The wee creature made tiny cricket noises! It appears the person who was playing with it is so very gentle & didn't seem to mind being gnawed on. SUCH A SWEET CRITTER!!!
For all of you saying this little guy doesn't like his owner... That seems unlikely. The moment he called for it, the little guy came running right up! And the monkey never actually bit him hard, he looked like he was playing.
Also another thing: When these little guys chirp, it means they're happy... this little dude was chirping all the time, and climbing on it's owner's hands WHILE chirping. He's fine you guys!
Pygmy marmosets are native to Amazonia, South America. This one has apparently been smuggled to Asia. They are wonderful little primates, but they belong in the rainforest, not in someone's appartment in Japan.
do YOU know how marmosets behave in general? These aren't domesticated animals, these are wild animals possibly poached and sold for lots of money. People buy them just because they're cute and don't really know how to take care of them especially in later years when they get older and more aggressive. These are not cats and dogs, people.
As a zoologist at the San Diego Zoo, this is somewhat false. Even though it comes from the order of Primates, it has a lot more characteristics to it than a standard "monkey" would. This is essentially the guinea pig of the Primate family and enjoys human companionship. It's not very bright due to being so small and it loves to be touched. The young ones are very rambunctious (which this one seems to be) and that's where the biting comes in to play. The nibbling you see here is playful.
This marmoset was bought, not under rehabilitation. And I'm sure you watch animal documentaries. Animals like these much enjoy interacting with their own kind rather than being a pet despite that you make everything convenient for them. Marmosets live in group, they socialize with ranks and such on trees.
My favorite marmoset owner on UA-cam has both a male and a female and he will let them have babies when they get older. That way he will get some "free" monkeys to build his family with.
Another thing springs to mind. Marmosets probably see us a giant hairless marmosets. Just as dogs see us as pack in theory we are more closely related to marmoset then a bloody dog.
It wasn't intended to offend anyone, however the animal does not seem to appreciate the attention it received from its owner. Generally, it doesn't seem as if wild creatures care much for human attention, and this marmoset seems like it doesn't appreciate human contact even if it doesn't flee. (It probably doesn't flee because it knows it can't)
***** When does the marmoset look the most smitten? When it bites him (ie. every freaking time it gets touched), or when it shifts is head back and forth as if it was looking for an escape?
I Googled 'pygmy marmoset bites', and found this article, which made owning one seem like an even worse thing than I initially thought. "When a baby pygmy marmoset is taken away from the family it can often die quickly due to depression. Pet pygmy marmosets can take a grave dislike towards their owners and some have been known to bite their owners and throw feces at them, as a form of attack." a-z-animals.com/animals/pygmy-marmoset/
lol man, come down guys For the first thing, I don't believe anyone of you has the keen sense of reading animal faces. (that's including me) Although I believe this marmoset is enjoying he's time with he'w owner, I think the owner is handling him wrong... He's covering the marmosets whole body with one hand Imaging yourself being pat by a giant that's like 100 times bigger than you Even if you know the guy pretty well, it'll be kind of terrifying The best way to touch him, is to touch he's chin from below If he runs away, stop and also, dont pat animal from behind
***** no, not all animals respond to human affection. That's why certain animals are better as pets than others, even when they're not dangerous. This is probably about as friendly as pygmy marmosets get. I doubt it's mistreated, it's just not a companion animal. Cats, dogs, ferrets etc are known to love their people and return the affection they receive, which is one reason why they've historically been kept as pets. You can't just take any animal out of its environment, give it food and human affection (which it probably won't even understand), and expect it to be healthy and friendly.
Even though it is extremely cute, and I would love to interact with them, my heart of heart knows that it's not right that we take these and other beautiful animals away from their natural habitat, just to quench our emotions. The best place for this little species is back in south America, running wild and free from human interference, with his troop. Please people, don't encourage the exotic pet trade by purchasing one. If you're smart enough, you'll think twice before you do.
Humans are most imporant, as long as you care about animals they are ok. Good we didn't have pussies like you 100 k years ago otherwise we would never have domesticated wolfs (dogs), cows, horses and other animals because "muh feefees, animulz have better life in wild jungle eaten by snek" :p
Yes, Drewie. Of course they can be pets. My indigenous friends in the Amazon region of Ecuador have them as pets, but my point is that they are better off in the tropics where they are from, and not living in a city apartment. My friends in Ecuador let them run free. They are wonderful primates, and I love them, but I prefer they stay close to home.
Everybody needs to get a grip here marmosets like other primates are very social animals. This kind of biting is only playful. Once upon a time dogs and cats were not domesticated. If you buy a marmoset from a well represented breeder you should be fine. Dogs in fact are mostly breed in puppy mills yet were all quite happy to buy and continue to breed dogs which are often cruelly breed just for pet shops. No one bats a damn eye lid. Most pet dogs end up in kill shelters or abandon. Yet everyone still wants puppies. No one cares about that, yet this marmoset oh on suddenly it's a crime. If we choose wisely were are animal companies come from, it should not matter. Despite the fact that dogs are domesticated for years they still bite playfully and still at times attack there owners and mule children to death, get abused, mistreated, put down, even tortured. No matter what animal companion we live with be it a dog, cat, rabbit or marmoset. There can be problems, trouble, worries. We as humans have to understand the nature of any animal we choose to live with. It's perfectly fine to take a puppy or kitten away from mom but not a marmoset? Oh and don't even get me started on the food industry. Most of us will eat a animal that has been tortured, torn away from its mother, abused, suffering, injured, diseased etc yet giving s marmoset a home is inhumane?
Non-domesticated animals don't belong in a house. Exotic animals shouldn't be kept as pets, and I am not gonna bother listing the numerous reasons why, but monkeys aren't the same as cats and dogs (that have been domesticated over a LONG time)
That's a beautiful creature. And it belongs in its natural habitat. If you love it, support its habitat. Please do not pet them. Do not punish them by bringing them out of its natural dwelling.
This little guy was probably injured or otherwise unfit to live in the wild, possibly from a zoo breeding program where he accidentally became too dependent on human contact.
honestly..,i doubt its been studied..but that sound he makes resembles the sonar that bats use..I wonder if hes using that to sense his environment as well? "OFF to google.." see ya guys!
Marmosets make lovely pets they just require a lot of attention or a mate. He should however had trained it not to bite later on it will develop into a big problem that cannot be solved
Bubbles does have an affectionate side! Looks like he is trying to get you to do some social grooming. Have you ever tried to bath him? Does he go places with you?
+Summer How do you know? If it truly did not want him petting it then it would run away and then stay away from his reach...marmosets arent little passive creatures..they definitely let you know if they do not like something you are doing. This one is a younger one and therefore they tend to chew...a lot! It has nothing to do with disliking his touch.
+Alex Jolly Umm..nope...this monkey was not plucked from South America and exported to another country to be a pet..highly illegal and it is not usually done that way. Why would they do that when it can be obtained from the local pet store right up the road (assuming the guy is in Japan) or from the local breeder (for people in the US). They are never plucked from the wild to be a pet. These animals have been bred for many, many generations by humans, have grown up being handled by humans and could not and would not survive for one second in the wilds of South America. It would most definitely be one thing if they were being obtained from the wild directly but they are not....the ones used in labs (extensively for many years) and the ones that are pets are pretty far removed from the wilds of South America my dear. So either you need to do a little more research because your info is incorrect or you already knew that and said it because it sounded nice and dramatic for your "cause" which is obviously a stance against primates being kept as pets. The problem with the latter is when you say things that sound good at the time hoping to turn people and then they find out that what you said is incorrect then it only turns more people against you and in addition your cause. Better off to just find out the facts and stick with them..if the facts do not support your crusade then maybe it is time to change sides
+Gina Powell The animal is illegal in most Asian countries so the only way to get them is to import them mashable.com/2016/02/11/pygmy-marmoset-pet/#k.aYX88Uckqh Don't accuse me of not doing research when you make claims and have nothing to back them up.

