One of the privileges of the online connected 21st century is that you can enjoy the best of the 18th century with a mouse click. The Johann Sebastian Bach cantata BWV 7 "Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam," a personal favorite since its release on an LP as part of the 1970's landmark Telefunken release of the complete Bach cantatas in original instrument performances, can be enjoyed in its entirety in a lively rendition by the Swiss J.S. Bach Foundation. by accessing a recently released recording on UA-cam. Compared to the long bus ride needed to buy the original record, being able to sit down at a computer and hear the best of Bach is a miracle

This. For sure - and from multiple sources, not just this channel (e.g. Netherlands Bach Society.) I remember listening to a Columbia University radio production of music by Bach around Christmastime; that was amazing. Now, we're swimming in it.

Almost everyone onstage is under fifty and almost everyone listening is over fifty. The problem of classical music, the abundance of youthful talent notwithstanding.

I listen mostly to Baroque vocal/choral music, Bach and Handel mostly but sometimes others like Buxtehude. I’m 61 now. I was listening to it starting almost forty years ago. I don’t know what conclusions to draw. I’m the only person my age I know who has these tastes.

The orchestral part of the opening chorus should have been played more gently, fluently, without such sharpness and abruptness, as the music depicts the continuous rolling and flowing of waves on Jordan, where Christ came to. A very good performance, nonetheless :)

Monetize all the notes, pun unintended, and you have invaluable superlative music. Gosh the opening bars are so reminiscent of the music prevalent in French Courts..the congregation unwittingly exposed to all the influences the Master imbibed during a church service!
