The 229 Redencion is currently the most talked about most coveted knife around. Riate really executed your vision. The blade is symmetrical excellence. Congratulations.
Jim, your channel has the absolute highest quality of knives. Love it since your channel is the only one that I know of reviewing knives of this quality and the reviews are top notch. Fantastic work.
Jim, I can not wait to get mine! For Ramon's first folder he hit it out of the park for sure. Congrats big time on this one brother! Thanks for sharing too! #supermoist
Sweet knife Jim, I have 2 of Ramone's kickstops and i LOVE his work...one is the tanto which I had lighting annoed and the other is the stone washed drop point.
I have #133. Hands down my favorite knife. Love the skull pocket clip. I'm not even a skull guy but this clip and knife just go together. I have had multiple offers on it. Not for sale haha!
I'm not a fan of skulls either. However I can't WAIT to get one of those in my pocket. I'll proudly display that skull and tell everyone what it is and who made it. I even asked Ramon about building me something special with his signature skull on it. If I ever get lucky enough to get in his books, I'll ask again. It doesn't matter which way you slice it, that knife is badass and everyone knows it.
Jim, I don't know how I missed this video but wow...I just picked up my first 229 Rendicion this evening (Ultramar of course...but the older with the hidden hardware on the skull) and I love those bronze highlights you did on the back spacer and the edges of the clip. You always seem to know just how to make your knives POP without being over the top. I might need to borrow that edge polish idea of yours for my paltry Reate rendition of your Rendicion...
Another great review of a great knife I'll never be able to own Jim. Even though I have the funds. So any chance of reviewing great custom knives in the $500 - $600 bracket where the maker still has their books open or there's a chance of actually getting a knife from them, instead of paying over inflated 2nd-ary market prices?
Hey Jim could you possibly try and get a three sisters forge beast for a guest blade? I might get one in the next few months and want an expert review on it. Thanks, and great video
I screwed up not getting on the most recent 228 list, had a chance but was broke at the time and opted out. I've been kicking myself in the ass over it ever since. I hope I'll be able to get one of Ramon's knives eventually otherwise I'll never get over it.
All true statements. Though skull motifs, in my opinion, look a little cheesy on high-end gear. Like putting flame decals on a Ferrari. Not knocking the knife at all-looks like a very high quality collectors' piece at a midtech price.
+sferrin2 I agree , I happen to love the skull clip. It looks great and definitely adds to the knife that is basically kind of plain looking which I really like.
That is a really neat knife, and I've enjoyed the other beauties you've made video's of. But one thing keeps coming to my mind" "hard use"... with a titanium frame and no steel-insert on the lock bar??? Yeah, not gonna take much hard use for long. You thump on that and that soft Ti is going to compress and the lock-up is now ruined. Maybe our ideas of "hard use" differ, I work in the Fire/Rescue/EMS world and live in a rural area, but I leave the truly "spendy" knives at home when the going gets tough and bring the $20 Schrade SCH301 or CRKT M21-14 for the real daily work-outs or my RAT-7 for a back-country blade. There are too many great "lower cost" options out there to thump on expensive customs and somehow I get the feeling "hard use" in this case means a really thick envelope.
Steel lockbar inserts are a new thing. Knives worked fine before them. And the steel insert isn't on a knife for added stability or strength, they are there to eliminate lock stick and to reduce wear/prolong lock face life.
It has taken me almost 3 years to see this, but dang, a fixed knife guy blows all the folding clips, that I have seen from other folding knife makers, right out of the water.
Love the vid Jim, Thanks. The knife is very nice. Kind of plain looking until you turned it over. Great top of the clip, bottom not so much to wide for my taste. Bet that clip holds well though. Thanks Jim. Mike
Jim, the two fasteners on the clip. It would be sick if they were changed out to a low profile, but raised type that would look like two horns on the skull head! Great vid!
i can understand why you guys are angry. i dont think that it is in good taste to publicly comment about other knife makers unless its done in a fair manner , meaning you atleast handle the knife and test your theories. i have to admit his comments did seem a bit harsh considering Ramon should be his peer. anyway, i dig Ramons knife and i would buy it any day no matter what will has to say about it. somtimes its tuff to understand what is grey area or when somone is crossing the line when commenting and voiceing opinions. gun to my head will may have crossed the line a bit ,all things considered. anyway , I hope Ramon keeps on making more great knives .