Very cute and little.
I’ve seen Pygmy marmosets in the zoo. They’re so tiny you could hardly see them among the branches and leaves. They’re super cute.
So cut 😊
I love watching you pet it with your thumb. Is it soft?
OMG!! I have just died from extreme cuteness!
"Why would you approach me with no noms? I bite your finger for this!"

How long do they live. Can you have them as pets, just curious.
You can only keep them if you're a rehabber or caretaker of animals unfit to survive in the wild.

aaw how cute. I've ALWAYS wanted a pygmy marmoset

How can you aquire a Marmoset?
I'm pretty sure that he is biting him because he's playing around, if he was really bothered he would be running off and really hurting the guy.
I'm surprised at all the people here in the comment section who can apparently read marmoset minds. That's incredible!
so? dogs were wild animals too, now most of them are domesticated. its life.
can the marmoset to be bought from anywhere
Is that the marmoset making the noises or a bird??

I can not find a video it shows what they can do if they have training. ...bipedal walking and things like that.....or are they complete useless? ??

Chris Dorris is right.. This is an adult btw
I don't think it's bothered by his hand or the monkey would just walk away... Why would it walk to him if it didn't like him?
Imagine if we had never done that to dogs or cats....where would they be now?
Are they legal as pets in the USA? :D
Damn, now how many times did he bite you?🙄 I really think your pet doesn't like you. He could be mad at you.
