Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico is Mexico's emerging wine region, and biggest provider of wine in the entire country, yet alone Baja California.
After spending the day in Ensenada (last episode: • ENSENADA, MEXICO Trave... ) tasting the incredible Fish Tacos, Seafood Tostadas and delicious Margaritas, we made the short drive to Valle de Guadalupe. Continuing our Baja Road Trip, "Valle" as it's known locally is said to be an amazing place to take a wine tour, so that's our plan!
We start off at one of the best restaurants in Valle de Guadalupe, actually, one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! La Cocina de Doña Esthela is the most recommended restaurant in Valle by all of you in the comments and on Instagram (thank you)!
The speciality of La Cocina de Doña Esthela is the Borrego, a slow-cooked sheep that melts in your mouth (and makes you want to rip your shirt off). If you are ever in Valle de Guadalupe, add this restaurant to your travel plans.
Next, we decided to start our wine tour at the Baron Balch'e Winery. It is home to an amazing underground wine cellar with some bottles of wine costing $500 per bottle. We did a great wine tasting with an English speaking wine connoisseur. We tried four different types of wine in our tasting, and all of them were great. Come to Baron Balch'e Winery for your next wine tour here in Valle de Guadalupe.
For our second stop on our wine tour of Valley de Guadalupe, we went to Decantos Winery. Decontos is a newer, more modern take on wineries in the region. Decantos also featured a wide variety of Mexican Wines. The real kicker at Decantos is the patio to sit out and enjoy the beautiful views.
Now, we were hungry again and decided to go to one of the best restaurants in Valle de Guadalupe, Fauna Restaurant, within the Bruma Winery property. We had 7 courses, over 20 dishes of incredible food and I cannot recommend this place enough (if budget allows).
Things are definitely more expensive in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico (compared to other Mexican Vacations) so take that into consideration while planning your Mexican Travel Plans.
We finished the day at our Valle de Guadalupe Airbnb, Casa Frida. An incredible property dedicated to the Mexican Icon, Frida Kahlo.
This is my perfect itinerary for 24 hours in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico.
Have you ever been to Valle de Guadalupe?

Being coined as the “Napa Valley” of Mexico, Valle de Guadalupe has been producing fine wines for a number of years and is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

It’s interesting because Mexico has been producing wine longer than any other country in the Americas. Not only that, the first exported grape vines planted in Napa were actually from Mexico.

All my guest from France or the USA had been left speechless with the Guadalupe Valley. They don't expect this kind of place to be in Baja. My explanation is Baja is as Mediterranean as Italy similar weather not only grapes but olives, figs, pomegranates grow so well here combined with some of the richest ocean waters in the world you get great wine, food weather and Mexican hospitality. 🤌

I had that same feast at Fauna some weeks ago. I don't really enjoy broccoli but that broccoli was a highlight! my favorite was the ceviche with cucumber at the beginning.. only wish I had eaten less of that so I could've had more space for the scallop burritos. That place is to die for, we spent the entire afternoon there (like 5 hours?!). So happy they took you there! I am from El Porvenir one of the small towns within Valle de Guadalupe. Grew up and lived there my whole childhood and young adult life, until I moved to the USA in 2015.
I have watched over the years how much the Valle has changed, there use to be zero paved roads! Everything was dirt road. And back in my day there was not all the options of restaurants and wineries like now. Also I worked for some years at Encuentro Guadalupe luxury hotel (Rihanna stayed there once as well as some of the cast from scrubs) and that was the 1st hotel in El Valle to start the concept of “GLAMPING” worth a visit for sure!. So many things my hometown has to offer.

Queretaro is also wine (and cheese country). Another beautiful state in Mexico. The capital is one of the best preserved and most beautiful colonial cities. A lot of history there about Mexico’s independence from Spain.

I was just there this past weekend and have had the Borrego Tatemado many times. I can tell you it is an amazing dish! The only downside about this place is that the secret is out and now on weekends there are tour buses dropping off people for breakfast. You must get there early on a weekend or else expect to wait at least 1 hour. It's better to go on a weekday before you head out wine tasting.

The Napa Valley, located in Central California, is notorious for the vineyards and wine it produces. People love to go touring the beautiful and scenic private vineyards on horseback for anniversaries, bachelorette parties, and even just to have a weekend away.

Valle de Guadalupe is not the Napa of Mexico is way better, nicer and a lot of more fun! Beautiful people everywhere. I went to so many and I can’t remember one that is even more modern. Like a club! Young people dancing to modern music! Beautiful girls and lots of them.

The valle is awesome, as a proclaimed wine snob, I love it down there. I do feel the food is actually better than the wine though. So many good food options to choose from. The wine is on par with wines from Temecula in my opionion.