dhl671 I rarely comment on things such as this, but you sir, are just out of line. I have seen other comments of yours on Jim's vids, and you are just insulting him, and others. You called him retarded above, a liar, etc etc. Above you just called Chris a dumb fuck and a little bitch. You lack tact buddy, in every way possible. You come onto someones channel, and you spew things such as this? All because someone who has an extremely popular channel, and does videos on things he pays for with his own money and then you slam him for how he sees fit to use them? There is a way to voice your opinion without coming off being rude, ignorant and a downright asshole. Jim was actually very professional in his responses to you....myself, I would have told you to Fuck off and block you. You sir, are part of the problem with the internet and the downfall of society , where people think they can just say whatever they want to others without repercussions, because it is just a comment box on the internet. UA-cam is filled with ignorant fucks such as your self, with nothing better to do than slam people on their channels. And I will state again as I end this comment, that you and everyone else are entitled to their opinions, but the way that you voice yours with insults and profanity, might just be the issue.
Jim you got me into watches! I think you need to have your own knife show you would be great at it and inform customers on what to buy like you do with watches. Think about. Call the show World of Knives.
great review jim. love the knife. the wierd thing is it dosnt look like your typical overbuilt knife. i cant quite put my finger on why but i absolutly love it! and yes jim , yours is shorter then the others thats what she said. misses blow. ha ha
Ahh man the new offering from Todd Begg the black/gold Bodega really turns my crank. Please review one Jim, I can't imagine you don't have one in your pocket. lol
Im a big fan of 3v but comparing it to s90 isnt right. 3v is one of the toughest steels out depending on heat treat at 58 hrc its only beat out by a few steels and at 60 its still very impressive while it increases wear resistance. However even at is best it has the same wear resistance as a well done s30, ways out if s90 league. 3v is know for its amazing toughness but its wear resistance is average. It still is obe of my favorite steels in a fixed blade or a overbuilt folder, but from many tests I found it wears like a good s30 or s35vn. Still impressive since s7 which is tougher than 3v has fairly poor wear resistance but you can chop through anything with it, its actually used in masonry bits.
I looove chunky over built knives and this is awesome, the pocket clip is insane, great vid Jim, btw, its your knife tread it as you want not as some other ass says, Once a Troll always a Troll ie dh1671, you can hear the steam blowing out of his ears, jealous me thinks because he hasn't designed a knife and produced one like this
He uses it as hard as an EDC knife is to be used. He cuts straps, zip ties, cardboard boxes and everything else. He doesn't put them in cases and never use them. He uses them.
looks awesome but... ill stick with a 50$ spyderco. Just not into having a drawer full of mega expensive items that ill never use and only enjoy once in awhile simply by looking at it...
Jim Skelton god damn it Jim i have watched a few of your vid's mainly the ones with thumb nails that catch my eye... bangle tactical comes to mind. but now you have done it! i have never wanted a knife soooo badly in my life. which isn't a bad thing but i live in Australia which now has a total ban on importing most knives. SHAME ON YOU
Interesting beast of a knife. HOWEVER, when I found the below statements on his website, there is no way I'll spend my hard-earned money on something that is just a guessing game: _"NOTE: All sizes and Specs may vary in thickness and length. Handle materials may vary due to availability."_ This is like buying a car and they change the wheel rims, paint, and dash after specifying on the listing (with photos) what you were buying. Sorry...nope.
+willmoon & +alanaragon as a true knife lover i must say i think this knife is nearly flawless though i would tweak it some myself. but seeing as he is a fixed knife maker i think he still captures what true knife purest loves. not like a bodega (ass sprayer with ga on the end) that looks like a bmw driving yuppie would own. and for all that money still looks like a thin plastic handled pos that might snap if used for anything other than bragging about. this knife is manly and useable not artsy and impracticle.
Will. All I can say is...Damn Homie!! Wtf? Opinions are good to put out there but U went a little far Bro. Hard use? With that early lock-up? HA! Give that thing a good spine whack and see what happens... Also, how can you give a fair and honest review if you "don't carry a knife until you've done its video?"
I'm not referring to the Cold Steel tests. I agree, though, that they are rigged--I had a lengthy argument with with the Cold Steel youtube channel about how those tests are do not accurately show lock strength. The salt from the angry fanboys was pathetic, but I shouldn't have expected better from them. My only concern with this knife is how silly early the lockup is. Optimal lockup on a titanium frame lock should be 25-50% new, allowed for both enough contact to create a solid engagement and to allow for break-in over time.
***** Good point. I suppose for a custom knife, that's true. I tend to be weary of semi-custom or mass produced knives with lockup that early because in my experience, there's a lot of slip. As far as I know though, carburizing does more to prevent wear than it does to ensure tight lock-up.
