think i was aiming it at the right chip. now that i know where it is, I'll try it again.I got my unit from a yard sale for $50 where the lady said it worked. got home, nope, No 2nd click no sound, no NET or USB, and no speaker indicators.
HELP split a drop of water on my onkyo tx sr353 it was on and it instantly shut off and it is totally dead no clicks or lights or any does anyone have any ideas.
is the main control chip for your surround sound unit that's what the DTs chip does it controls all the functions for your surround sound evidently have a cold solder joint on the chip and it's a contact with all the contacts on the board you want it overheats it breaks contact and it shuts down what you are doing is heating it up and possibly doing a temporary connection to the board and you will notice it'll work for a while and then it'll shut off again what needs to be done as the chip removed from the board ship needs to be ribald and re-soldered to the board but you obviously don't have the right equipment to do it
Onkyo will repair this No-Sound problem for you.. They send you a FedEx box for your receiver. You send it to them, they repair it and send it back working. Go to the Onkyo web page. Click support-> special_service_program-> Loss of Audio/Network Customer Program Follow the instructions. FYI, the serial number is a paper 16 digit number on the back bottom of the Receiver. DON'T ENTER the LAST digit.
Ira Hart Thank's a lot for this info !!!!! My TX-NR579 seems dead (no sound, no NET or Firmware update menu, Initializing...) but will be repaired by Onkyo for free :-))
Thanks for the info mate. I found an Integra DTS-50.2 at the e-waste section at the dump a while back. I'm planning on reflowing the chip with a pyropen (tiny gas heat gun). Can I ask if those speaker icons appear without speakers attached? Or would I have to wire some up for them to appear. Cheers buddy.
My TX-NR709 has been supposedly fixed last year but it just failed again today and they wont fix it again. I guess it wasn,t really repaired so I am going back to YAMAHA. Got three of those already and never ever had any problems at all. Goodbye ONKYO...
+Luc Daig yes, you see they replace the chip but they do not put a heatsink on it. It is just going to happen again in a year or two. Onkyo makes very, very good AV receivers though. The problem with this batch is a chip made by Texas Instruments. Texas Instruments claimed the chip does not need a heatsink - it does! So the chip overheats. This really is not Onkyo's fault and is the fault of TI. Like I said Onkyo's AV receivers are a superb quality. When I get them repaired I put a heatsink on the chip. I got one repaired last summer by Onkyo (that I found at the dump!). Put a heatsink on the chip and it is still working great!
Friend u could help me have a onkyo tx nr 515 that stopped calling dfe would know if he could send me the elertoco scheme of the same or any repair tip'm in Brazil the outputs of transistors station ok poiu vis already testing the same
Yes dts chip is the problem. This same basic thing occurs with the Xbox 360 rrod red ring of death and Sony PS3 ylod. What happens is your heating the flux back into a gel and the pin connections to the board under the chip are reset so to speak.
When you find that heating the PCB board is not resolving the issue- as it will occur again via this failed method of a permanent fix; We currently have a SpecialService program to assist our customers reporting this issue. Please go intoour Onkyo USA website: www.onkyousa.com. Click on the SUPPORT tab and thewebpage should now show some post-its. Look for the post-it on the far lowerright hand side labeled Special Service Program and click onto it to review theinformation. We are covering free shipping and also providing a box with packaging suppliesand a FedEx prepaid label to have your receiver evaluated/ serviced promptly. - DP
Johnny Onkyo Thanks to your post I just went through this process. Have to say that its an absolute joke the trade in value you guys are offering considering you built a defective unit and now I have to go out of my way to get it repaired. Thanks to this complete lack of customer service this will be the first and LAST Onkyo product I ever buy. I should have known to spend a few dollars more for the Sony equivalent. Now I am paying for it with a broken unit that's costing me loads of my personal time to get sorted out. I will make sure anyone that I know (facebook, Instagram, twitter) will never purchase from your company.
