#Trombone #Jazz #Improvisation
Nice introductory lesson. Remember to add that improvisation can/should be thought of as “real-time composition over the original chord changes” where the goal is to follow the tonal centers of the original melody, while creating your own lines. To improvise well over any tune, I think it’s best to start by really knowing the original melody well. You don’t necessarily have to quote the melody, but the tonal shifts in your improvised lines should be identifiable, relative to the song’s melody. A listener should be able to hear where your solo is, within the form of the original song. This is where the ear can legitimately be said to be more important than the theory.
Totally agree with you
A trombone player from New Orleans Louisiana I really appreciate you for the improvising scale man I came a long way there's no other object more loyal to you than the trombone
'There's no object more loyal to you than the trombone.' nice 👍
I’m a bass player trying to learn trombone and this was really helpful, can’t wait to play my first solo
i love how your trombone sounds, its so clean and beautiful
Its not his trombone! He will sound like that on almost any trombone.
The scale in jazz 😮💨😮💨😮💨
I have a jazz solo at my school and this video is really gonna help thx so much
good luck!
Essential elements quiz trombone
This is awesome thank you. Im currently in highschool, first year, and I’m in Jazz C. Im so scared to participate in soloing because I feel bad compared to the rest D: But this helped a lot thank you!! 🙏
Just do it! and take advantage of the knowledge around you... other players, your teachers.
you have a great melodic gift Cus - love your original soloing!
Love this! Sounds great. Bflat blues 😎
Love the video bro hope there's a part 2
I’m loving your videos !! Man, keep going !!! Its so nice 🔥🔥🔥
Great teacher, like him better than the Chops Shop who appears to be more about showing than teaching
It's unbelievable 👍
This is a really cool way of learning improvisation!
Legal.
Vou iniciar com essas dicas.
Congratulations!!!
Супер! Спасибо 🙏
Hi, I've been following your videos for a long time.
I would like a second part of this video, it helped me a lot.
Great! Would love a part 2 :)
Realmente me encantan tus videos, te sigo desde hace unos dos años; cuando empecé a practicar trombón tenía 10 años y un día estaba buscando partituras y tutoriales en UA-cam y encontré tu canal. Me entretenía con tus videos y me hacía querer seguir tocando, gracias a tí he disfrutado mucho tocar trombón. :)
Great advice thx
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you kind sir. I appreciate the trombonist eyebrows aswell.
GREAT.
Good stuff
thanks a lot man
Excelente conteúdo 😁👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Tenho uma duvida de qual tipo de bocal você usa?
Will this be a series? Cuase you haven't updated on this...
Nice as always. I play a trigger. R u enjoying your new one? How has it affect your playing? That question might make a good video. 😃. Peace.
After playing trumpet for 33 years, i began trombone less than 6 months ago. I can run all the 12 keys now. I invest 2 Hours daily. I must perfect all these within a week
Plays a lot
0:04 I met that guy irl!
I look forward to Part 2 !! Question for you, I missed the connection between the blues scale and the II-V-I progression. Blues scales are awesome and fun to play around with, but my brain has trouble decoding chords in realtime. In your II-V7-I example, if the II is the key of D, can you just play the D blues scale there? or is there a whole different set of scales to learn for each of the chords in the progression? Many Thanks!!
did you ever figure it out on your own? im struggling with making the same connection
Is it a problem if when I solo, I dont even really think about what scale I'm on or really any music theory at all, I'm not sure if it will hurt me in the future tho.
I mean its not a problem it's just a different style
Part 2??
I was a little confused how do you do the last pattern at the end of your video?
send me a dm or email
How do I play the last two top notes of the scale at 0:50
I don’t have a trigger if that helps. I should probably know my positions by now but higher ones stump me lol
He played high Ab and high Bb both in 1st position which can be played on a normal trombone
I have played trombone for ~3 years and improv comes naturally to me. Don't feel discouraged about not being able to improvise, I have only ever met about 2 other kids my age who can Improvise. My tips for general trombone:
-On weekends where you have nothing going on don't even check your phone or turn on technology when you wake up. Just get out of bed and practice for 15 minutes. This is a way you can guarantee that you will practice.
-Practice every day, even if it is just for 5 minutes
How did you learn to tongue that fast?
Still working on it 😬
Do you have a trombone to send me, mine is really bad
This method is used by everyone since the beginning of time man 😂, not sure why you’d say you invented it. But good direction nonetheless. Easy on the theory if this is supposed to be an introduction. You must build the ear before going too deep. No one wrote the book first… listen, listen, listen and then try to copy what you hear.
I can't improve the sound because of my trombone 😢
You make it sound simple but everything you describe is complicated for those that don't understand. You have gone to theory too fast.
Like language you have to listen to tonal and rhythmic patterns then put them into context before talking about flattened 7th 2 5 1 chords etc.
This is therefore not an introduction to improvisation. To get to your level takes years.
I would start by learning folk tunes based on tonic dominant and learn by ear and then babble until it makes sense. Then take what you play at the aural oral level and put it into another context and build from there. Jazz improvisation books and UA-cam videos fail because they go to theory too early
For real he went from here is a blues scale to 2-5-1s lol
Sick playing man. Teaching style not very approachable honestly, the EDM filler music in the background was also mixed poorly and was distracting to what you were saying. This is the first video of yours ive seen, im hoping the newer ones are better.
