@Richard Dixon I don't think it's reality but we shouldn't pretend that it is and this war on poor people needs to stop. I'm disabled and am just now hoping to be able to work in a sheltered warehouse specifically for disabled people. You get paid per piece so I may or may not make minimum wage it depends on how fast I will be able to do my job. And their are opportunities for some people to work in the community as a cashier or bagger at a grocery store or doing something at a fast food restaurant. It is my reality and people shouldn't assume it's from lack of trying or lack of character. I think that's why I've always liked Chelsea and also one big happy life they realize not everyone starts on the same footing.
@Richard Dixon Do you know why the USSR invaded as many countries as it could after WW II? It had to create trading partners because the world HATED them for what they did. The centralized collectivized planning for agriculture, for example, was done by bureaucrats who weren't farmers which resulted in 3 major famines after the revolution with the aid of natural disasters, war and political upheavals (the Ukraine was specifically targeted by Stalin because it was asserting its national identity because it didn't want to join the USSR deliberately creating the 1932-33 Holodomor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Droughts_and_famines_in_Russia_and_the_Soviet_Union). The land was doled out back to the farmers and they traded on the market as normally. What sticks in your ass is the fact that the aristocracy and wealthy bourgeoisie had their mansions, businesses, and stately dachas taken from them- but that ISN'T the whole story. Imperial Russia was the last autocracy on the planet, it had no parliament like the other monarchies whose kingdoms were breaking up and losing power, all orders and policies literally came from the Tsar. And Nicholas II was an incompetent Tsar who had little interaction with the rest of the world- much like the rest of the Russian aristocracy. During WW I, the 4 princesses were volunteering as nurses and found themselves traveling with their ladies in waiting in St. Petersburg to buy supplies. They literally didn't know how to conduct themselves in stores and it was considered poor taste for royalty to carry money. When Nicholas II ceded some power to create the Russian parliament (the Duma) his ministers were no better than him, all of them inept aristocratic sycophants. There was also endemic corruption in Imperial Russian society because of the abject poverty in both rural and urban areas. When you live in a feudalistic society where you're taught that the Tsar is next to god, literacy and healthcare are poor for the working and peasant classes, you'll have a lot of palms being greased, this continued into the Soviet era and has only gotten worse after 1991. Let me tell you something, I live in Alabama, and I don't qualify for Medicaid because I earn more than $193 a month --that is the actual cutoff, where you are considered too 'well off' for Medicaid. If I break my arm I can go to the e.r. and they would give me a cast, but if I develop any kind of illness requiring long-term treatment, I just won't get it. If it's cancer, I will just die.
