Draconfound I know right. You have to be overly dramatic or expressive (e.g. Use emojis) for most people to know that you're not being passive aggressive or something. It's annoying. Doesn't proper punctuation mean anything anymore? Not in text messages, it seems...
You can't get more passive-aggressive than a smiley face. -I told Dave to come to dinner tonight. - :) - Could you get some milk? _ :) -- I love you - :)
lol, when I am a bit ticked off, I used the multiple full stops. For example; Person: "Can you please get me some milk on the way home?" Me: "Sure......."
+hasher22 haha same. It's like ... gives them time to contemplate why they asked you that, and time to reconsider and offer themselves, or be extra grateful.
Why don't people like talking on the phone anymore? I don't like texting because there can be a lot of miscommunication and talking to an actual person is more fun but that's just me
+ill vanilla Because talking on the phone interrupts me and keeps me from doing what I'm currently doing. When a text message comes in, I can ignore it until I'm done with my work and have time for it. I hesitate to call people because I don't want to interrupt them.
One technique I like to use is the "Passive Aggressive Text Resend." If I text someone a question and they don't respond, I copy the previous message and resend it. It works like a charm :D
+icthruwalls nope me too. Actually there are way to many conversations going on with txt - and I feel texting is not so reliable. I prefer calling aswell.
it's depend on the person & the time. sometimes I'm not in the mood to talk but texting is fine in other times I wanna have long conversation & texting is not helpful for that.
Well you both have your points. But sometimes when it's a real conversation, not just making appointments and getting/giving updates I find texting frustrating. Especially if there is a time difference of 12 hrs. Two of my best friends live in Australia and I am in Germany. I'd rather have a Skype date on the weekend than conversation in 12 hrs rhythm.
Some people just don't like talking at all, like myself. But what's worse is when you are texting and they don't text back. I might as well talk to them on the phone and get the conversation over with quicker, ha ha
haha vice versa, in the end the same thing though. I just get annoyed hat having too many conversations going at the same time, sometimes 20, plus all the mails etc. It's just is more time consuming going back and forht for things that can be cleared within 1 minute phone call.. I do enjoy texting with my friend far away - as long as they don't want a full deep conversation about their wedding plans, cause I got people sitting in front of me. Then I'd rather have a skype or phone date.
Haha, this is so relatable. I had to change the way I text because I used to use “ok.” as a quick, affirmative acknowledgement when I was busy or if I just felt that a text didn’t require any more than that. Then I found out that my boyfriend never really knew how to take it and he felt that it made me sound annoyed or like it was the equivalent of “fine”, so now he gets a thumbs-up emoji and all is right with the world.
So you're saying: "Hey why don't you buy enough milk to support me on my days off? So now you need to pick up some more on the way home." is not an appropriate comment?
I totally get it, and it’s fascinating for example the difference between “yep” and “yup”. I’m not even a native english speaker, but I understand that “yup” has an unhappy subtext to it. But I can't explain why! It might be that E is a happy letter and U is a sad one.
With me if I text "k" everything is good and well, if I text "next time I see you I'm going to beat you up because I hate you" it means things are not so good between us
doesn't get more passive aggressive than this BF: Can I go out with the guys tonight? GF: Have fun! vs BF: Can I go out with the guys tonight? GF: Have fun.
LOL so true! That's why I always use smileys and exclamation points, and end my sentences with an 'lol' ahaha. I hate passive-aggressive looking texts lol
+Chelsie D lmao sorry sorry I couldn't help myself but reply with the most ridiculously rude out of nowhere interjection haha (gave myself a laugh at least : p )
as a general rule "k" is very lazy and interpreted as "this person doesn't care enough to give a thoughtful response". Regardless if they tell you or not it almost for sure will annoy whoever you send it to.
so your calling me lazy because I send "k"? I work 80 hours a week, at 2 jobs. Take care of and drive my blind husband 2 hours 1 way each week to his doctors appointments. Have to take care of my entire house and pay all the bills by myself because my husband can't. Yet I'm lazy? Really? Do you know me?
I say yep and yup all the time. It's when I'm being my most friendly towards someone. If anyone tends to read into texts messages this deeply I would suggest just picking up the phone and calling them
I always use periods in my messages without meaning anything by it except just finishing a sentence, but my friends always think that I'm mad at them when I do. 😂
I never knew about "yup". I prefer to be grammatically correct, and use punctuation all the time. But then I use excessive smiley-face emojis. Oh, yes. I agree about calls. That's so me. 😂
I used to use proper punctuation in all of my texts... everyone assumed I hated them
Draconfound I know right. You have to be overly dramatic or expressive (e.g. Use emojis) for most people to know that you're not being passive aggressive or something. It's annoying. Doesn't proper punctuation mean anything anymore? Not in text messages, it seems...
Draconfound looool, same...
Draconfound Me too. Now I only punctuate in between sentences or when there is a ?, !, or ...
Ha.
What may be considered proper in school, is not proper it text messages. In texting there's a set of totally separate rules.

