I have a lot of great memories of growing up in Union. I lived there until the summer of ‘99 when I was around twelve. Then my dad remarried with someone he met online who lived in South Florida (this was during the height of AOL - lol). He packed everything up and said “enough”. I still remember the long drive out of NJ down to Florida. We never looked back. That said, I’m just happy I got to experience the real Union from the early to mid 90s - back when it was mostly Italian and Irish families. I think a lot of those folks moved further south of Jersey or to other states. I’m not mad - cultures change; the populations change. Just glad I got to live THAT Union.
Union Center sure has changed A LOT over the years. Anyone here remember Jans? ……Hey Mike, can ya drive through Linden? Start at N Wood and Raritan, go all the way to Tremely then up Stiles to St George to Park ave to Brunswick which will put you near the 278/Goethals entrance.
I remember Jan’s. There was a bench outside the new Rite Aid with an inlay of Jan’s stain glass window. I found the glass on the ground. I stupidly turned it in to the Rite Aid. I wish I had thought to keep it.
@@larissatom6910 I remember going there as a kid after basketball games. Remember those ice-cream tubs we used to share? I loved the turkey dinners especially.
I lived right around the corner from Jans. It was HUGE. The size of a supermarket inside and the decor was very late 1960s with its red flocked velvet paisley wallpaper.
I really wish NJ could bury its powerlines. Too bad it would cost a fortune. I got used to that down south and now they standout to me. They dirty the view.
Asking Google how to get from here to Prudhoe Bay. It's only a 16-hour drive from my house. Preparations upon preparations with no gas station for hundreds of miles filled with overloaded monster trucks the public is discouraged to drive the unpaved narrow Hall road used continuously. Near mile 50 on the North Glenn highway you will see there are no need for traffic lights with traffic circles installed many places except the main highways. Often when I drive I feel like I'm driving in North Korea. Rush hour is filled with traffic and you got to go to the speed limit, other times you don't see another car. Those are my favorite times to drive. Talkeetna Alaska as seen on street view on Google Earth has the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge where I worked during the summer tourist season and all employees were happy and worked exceptionally providing services to the gas including free shuttle services the short walking distance to town and the wild and fast Susitna River. You might not make it here or there driving,. Let your fingers do the walking. As for the bridge where the traffic switches sides and everybody turns right no matter which direction you're going unless you're going straight through is Muldoon and the Glenn highway. I don't think Google has driven it yet. But there's skyview. Everywhere else pretender in your car and use street view, almost so close you might think you can touch it and you are because you're letting your fingers do the walking. Forget the yellow pages.
Union definitely changed, I was born and raised all my life. And on 20:10 the second house that’s grey was my home.
You must not be very old though. Those houses, including yours, were only built in the mid 1980s.
@@PlaceHandleHere I was born in ‘93 and moved out of the state in 2012
