    I worked for Prairie road here in Canada a few times, learnt a lot. I never worked for the original owner (Ron) directly but have heard countless stories of him. Apparently very good with dirt and didn’t put up with shit at all. We need more Ron in the world.

    I've seen this critter on U-tube. A horse of a different color. Lots of power and doesn't seem to spin tires. I think it was drying or mixing dirt. From the front it looks like a scraper. From the side it looks like a blade.

    If you like wild creations like this you should get one of R. G. Letourneau books. He built the first rubber tire pan, a Tournapull. Lots of his early creations were electric drive and had electric operated actuators.

      Two great inventive minds which were very influential were Robert G. Letourneau and Charles Kettering. Nothing is our education systems teaches young people about people like this and the things they do, instead we learn about some philosophy that says people came from monkeys. Many people have never heard of Daniel Best and Benjamin Holt - the two company founders that combined to make Caterpillar.

    • @infoanorexic
      @infoanorexic 5 років тому

      I'd heard a story that basically amounted to "Letourneau hated hydraulics." The other part of it was that his son was fascinated with them, and would do research projects on the sly ... and daddy always caught him at it.

      The 24's were made for maintaining haul roads for open pit mine's and I'm sure that's what the 25's used for too so I'd think that there's a demand for them just not a big demand because there's only so many of those large mines in operation.

    Hi, Folks.
    This 'scrader', built by Brent Engineering, was originally posted by SoCalEarthmovers under the name, "S18G".
    ua-cam.com/video/eeJ7ZG4GFVc/v-deo.html
    Brent Engineering also built the 25M grader:

    And the D57T scraper:

    That excavator trailer looked like a bear to get into and out of tight spots with! Wouldn't a scrader have a lot more horses than a typical grader? Kind of hard to watch your moldboard though I would think.

    • @markfryer9880
      @markfryer9880 5 років тому +1

      That whole set up had way too many wheels and articulated points to be anything but a nightmare. Was there any escort vehicle with the units?

    • @markfryer9880
      @markfryer9880 5 років тому +1

      I agree with your comment about being able to watch the mold board, but it's not really the sort of machine for detail work and lots of machines are not good for an operator's neck or body for that matter.

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 5 років тому +1

      Don't know how they would have done it 40yrs ago, but today you could have numerous cameras watching the area the moldboard covers, and a monitor in the cab.

    So how would the 24M or 25M stand up to a Champion 80T or even the Champion 100T ?

    • @13eckerlosmuerte
      @13eckerlosmuerte 5 років тому +1

      Not a chance, different machines with different appatites for dirt. Champions are slower more powerful, but it takes a hell of a crew to move and assemble them and ensure they are in working order, while the 24 and 25 are quicker yet they are more manageable. The champions are more large highway, massive industrial sites, while the cats can be put in places where champions just don't fit into the project.