It is best to have them replaced the board right away. The heat and electricity travels on these board basically wear out the cheap coating used on these types circuit boards. The heat/cold expansion causes the short circuit. Hopefully you're within your warranty. i had mine replaced within 2 weeks at the authorized repair center and learnt the real problem from the technician ultimately.
rayred73 What do you mean "the real problem". The problem is with the DTS (DAC) chip, it gets too hot and causes the solder joints to go cold/cracked. To fix it properly you need to reflow the solder or reball the DAC.
Real problem was referred as overheating board with cheap coating which caused cracking of and soldered connecting as I was told. The CHIP can be a driving factor. Didn't mean to stop over boundary.
rayred73 No, I was just asking, you didn't step over any boundary. Also just want to make sure you know that the coating of the board is not the problem, it is the solder. What would of fixed it is if they just used a heatsink in the first place.
you have to reflow the solder beads under the processor chips. the halogen light doesn't get hot enough. you need a heat gun. Harbor Freight has one for $8. the solder beads loses connection because over time the heat inside causes the PCB to warp
Anders Johnson The Real problem was the board or the chip on it. I tried to heat it but it’s never works... I write long email to Onkyo, said I was disappointed about their product. They write me that I can claim warranty even if my Onkyo has 9year old. They ship me prepaid box, I ship my Onkyo to somebody and after 3 weeks I receive it and it’s work like brand new one! You can try the same way, I hope you’ll find same issue than me. Oh and after 9 month after repairs, I have new trouble. I just remplace it by a Yamaha... I have my old Onkyo here if you want me to try something ;p (sorry for my not-perfect English, I’m French (Québec))
@@MathieuProulx1 with consumer electronics they tend not to use rugged PCB's. Sooner or later the heat causes the layers to become conductive or fail. The best you can do is scavenge parts from another one
obviously a process issue, a cold solder joint that broke due to fatigue of the material due to normal use. When you heat the device, the pins that lost contact, dilate and make contact again. I have the same problem, just happened two days ago. Out of warranty, unfortunately. Is yours under warranty? Did you get it repaired?
No, if you watch this: Onkyo TX-NR1007, Altec Lansing Mi7 & Dell Dimension e521 From the dump!!, you will see I got it from the our local transfer station! I contacted the company only to find out that it has been previously repaired!!
This just happened to mine this is the second time on two receivers same model too txnr609 all the sudden no sound on any of my hdmi selections .I got this new about 18 months ago
if you want to do a good job, you need a rework station first and second you need add liquid fux for the reflow process. You can find a chinese rework station for US$35.
You really have not fixed it(the sound issue) the problem is in the dts chip itself, that is the nano connectors or most know them as "Gold layering's(traces)" Because when this chip gets hot, and due to expansion and contraction of the chip set, eventually it breaks down under the cooling process. Thus, when you heat it up you close the open traces. Failure to provide proper heat sink and cooling fan, is a plan for disaster. At one time it was the solder and being a ball solder chip set, the poor solder broke down and opened the connections. Today we use higher tensile solder so rarely do you have to reflow, which is a short term fix. The best process is to remove the chip set, clean, and use a reballing machine chip soldering station, if you can afford one, 5K up, the better ones 10-20k up. Wrap up, the best way is to R & R the defective chipset with a new one, if you can find one. BTY, manufacturers are getting greedy and smart, they are now putting Bios ID's (like Apple) in their chipsets for that particular unit and must be programed for that unit, which means any identical chipset will not work but must be programed by the manufacturer for that unit, Reason, you know!
It will stop working again after about a day or so. This is just a temporary fix! Check to see if you can send your receiver to Onkyo by following this link: repair.onkyousa.com/na/ If not you can try to reball the chip (if you have the proper tools). Make sure to put a heatsink on the DTS chip after you get it repaired!
Hi I have tried my Onkyo TX-NR 414 but its not working. No sound no nothing I have tried the hairdryer resurrection but still not lucky. Justus- Kenya.
Justus Ndegwa Did you try Onkyo's free repair program? You can find it here: www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php. If your unit has not been repaired before, they will do it free until 2018!