Thank you Jim for the great video and the kind words. I am glad you're enjoying the knife.
Can't wait to get mine even more now Ramon...damn you Jim! :D
Ramon Chavez,
That is a fantastic knife sir, that blade is wonderfully gargantuan!
The 229 Redencion is currently the most talked about most coveted knife around. Riate really executed your vision. The blade is symmetrical excellence. Congratulations.
Mike Tube
I'm getting my first Chaves ever, it's a Ultramar Rendencion in two days. After watching this, it makes me want it even more. Thanks!
Man i am falling in love with Chaves knives. How can you not love that pocket clip and overall beefiness.
I was there when Jim took possession of this monster. Ramon makes one fine knife! Thanks for showing it Jim. I hope to get one of these beauties!!!
Jim, your channel has the absolute highest quality of knives. Love it since your channel is the only one that I know of reviewing knives of this quality and the reviews are top notch. Fantastic work.
Can't wait for #16!!!
Hey Ramon, don't forget mine is exactly like this one :-)
Not only is it a tank. But it is a stylish and overbuilt tank of a knife. Do use and enjoy that beastly blade. Excellent vid.
:-)
I cant stop looking at this knife. I love every aspect of this knife and I must have it
Jim, I can not wait to get mine! For Ramon's first folder he hit it out of the park for sure. Congrats big time on this one brother! Thanks for sharing too! #supermoist
Awesome knife! The mirror polish on the sides of the pocket clip is pure genius! I love how thick the blade is. Great video keep up the great work
Sweet knife Jim, I have 2 of Ramone's kickstops and i LOVE his work...one is the tanto which I had lighting annoed and the other is the stone washed drop point.
My hard use "dream knife" is a custom Andrew Demco with his tri-ad lock in all titanium...That is cool though! Don't hurt it too bad ;)
The pocket clip is jaw dropping.
I have #133. Hands down my favorite knife. Love the skull pocket clip. I'm not even a skull guy but this clip and knife just go together. I have had multiple offers on it. Not for sale haha!
Very nice! On the list and waiting patiently.....
Are these available anywhere or does he still make this version? I know that reate makes them bit I would rather have this version.
I'm not a fan of skulls either. However I can't WAIT to get one of those in my pocket. I'll proudly display that skull and tell everyone what it is and who made it. You where certainly on the money predicting the future popularity of these 👍

7 years later and Mrs blow still sounds hilarious 😂
Well I am super excited about owning one of these. Wishing I'd signed up for two of them.
I absolutely love this knife. I think it is awesome I love the knives that are built like tanks. would love to have one just like that.
Hey Jim could you possibly try and get a three sisters forge beast for a guest blade? I might get one in the next few months and want an expert review on it.
Thanks, and great video
Have to say that I want one of these Jim!! Good review
I want that knife. The knives at the website look different from this one yet they have the same name. What should I do?
love to see this in a flipper version.
Thats such a beautiful knife!
Would you get mad if I configured my Redencion exactly the same as yours? lol
Followed your channel for some time now wolud love to see a video
of your complete collection and specialy how you store your knives.
How much are these normally without customizing
love watching your videos while high really helps me understand the hardwork and labor put in @JimSkelton
I screwed up not getting on the most recent 228 list, had a chance but was broke at the time and opted out. I've been kicking myself in the ass over it ever since. I hope I'll be able to get one of Ramon's knives eventually otherwise I'll never get over it.
Skull Pocket Clip: brought to you by Fifth-Grader-in-the-90s Design Studio
+Shawn Byron Beckett ... who has sold more than you could count, so it's clear that many people like it, and he's done exceedingly well for himself.
All true statements. Though skull motifs, in my opinion, look a little cheesy on high-end gear. Like putting flame decals on a Ferrari. Not knocking the knife at all-looks like a very high quality collectors' piece at a midtech price.
+Shawn Byron Beckett Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
+sferrin2 I agree , I happen to love the skull clip
+sferrin2 I agree , I happen to love the skull clip. It looks great and definitely adds to the knife that is basically kind of plain looking which I really like.
Awsm Dezine Eye Mr. Jim. Looks RAD.
Gorgeous Blade.
That is completely awesome

What's the price on something like this?
Love the vid Jim, Thanks. The knife is very nice. Kind of plain looking until
you turned it over. Great top of the clip, bottom not so much to wide for my taste. Bet that clip holds well though. Thanks Jim. Mike
Jim, are there any reviews that you do that you're NOT excited about? If so, I don't wanna know about them :-) Thanks for the great reviews!!!
that is an awesome knife, congrats man
Damn. That is a bad ass. Knife. I love it. Everything about it its just awesome. How much does that knife cost??