+Joshua Walker Yup.
+OptimistHunter Reel Me too! :O

Yup is so much less passive aggressive than "Yup."
+anthony But I don't think its more passive aggressive than k.
just adding a period is super passive aggressive
But ... punctuation :(
Barkot Zemichael ok..
Macey Clarke Yup.
.
Barkot Zemichael adding a period to a one word reply like okay, no, yup, etc, is passive aggressive
My favourite emoji for passive aggressiveness: 🙂
That’s such a good one 🙃

Sure🙂
Hmm :v
why be passive aggressive though 😭
This feels like your dad trying to explain "selfies" to you... it's just plain wrong 😂 😂

I hate people who always write .........
My passive aggressive go to is "Fine."
If I'm really upset I may put "...fine." That way, it adds a pause to show my discontent.

+Michael Boles hahaha He really is a total untalented bore isn't he.
It's kinda sad how accurate this is, it's also sad that "passive aggressive texting" is a thing
Haha, this is so relatable. I had to change the way I text because I used to use “ok.” as a quick, affirmative acknowledgement when I was busy or if I just felt that a text didn’t require any more than that. Jimmy's punchline about phone calls being annoying nowadays was perfect, haha!
If I have seen this video a couple years sooner, my life could have been drastically different.
Relationship is so next level
One of the very few videos of Jimmy kimmle that actually made me laugh out loud👏🏼👏🏼
k, jimmy.
Ha.
How about: "Naaah..." 😂
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
lol adults and kids clearly text differently... i disagreed with like all of his explanations
Courtney Mesona I agreed with every single on them ... guess that's because I'm underage?
Courtney Mesona same, and he missed the obvious one "fine"
Yeah
2:40 "if they did you would fight them"
im dying.
"Haha." with a period, vs "Haha" no period is a tragedy as well
my favorite passive aggressive emojis: 😊😃🙂🙃😶
I've been in bed for 3 hours watching all his videos it's 3am and I have school tomorrow 😥
This is brilliant! We ALL need to learn about this. Ignorance is no excuse.
Just use emoji instead 🙃
That yup and yep is so truuueeeeeeee 😂
I just use "no" or in some cases, "lmao no."
"Nobody likes phone calls anymore it's annoying" so relatable hahaha
Or "yeah....." or "OK........."
I have a lot of friends that need to watch this video.
lol means it's kind of funny but I'm not actually laughing. Lmao means I actually laughed a little upon reading the text.

as a general rule "k" is very lazy and interpreted as "this person doesn't care enough to give a thoughtful response".
- Hey mate I'm sorry I'm late I'm coming
- "Uh huh."
I think when someone says Ya instead of Yeah or Love you to. Instead of I love you too. Is the worse lol
Nicholas Stevens I wouldn't say ya is too bad, Just" you too "would be
The worst is just a "thumbs up". It's like a socially acceptable way to tell someone to shut up.
I don't agree with yup being passive aggressive at all. To me it's easy going
This is true, especially 'ha' and 'k' responses. Damn Jimmy
You forgot about "..." at the end of the message!

Passive Aggressive Emoji for Gen Z: 👍
old man yells at cloud
At least they aren't like my grandma's texts. She always uses the ... after every sentence.

I've always had this problem with text messaging. A comma, in the wrong spot or no comma can change EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I really hate when my phone rang.
But the more my chat notification numbers, the more exciting I'll be.
I always use periods in my messages without meaning anything by it except just finishing a sentence, but my friends always think that I'm mad at them when I do. 😂
"Sure!" comes off as more passive aggressive to me than "Sure." Its like "Sure! Why dont you bring my mom, your uncle and the local PTA too?"
I subscribed because Jimmy Kimmel was waiting for me to do so, at the end of this video
I never knew about "yup".
I prefer to be grammatically correct, and use punctuation all the time. But then I use excessive smiley-face emojis.
Oh, yes. I agree about calls. That's so me. 😂
The most passive aggressive text is the "I guess" reply
I think texting "fine" should be added to the passive aggressive list