One of 3 things is happening.... First of all, it is a BGA device. As you see, there are no leads on the part. If you need to change it, you have to have a BGA rework station. it has special optical sections that allign the part, perfectly so the balls of solder on the chip meet the landings on the board. That being said... A) the part, inside could be faulty and heat will warp the part causing things inside, to reconnect and it will work. 2) the bottom of the BGA part is warped and a ball or more isn't making proper contact with the board and when heat is applied, the part warps, causing the ball/s to contact properly and it works. 3) The main bord could be warped, not perfectly flat, and the balls won't make good connection either. In any case, there is a process problem, either with the part, the soldering of the part, or the main bord not being made to spec. BGTAS are very hard to diagnose because you can't see the solder balls or resolder them. Get used to seeing this all the time, for 2 reasons.... A) lead free solder sucks and is very difficult to do a good solder job with. B) most parts are going BGA, with no leads except the solder balls on the bottom of the part. At the end of the day, the only things you can do are send it back to the manufacturer or certified repair station or junk it and buy a new one. Since it is warranty, let them have the headache. If manufacturers are smart, they will make things modular and just replace boards and not complete units. As for your description, unless you have a BGA rework station, you won't be repairing BGA problems, at least not correctly.
+ken123167 Yes, you would have to heat the chip every time. What you should do is try to send the receiver to Onkyo and have them fix it. When you get it back take it apart and put a heatsink on the DTS chip. Go here to see if your receiver qualifies: www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php
I contacted onkyo and they are honoring the warranty for this issue until 2018. They sent me a box and my receiver is now getting repaired, apparently it is a common issue.
Miodrag Popović Something I do not understand? I, like many owners over the years and on different models of receiver have the same problem!!! Than Onkyo replace the controversial chip for many as well as me, after the expiration of warranty period. But they did not solve the problem of bad design. Istead of permanently eliminate the problem, thy only solve the consequencerather than the cause, replacing of defective chip?.Obviously, they do not care about their reputation, or they do not realize that the next device I,am buying will not be Onkyo.
Miodrag - Apparently ALL Rx made between 2009 and 2012 has this overheating DTS chip in them, so all of them are a ticking time bomb, waiting to fail - not a question of if, but when! IMHO Onkyo should sue Texas Instruments for these repairs (maybe they have), and force them to supply small heatsinks with fans to they can be retro fitted to all units, IF overheating is the cause of the failures.

Amigo, my amp. onkyo Mod.tx-nr609,has all audio amp aut of place, please help me
I have a pioneer sc-1222, it has a very low intermittent tick sound while operating. Then it shuts off all sound totally about a half an hour off operating. I then unplug the power cord then plug it back up the sound returns. But still with the low tick.
check your capacitors on the power stage. if you dont know what you doing. Dont play with electricity to save a buck. your life and fire are at risk.
@@sauplink7975 I get what you're saying. I'm going to put it in local shop. But I updated my comment. I didn't go into much detail.
Good for you. My unit was unfortunately already fixed. I got mine free from our local transfer station.
drew mora - The warranty was extended to Dec 2017. The problem with the warranty repairs, is what some here have experienced - the fault re-occurs, then they don't want to know. Can a heatsink on the chip, or a heatsink/fan completely elliminate the failures?
I have a ht-r592 with a bchdm-1337 hdmi board i only have sound on zone 2.Can i buy a replacement board/ what are your suggestions Onkyo wont fix it
It fixes it by reflowing the solder that cracks over time from heat I used a bit of flux an a heat gun to fix mine then I bought a small heat sink an mounted it to the top of the chip an it's been working for a few years now
What size heat sink did you use?
I have Onkyo TX-SR 875 AV Receiver. Recently It has strange issue. When I turn on the receiver the Headphone logo shows on its display screen even i didn't attached any headphone with it physically. Because of this there is no sound coming from any speakers attached with this receiver, even headphone also not given any kind of sound. I tried to reset the factory mode several times but didn't got any success. I also tried to insert headphone physically and pull back its jack but nothing happen. So please help me solve this issue. If possible upload repair video of this issue.
Onkyo thanks for the look inside !!!
+jose lopez Your welcome! They look decently made on the inside!
