I am fully blind. College is most definitely a struggle when no teachers can read braille and nothing can be brailled for me. Especially in maths where a lot of diagrams are involved. It was really annoying as I felt like I couldn’t participate in the lessons but we managed to work around it. Last year I had an exam and because I did all my answers in braille, i had to sit with the teacher and help them scribe my work which was really annoying. Even worse, the test had no diagrams so I couldn’t answer some questions. I also have to take my own brailler in bc college gave me one but it was electric and I’ve not had a good experience with that lol. At one point they wouldn’t allow me to use my brailler in the exam because someone would be writing for me anyway but since it was a maths exam, I needed it as I wouldn’t be able to work out my answers without it. It took a lot of convincing but I was allowed to use it in the end. Oh and also, my teacher didn’t get a print copy of the exam so no questions could be read to me. The braille copy came from my high school. Thank you to anyone who read until the end 😂😃

Thank you for sharing!! 😄 I'm glad you were able to work around it. I'm very fortunate I graduated high school when I did without making up classes my last year. I literally just made it.

I’m back 3 years later. After struggling for a few years I was finally able to pass my maths last year and I’ve just started university studying counselling and mental health. Took longer than I expected for me to get here but now I’m here but in a way I’m kinda glad things turned out the way they did as I feel like I’ve learned so much from it all.

Thank you James for answering my question. For your question about advocating, I've used a laptop for about 7 or so years, and the accessibility just sucks! The screen magnifier is glitchy, and the screen is super grainy. I mentioned something in 8th grade, but didn't really get that far. Conveniently, right before we went spring break (which turned into virtual school because of the pandemic) I got an iPad that helps, but I still am missing somethings that I need from a laptop. I'm trying to get a Mac through my state, but like anything that involves a lot of people, it's really slow. Thank you for being a really cool person about your vision (or lack thereof), and I hope you have a great day!

The thing I find hardest to explain to anyone is that my vision changes according to lighting. In bright light any reaidual vision I have is useless. I did become legally blind in my 50's. Acceptance wasn't hard for me and allowed me to progress greatly..

I love goal ball!!!!! I went to a camp called the Hellen L Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children. I still go every year!! It’s at the beach 🏝 in NJ. You stay there for a week and get to go to the beach every day… and there are so many other fun activities like going to the water park!!!! It’s TOTALLY FREE!!!!! 100% would recommend. They have an alumni week for people ages 16-21.

I used a CCTV made my freedom scientific. It’s pretty cool!! It folds up so you can put it in a carrying case and take it with you wherever you need it.

I really wish my school would let me have a Mac. Macs are so much easier to use for visually impaired people.

I am getting training on how to use VoiceOver on a MacBook and once you get the hang of it it’s quite easy however the person who is training me is saying that Windows is easier while I have no experience with windows. Not sure if you’re aware of this but on a Mac when you want to click on something you have to press like three or four button at a time but you can’t change this in settings so you only have to press one or two buttons. Mostly it will be caps lock and the up and down arrow or when you want to click on an app it will be caps lock with space. I hope this was helpful.

    Can we color albino's hair??
    PLEASE reply

Technically yes, but some hair due to lack of pigment may not hold the color as well. I've dyed my hair in my youth to dark brown and would sometimes go more red or dirty blonde.
