Male Brahmins have propogated this dance from their village of Kuchipudi in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh,giving the dance form its name.
Vendantam Lakshmi Narayana Shastry was one of the great exponents of Kuchipudi.
Ragini Devi was the first woman to learn Kuchipudi. And also her daughter Indrani.
Shree vesham was performed earlier by men.
Later this got paired up between husband and wife.