I'm having the same problem. If I purchases my receiver (TX-NR609) in September of 2011, will I stand a chance of Onkyo fixing it for free?
care.onkyousa.com/na/ (Follow that link and enter in model/serial # to find out if covered.)
i did heat up the chip, but once it cools down, i loose sound again. was this supposed to be a permanent fix? thanx to help me out.
Hello! Very good! I brick the silver flat cable! Do you know where i can find it ?
would these also be the same issue if i lost audio in only zone 3? Zone 2 still has audio (outside speakers) . I made sure my zones are both on. I have no audio for my tuner, DVD or cable, again only in zone 3. Thanks for the great info.
That is weird. Did you try turning the different zones off and playing in "All Channel Stereo"? Or try a system reset.
didnt try a system reset. is that just unplugging and leaving down for 15 min? called onkyo and they are going to repair for free.
That worked for me Thanks
Might be getting a Tx-NR609 with same issue. Have a 30$ ebay bid.IF i win it i'll send it in and have them fix under one time repair.
+Your Mom Your Mom Make sure it as a serial number. Some that were purchased from 3rd party dealers don't!

Sir how much time need bulb put on chips? Please bulb watts
i sent the request for my NR-709.
HELP split a drop of water on my onkyo tx sr353 it was on and it instantly shut off and it is totally dead no clicks or lights or any does anyone have any ideas.
don't spill water on your onkyo receiver
Hi, What wattage halogen light did you use and how long will the fix last?
www.eu.onkyo.com/en/customer-service-program-118747.html
Here is the official fix for us all :)
awaiting a reply from onkyo. cheers for that link
is the main control chip for your surround sound unit that's what the DTs chip does it controls all the functions for your surround sound evidently have a cold solder joint on the chip and it's a contact with all the contacts on the board you want it overheats it breaks contact and it shuts down what you are doing is heating it up and possibly doing a temporary connection to the board and you will notice it'll work for a while and then it'll shut off again what needs to be done as the chip removed from the board ship needs to be ribald and re-soldered to the board but you obviously don't have the right equipment to do it
Onkyo will repair this No-Sound problem for you.. They send you a FedEx box for your receiver. You send it to them, they repair it and send it back working.
Go to the Onkyo web page.
Click support-> special_service_program-> Loss of Audio/Network Customer Program
Follow the instructions.
FYI, the serial number is a paper 16 digit number on the back bottom of the Receiver. DON'T ENTER the LAST digit.
I know. I tried that, my receiver has already been repaired. Kind of crappy quality if you ask me.
Is this free of charge?
Martyn James Yes for your first time. Think of it as an extended warranty.
Ira Hart Thank's a lot for this info !!!!! My TX-NR579 seems dead (no sound, no NET or Firmware update menu, Initializing...) but will be repaired by Onkyo for free :-))
Ira Hart you are the best man
thanks brother bought this amp yesterday and you saved my a@#
OMG! it workt, for now its working. Thnx!
No problem!
How long it will be good?
preamp chip? that clearly has the DOLBY logos on it
Thanks for the info mate. I found an Integra DTS-50.2 at the e-waste section at the dump a while back. I'm planning on reflowing the chip with a pyropen (tiny gas heat gun). Can I ask if those speaker icons appear without speakers attached? Or would I have to wire some up for them to appear. Cheers buddy.
gas heat gun wil kil the chip fast, please use an oven at 220c 10 min.,pre heated( not a hot air oven, just normal oven gas/ell.)good luck.
So,if can I fix the same ,,,repair mine with a heat gun?my avr amp is pioneer thx...
Is the Onkyo 5.1 Receiver TXSR309 defective? I'm thinking of getting a used one
Mine recently began doing this say about 14 years of ownership.. I will research getting a small heatsink for the chip inside my receiver.
Friend u could help me have a onkyo tx nr 515 that stopped calling dfe would know if he could send me the elertoco scheme of the same or any repair tip'm in Brazil the outputs of transistors station ok poiu vis already testing the same
Someone please, turn the light on in this room!!!!
Hi everybody
I am very afraid to open me 709
But I am also can’t hear nothing
Is the dts chip is the problem
Is it easy?
