Mitochondria organelles contain their own genome, it's likely descended from a far flung ancestor of ricketts bacteria that adapted to a symbiotic relationship in animal cells. I'd be interested in finding out if mitochondria could be replaced or augmented with synthetic organelle to serve the same function more efficiently.
Yes but the whole point of this is research. It's a start, thats how most things we have today in science and Tech came to be. From research and study.

If not, is it possible to introduce the powerhouse of the cell into the synthetic cell?
Then what happens if extracellular ATP signaling is induced? Are there surrounding cells that express p2x or p2y receptors?
