      Yes that's very true mate. I think it is the sheer size and presence that attracts a lot of new people to the hobby. It certainly was what did it for me when I first walked in to infiltration all those years ago.

      Evening, you did the right thing staying away from Padstow, it was horrendous!!! Fortunately we only walked in from the monument side a couple of times to use the facilities but certainly wouldn’t venture any further in. Crowds couldn’t spoil the magnificent beaches and costal walks so we still thoroughly enjoyed our break. I’m really looking forward to the Birmingham show so let me know what day you are going when you know as it would be great to say hello. Stay safe👍🐟🈲😊

      Hi Simon, you probably know this but you need concrete blocks for the pond walls, not breeze blocks. 7N dense concrete blocks are the ones you want.
      They are split face tiles on the outside, I got them from here

      @@DazzleKoi thanks Daz mate , it looks easy enough to do and Brian at AK is gonna scope it for me before I get my shovel out erm mechanical digger sorry !!!!! It’s gonna be triangular shape then elongated squares on the end of the points . It’s a small garden but my Mrs has agreed I can have a big lump of it she actually likes Koi too which is a bonus , eventually I try and source some Tamasaba once it’s built I probably Chuck a couple of Bristol Shubunkins in too I’m raising fry at the mo they are a spectacular fish it’s a shame they are so rare . A pal of mine who’s a goldfish breeder and one of the best in the north east us strengthening the bloodline at mo it’s be me too narrow .
      The pond will be predominantly koi but a few high end Bristols and Tamasaba will make great viewing from the pond window
      I love watching koi from above from the side not so however these pond windows are a great idea as I have learned for finding lost scales potential ulcers and allows the koi keeper to get on top quicker . Added bonus is watching a few high end fancies swimming with their big cousins
      I picked up some lovely koi mind a Chagoi which is Marusie is it ? And fish from Hiro ? All Tosai
      The gin rin Hi Utsuri are probably me faves stunning fish
      It’s probably the 10 years as a goldfish fancier in me anything black and gold hits the button.
      There is some nice fish I got
      Koi are definitely addictive I was just gonna rear Tosai till they got too big for my 800 gallon pond now we building a bigger pond
      You did say the bug will bite 😊😊😊
      Thanks again and enjoy the bank holiday 👍👍👍

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 роки тому

      Cheers mate, that sounds really cool. I do agree about windows, I was very much against them back in the day when they started to appear as koi are definitely best appreciated from above. I put mine in mainly for my new grandson to see the koi without needing to try to climb up the side. I wouldn't be without it now, as you say, its great for keeping an eye on them and I would even say its a must if you intend covering the pond in winter.

    Afternoon daz ,you know your bakki shower do you just use the infra media or do you put filter floss at the top which wat is best mate ? Oh and also have you noticed if your water is going yellow from the kano media mate

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 роки тому +1

      Hi mate, sorry for the delay in replying to you, I've been away on holiday. No mate, definitely no filter floss. That would just slow the water down. You want the velocity for a shower to work properly. If you use the correct ceramic medias they will consume some solid waste to so filter floss is a big no no.
      No yellow colour, no. Its ceramic so it cant dissolve. Still working brilliant, no nitrates at all since I started it up 👍👍👍

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Paddy, sorry for the delay in replying to you, I've been away on holiday.
      Those are very interesting questions and I'll be honest I don't know the answers. I've never thought about that before.
      I do know that the water is unheated so its at natural ambient temperature. Anyone taking koi to a show would stop feeding a week or so before the show (so they don't produce ammonia in the vats) and turn off any heating gradually so the koi are in ambient water.
      Regarding pH, I can only assume they run the vats somewhere quite neutral, around 7.5 maybe. And then gradually acclimatise koi over an hour or so if their in drastically different water.

    • @paddyhogan5773
      @paddyhogan5773 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for getting back to me, I've done a bit of researching and I THINK the water at the national show venue is soft, it would make sense, I think most hobbyists that show koi run a low pH, the regional shows pH would vary depending on location and the local koi keepers presumably would have a similar pH whether it low or high, in any case your videos are the most informative on youtube, anytime your visiting N.Wales your more than welcome to drop in.
      Cheers
