Yoder Smokers YS640 Exterior Prep For Paint

- Away we go! Time to get the exterior of the Yoder YS640 pellet smoker prepared for paint. I was just doing this at night after work so it took a few nights. I would say that the better your prep the better the paint in the end will turn out. As Russell Wilson says...The separation is in the preparation.
**Disclaimer** This is my grill and I used some unconventional methods. It worked for me, but may not for you. In fact these methods may damage your grill beyond repair. I assume no responsibility for your results. I would recommend testing your methods prior to a full prep and painting project.
My results with the orbital sander turned out great. I did end up with a couple swirl marks that I’m probably the only one who can see them just because I know they are there. The front was a bear. I’m not even sure if that was rust I was trying to remove in the end. One of the reasons the front was such a trouble spot is that the front of the YS640 is a catch all for drippings. This is why I highly recommend the front grease shield. Here is a video on that. • Yoder Smokers YS640 Pe...
Other than that it went fairly smooth. I am very glad that I removed the lid. This took a lot of weight of when I removed it from the cart. It also allowed me better access during the sanding project.
Enjoy!

Total respect for your prep, brother. Whether you’re painting houses, cars or grills, prep makes all the difference.👍
Thank you!
Your detailed prep work looks great and that disc sander really did the job. Excited to see how this turns out once you're all done with the repaint.
Kitchen Queers Thank you. It was a lot of work, but I knew if I didn’t take the time to prep it right the end result wouldn’t have been what I was looking for.
Looking good so far Doc! That sander saved days of work..lol...looking forward to your next video, have a great weekend, you all stay safe!👊👍🍻
Thanks! It sure did. Next Friday is the fun video where I actually get to paint it.
Very cool process that you doing. I can't wait for the paint it's going to look really nice. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks LJ. Have another of one of these out on Friday. We will throw some paint down.
Playing catch up. She's looking good. Coming along nicely.
Perfect timing. The paint video comes out today.
@@DrTasteGoodBBQ awesome. Can't wait to see it.
Cool project man!
Thanks! It turned out real good. Did better than I thought I could.
Definitely worth it for the Yoder 🤙
Did you know, you have VA saying... what I have for yoooooouuuuuu 😂🤭 Wow you left it like new... nice way of a makeover.
Ha..That’s my saying....VA has full reign to use my tag lines. I called him out today on using a New York scratchers playlist for his music. We have a special UA-cam relationship. Hope I can meet him in real life one day. Much love 2020 for the info. ✌️
How’s the paint holding up? I have a 640 and it’s in need of a paint job. Great to see another 640 in the PNW.
Thanks Ryan. I had a couple little spots come back up on the top of the lid. I would say I probably just didn’t prep that spot as well. Easy little touch ups to do this summer. The rest of it still looks like new.
Looking good my frnd, Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍😃
Thanks for watching.
The orbital sander is a game changer... i can imagine how hard this would have been otherwise
Yep. It really helped out a lot.
Hey what grit would u recommend to strip the paint off. ?
The last I saw Yoder recommends 120 grit. A sander is not recommended. I thought mine turned out pretty good with minimal swirling that I can live with. Again, a sander is not recommended.
Amazing very Nice Video 👌🌠
Thanks. Appreciate that.
Not easy to be a BBQ doctor, it's not just trowing some e chicken wings on there, you need to be a maintenance technician as well, looks amazing -i Chef Richard
Thanks Richard. Next week I put the paint on. Happy how it turned out.
man you do such a good job at this maybe you should do cars LOL
Think I’ll stick to BBQ’s.
Get in your grill all nice and ready for when you make another amazing BBQ pray
Next week she gets painted up. Thanks for checking it out!
I have a Yoder, and it's a great unit. But the folks at Yoder need to get John Deere to teach them how to paint.
I would like to suggest you wear goggles with those orbital tools. I saw a guy go nearly blind from a piece of fragment.
Solid advice. Thank you.
