Absolutely love Squeeze. Saw them (uh, heard them) open for Costello in Vancouver in the early 80s. Squeeze, Costello, the Clash, the Jam, Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, Graham Parker, Joe Jackson: I owe a great deal of my youthful joy to these British musicians.
Agreed! There are some less that amazing songs, but even those aren’t BAD songs. The sounds Chris makes, with the sounds Glenn makes, it’s fucking MAGIC. There’s something so special there.
I still play their 45's and over album 40 plus years on, i can remember being in an E type Jag going down the Old Kent road with Tempted on the tape deck. It all sounds great even now.
Music and lyrics of Squeeze is really the "tops" for me of the 80s. So many bands really were great and the energy was wonderful so I feel blessed to be in my 20s and in the midst of it all. Such a great mix of styles, serious, playful, and just fun music all over! We won't get there until the culture changes again, so that music was a product of the times, whether you like it or not, but I believe it was incredibly great music! I loved that Squeeze had much creativity coming from all the musicians and such good talent.
Squeeze, the Alarm, the Proclaimers. The 80’s produced some awesome but best live bands I’ve ever seen. Would honestly blow the greats away effortlessly. Love these two though; something very very special.
Hands down in my top 5 all time favorite bands. I’m 42, and was lucky enough to have a dad that introduced me to them at a young age. I was lucky enough to see them in 2015 in Chicago. They’re incredible. I don’t get starstruck, but I’d have a hard time not fanboying HARD with these two.
Wrote some great songs for sure never in the Fabs league of track after track after track of sheer out the blue brilliance but terrific sound to the voices and band itself !
6:13 mark Glenn says when they met that Chris was "STREETS AHEAD"...?! Who knew Chevy Chase would be be the critical link between Steely Dan, Squeeze, and "Community"?
sleaford mods. And I'm not familiar with them but just heard Glenn say enough for me to search in a music app. I'm checking their music out now and found they're coming to Boston in May.
Hi Tom. Just writing to ask if you would be OK if I used a few short quotes from this interview in a book I am hoping to self-publish, about Squeeze? The quotes would be fully credited to yourself and I'd put the link to your channel in the bibliography. Many thanks, James (UK)
What songs had Chris already written when he met Glenn? I guess this question is for super fans . also, at 9:10 to 9:30 I notice Glenn's right hand fingers twitching. why? he even grabs it at 9:30 i noticed because i have nerve damage in my hands
They've written some songs that you could call "classics." Quite a talented duo, Lennon & Macca not quite but possibly the best of any of the bands that rose in the 80s.
The interview is all very professional, with two csmeras and an interviewer with about an hundred websites to his name. But i can't tell you how dull it all is
One of my all-time favorite bands and collaborations ... can't think of a better musical pair. But the body language in this video makes me very uncomfortable.
Amazing songwriters

Loved these guys since early Squeeze days.. I feel they can’t do wrong. Definitely the best music of my lifetime.

Brilliant song writers and performers, a true 'National Treasure '.
National Treasure. Absolutely elated to have enjoyed them at Reading Festival 1988. Big love and respect, many thanks Glenn, Chris and band(s).
Ive been lucky to have seen them twice. Once in 1979. I couldn't believe my ears.
Squeeze and The Beautiful South are my go-to albums when I need cheering up. Such witty lyrics, always make me smile.

such talent and intelligence. one of the greatest of all time!
Squeeze is one of the top bands to play!!!

Funny, listening to Big Beng brought me here. Top of my list of Squeeze songs for sure, thanks for the post

Great interview! Amazing band.
I'm so glad the algorithm brought your channel my way, Tom! I'm rather enjoying sinking this wine whilst ploughing through your vids. Top work, mate!
Great interview
I've had the pleasure of seeing Squeeze live several times. Their music hits me in a manner no other acts do.
Nice relaxed interview. Thanks
Fantastic band ❤

that sleaford mods Bhs cover with the comments turned off is totally brilliant.. superb stuff
Adore the singer
The Mike Skinner and the Streets question was brilliant! I have always made that comparison and wanted to know the answer to that!
And tonight.....Squeeze play The Subscription Rooms in Stroud UK - can't wait!

I was a young punk then I bought Take Me I’m Yours and my horizons expanded

Fantastic interview, but really awkward body language. And, Glen! Stop touching yur face! There's a pandemic going on!
Chris just looks older, whilst Glen unfortunately has become a bit of a bloater.
Glen just looks a bit chubby because he’s sat on a sofa, it tends to make people look 👀 a bit of a lardarse when they’re slouched on a sofa.
@@Eleventhearlofmars Ah he has put on some pounds in fairness. Still has an incredible voice though, and a really underrated guitar player.
The statuesque drawbridge consequently please because polo exceptionally travel plus a material gladiolus. abaft, halting tomato
