Really enjoyed watching. Congrats to both of them. This also makes it clear that we, as a country, need to invest in more and safer infrastructure for cyclists and walkers and runners. We can and should do better. Not only would it make it safer for cyclists but it would encourage more people to leave their cars at home and ride a bike or take a walk. Thank you for this video.
Wonderful. I enjoyed watching the riders; enjoyed the silly dog ears, and hearing the joy the ladies felt. I'm pleased they didn't minimize their discomfort and fear. Some drivers are jerks. And then there are the 6-10 inch road shoulders. They prepped well, listened to each other and did great. 🚲 Nice episode, Oregon Field Guide! Nice ride, ladies and pup!🚵🚴
The intimacy with the environment while riding a bike is both exhilarating and refreshing at the same time. Thank you PBS for a wonderful ride. ps. Wonderful audio-video work.
This is a story that has stayed with me in my life. I tell my family about there story and how it was kinda scary for some points but they made it threw
This woman felt so unsafe that she wanted to stop riding. This just highlights how our car-centric culture has failed us. Hopefully we can do better in the years and decades to come. Thanks for the video.
Adding lanes for light traffic should be a priority. Sure it costs some money but if every place is reachable by walking or with a bike people will use those methods a lot and then you save on environmental damage and healthcare costs on the other side of the equation (plus you will live in a lot better place).
Great story and super relatable for those who enjoy travel by bike! I like the contrast between on road/off road touring. Experiences like what they had on the road are definitely what pushed me into doing more off road travel.
Lovely video! It caught my eye due to the little dog as my own little dog absolutely loves riding in the front basket and leaving home on the bike without her now is unthinkable. Glad you got all the way to the coast even if some of those drivers were thoughtless, a great little adventure :)
at 9:15 you can see the cars pulling out. In Germany, they would drive extra close to the right-hand side of the road to show cyclists that they are undesirable. I think the Americans are simply more tolerant and I'm happy to see that.
The best safety equipment you can have when bikepacking on the road where there are cars trucks Etc bright clothing lots of Lights and I actually have a bright bike flag sticking out of my rear pannier on the roadside Aizen additional alert two traffic coming up behind me towards me.
Wow what a trip U2 are inspiring I'd like to do up the coast but there is the problem with the traffic did you too ride your bikes on the beach up to Netarts Bay? You can do it on the wet sand with your road bikes.
Why didn't they just ride to the coast..? why take the MAX..? they could have taken hwy10 to hwy 8 to hwy 6 to get from Portland to Tillamook (a 90 mile ride each direction). or taken hwy 30 from portland to astoria...
could really do without the dog: it ads nothing to the story of these two lovely ladies and all it is is an abused dog; short little legs walking after bikes at velocity. dog lovers have no shame, polluting nature with their dogs. LNT; leave the dog at the pound.
Wonderful story. Need more safe infrastructure on our roads.

Y’all are amazing! I loved watching this. Inspired me to take on the gravel ride!
I did Portland to Newport in two days first time ever and that was the beginning of my bike addiction lol
“No perfect route…”
Well said.
These ladies have such a wonderful way with expressing their feelings. I feel like I was right there with you two, three (🐕).
awesome ride ladies!!
Super! We really enjoyed your ride. The photographers did a fine job.
This is so cool and wonderfully shot. I really appreciate the narrative arc of hardship and elation.
I'd love to bike to the coast
What an amazing journey together.

Medium Rick Agree with you. 100%.
You almost want a protected or separated route, as there are some drivers that think only *they* should be present!
Nice! Thank you for sharing..
Good work, ladies! I'd love to tour at 15mph!
Fun stuff. Tucson has tons of bike paths. Very nice

just beautiful
What a great way to live!
Cool ladies.
Awesome !
It really does feel like such an accomplishment to go 70 miles from him all on the power of your body turning the pedals! No feeling like it!
Sweet Ride. Next time you get out to the Coast, look me up :)
I'm doing it. I live in Yamhill County so it'll be not as far and ill be on the Nestucca River access road. Lots of fresh new pavement. Yay!
More cycle paths and safer routes needed...worldwide...nice GT and Surly ☺️🤘🏻🇬🇧
Very cool, more Oregon field guide videos?
Hurray for logging and logging road builders!

Awesome bike hike! This state is known for bike use, and yet, there’s no safe lane on highways for them!

How do they go back ?
I ride dirtbikes through this, You can access with a car during hunting season.
Does anyone know if this trail is officially open this time of year? 1/20/21?
Did you ever find an answer? I'll be riding this in a few weeks, wondering what winter conditions are out there...
@@EvanCohan I haven’t heard from anyone...and I can’t find a good source with updated information, at least in the last 6 months.
Super cute p in basket
Has OFG done a story about recumbent tricycles?

Like they said in the video they wanted to write as much as possible without traffic
This is bike touring