Wow, really nice knife.
What an awesome looking knife. JR reeeaaallly did you a solid haha
Jim, the two fasteners on the clip. It would be sick if they were changed out to a low profile, but raised type that would look like two horns on the skull head! Great vid!
Can anyone tell me what the small pinpoint holes near the pivot and on the top of the lockbar are for?
The ones near the pivot are probably the stop pin, the one on the lock bar is where the detent ball is.
Great overview of a truly awesome knife Jim, congrats. There were actually 11 protos. Ramons knife is #0. JR has #1 I have #2 and so on. -Chris

Ahh man the new offering from Todd Begg the black/gold Bodega really turns my crank. Please review one Jim, I can't imagine you don't have one in your pocket. lol
how much did that cost?
When you put it next to the Bodega, it looked like student work. Just my opinion, of course.
instant grail knife! awesome
The pocket clip is awesome
i love the thick blade!
My God its Excalibur's baby!
Would be cool to mirror polish the inside of the eye cutouts. That would look awesome. Do it
Will Moon's comments have disappeared.
Nice review !
That knife is probably worth a fortune now
Best knife maker out there imo. Not a fan of “fancy” or “pretty” knives. Big beefy hard use/weapon is where it’s at. Chaves > everything else.
I do think it-s not 20 $ ... By the way the chavesknives page is suspended ...
Is that knife for sale :D
I love that knife and u do great work
Off topic a lil can u do a vid on ur watch
How much did you end up paying for this?
Im a big fan of 3v but comparing it to s90 isnt right. 3v is one of the toughest steels out depending on heat treat at 58 hrc its only beat out by a few steels and at 60 its still very impressive while it increases wear resistance. very very nice
Do you still consider this a knife of the year?
It's started the craze, now his mid techs are sold out.
Jim how much would you take for the chaves knife.
Great knife! But the price is mind blowing!!!

That knife is built to be Used and Abused, Peace :-)
3 knives u own that I like
that is sick!
instant love!
Whatever can be rationalized to justify the price you pay works for you.
Love it
nice knife
looks awesome but... ill stick with a 50$ spyderco. Just not into having a drawer full of mega expensive items that ill never use and only enjoy once in awhile simply by looking at it...
Don't get me wrong, that's a badass knife! But for a "hard use" knife I would rather use somthing like a recon 1 instead of my custom folder.
If i could id just buy that pocket clip Jim
Damn that knife is sexy
If you want to see a tank of a knife take a look at the Extrema Ratio Fulcrum 2 or RAO. Both of those are monsters.
I've owned two Extrema Ratios. Nice knives, but they're not on this level.
Jim Skelton
Yeah they are made more for military and very hard abuse situations.
Jim Skelton
god damn it Jim i have watched a few of your vid's mainly the ones with thumb nails that catch my eye... bangle tactical comes to mind. but now you have done it! i have never wanted a knife soooo badly in my life. which isn't a bad thing but i live in Australia which now has a total ban on importing most knives. SHAME ON YOU
Interesting beast of a knife. HOWEVER, when I found the below statements on his website, there is no way I'll spend my hard-earned money on something that is just a guessing game:
_"NOTE: All sizes and Specs may vary in thickness and length. Handle materials may vary due to availability."_
This is like buying a car and they change the wheel rims, paint, and dash after specifying on the listing (with photos) what you were buying. Sorry...nope.
Dude it’s a custom knife they are never going to all be the same.
😍
+willmoon & +alanaragon as a true knife lover i must say i think this knife is nearly flawless though i would tweak it some myself. but seeing as he is a fixed knife maker i think he still captures what true knife purest loves. not like a bodega (ass sprayer with ga on the end) that looks like a bmw driving yuppie would own. and for all that money still looks like a thin plastic handled pos that might snap if used for anything other than bragging about. this knife is manly and useable not artsy and impracticle.
1:40, best part ;) i hope that wasn't scripted xD
wow!
Weird design lock bar face IMO.
You make Leonard Cohen sound like a little girl.
Mrs. Blow :'D

Being able to afford custom knives is great. But .... Hard use? Your videos are not believable.
NIce knife, the owner not so much........................
Duck billed skeleton
Hard use? With that early lock-up? HA! Give that thing a good spine whack and see what happens...
Also, how can you give a fair and honest review if you "don't carry a knife until you've done its video?"