- DP
Johnny Onkyo I know and I tried to get mine fixed that way. The thing is that it has already been repaired before!
I will make sure anyone that I know (facebook, Instagram, twitter) will never purchase from your company.
my onkyo receiver ht-r392 has problem with the hdmi input signal
Does it qualify for the repair program? If not you can try to reflow some of the chips on the HDMI board.
Mine got the same issue and thanks for that website. Mine will get one time free repair too. Onkyo is a good company looks like !
😂😂😂
Wow looks like several units have failed within the past couple months, mine just happened today.
What and how do I send my receiver to onkyo to get repaired?
Too late now man. Sorry. They stopped doing it in dec. 2018.
+Paul M This is for people that don't have a heat gun. I also did not have a heat gun, I do now, just not then!
How Can I do that?
I Need to remove all the PCB?
I dont think I'll See the beads under board? Its not surface mount?
@@MathieuProulx1 Did you figure this out? Trying to solve it now.
Thx so much dude👍 It worked
now put on the chip litle theropast and mini radiator and problem fix for ever
obviously a process issue, a cold solder joint that broke due to fatigue of the material due to normal use.
Frankie Bagz Did Onkyo already repair it?
Yes very quickly to
did it happen again?
Onkyo ht rc 270 Onkyo ht rc 270 are not work this method
if you want to do a good job, you need a rework station first and second you need add liquid fux for the reflow process.
You can find a chinese rework station for US$35.
So this just happened to my integra dtr 20.3 ugh probably gonna sell it now
You really have not fixed it(the sound issue) the problem is in the dts chip itself, that is the nano connectors or most know them as "Gold layering's(traces)" Because when this chip gets hot, and due to expansion and contraction of the chip set, eventually it breaks down under the cooling process. BTY, manufacturers are getting greedy and smart, they are now putting Bios ID's (like Apple) in their chipsets for that particular unit
and must be programed for that unit, which means any identical chipset will not work but must be programed by the manufacturer for that unit, Reason, you know!
So you have to heat The chip to get a temporary fix?
Yes it appears to be only temporary fix. I got mine working but as soon as it cooled down it would not work anymore.
@@IFRSKIES What did you end up doing?
every video i see like this i just keep looking at those metal caps.
It’s not an overheating problem. The soldering on the chip is shit. That melts the solder and connects again
worked fine using a hairdryer blowing for around 15min
After repair of the lost sound?
It will stop working again after about a day or so. This is just a temporary fix! Check to see if you can send your receiver to Onkyo by following this link: repair.onkyousa.com/na/ If not you can try to reball the chip (if you have the proper tools). Make sure to put a heatsink on the DTS chip after you get it repaired!

thank you so much!!!
or you could run roslin flux under chip heat it up.. that reballs the faulty solder under the chip..
Did you try this?

Justus Ndegwa Did you try Onkyo's free repair program? You can find it here: www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php. If your unit has not been repaired before, they will do it free until 2018!
Hey great video Maybe you can advice me. My left front speaker on channel A is not playing. Can you give me any advice.
Thank you.
put on the chip litle theropast and mini radiator and problem fix
hey what music
No
One of 3 things is happening....
Thanks Texas Instruments (Apparently had a recall on a ton of these) and Onkyo for not installing even a shitty heatsink on the IC.
Is it repaired? What about next time you use the amp? still need to heat the chip?
+ken123167 Yes, you would have to heat the chip every time. What you should do is try to send the receiver to Onkyo and have them fix it. When you get it back take it apart and put a heatsink on the DTS chip.
Go here to see if your receiver qualifies: www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php
It worked, awesome...
Yes, but only for a short time.... A more permanent fix would be to reflow the solder.
I contacted onkyo and they are honoring the warranty for this issue until 2018. They sent me a box and my receiver is now getting repaired, apparently it is a common issue.
Lerner Warden good to know this, mine just started doing this. Im thoroughly disappointed with Onkyo huge turn off :(
tried this still no volume
May have a different problem there is a lot of things inside that receiver that can go bad
Onkyo htr 560 sound is too low in max volume what to do
Miodrag Popović
Something I do not understand?
