I loved this guy in the early 80's when I was a kid👍 Doug's illusions were simple but they were live onstage which left no room for error. That made his shows more real than today's edited magician shows.
Doug Henning's tv shows used to air in Brazil. I was a little boy then, I only watched a show or two. But I never forgot Doug. He was such a likeable showman, he'd get your attention with a simple smile.
Magic was certainly around in the seventies a lot of people were doing it but it was his style that made the difference I think he was one of the first to get rid of the top and tails
Doug Henning is an absolute legend! He totally admits his act is an illusion. He is respectable. Unlike Chris Angel who relies on smoke and mirrors and Photoshop.
I used to do magic back when I was a kid (1970s) and I remember the professional magicians hated fakes, they liked Kreskin bc he never claimed to have any special psychic powers but they really hated Uri Geller bc he did claim to have special powers.
Doug Henning was such an upbeat and really nice person this really was evident in his performances. He had such a peaceful energy with such enthusiasm. A fond memory for so many growing up in the late 70 early 80s Check out the Magic Show on Broadway its on DVD a true work of art from one of magics masters
He was not only an amazing magician, he was also a great host, stage presence and personality that children of all ages were drawn to. Nowadays it's all about appearing otherworldly to the audiences (i.e Criss Angel). It's all about dressing like a Gothic "Prince of Darkness", diverting that audience away from the actual magic tricks themselves...
Also people like Criss Angel have absolutely no talent and rely on camera tricks. I'll give you an example he asks somebody to pick a card and the card is written on his arm in Texta. The only problem is he's asked about 100 people to do the same trick and they only show you when he gets it right
that is because doug and others from his time were real illusionists.. not just on the stage but their persona seemeed to follow along out of the fame field and the stages. They are legends on their own right :) beuatifull to see this still today after many years. My late frind dennis loomis was very close to doug and he only told me good things about doug H.
Doug did perform lots of illusions before David Copperfield did. At first Copperfield saw Doug perform. Doug was not the best performer because he was no pop star like David Copperfield. No matter if music or magic, "good looking", "great clothes", "vip dinners", and so far, are today much more important for the audience like in former times. RIP Doug Henning!
You'll never see this but Chris angel is a fake he uses camera tricks nothing like the amazing Doug Henning they shouldn't be spoken about in the same sentence he's just not in the same league
If you look closely @ 1:22 a few of the red squares on the Rubix cube are recessed a little which a normal cube doesn't look like that so I'm sure it's the key to that trick just not sure how he did it
You, know, Hedwig is an actual name. Or possibly it's in reference to the classic 1998 glam punk musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, or its 2000 film adaptation.
@irican01 Criss Angel isn't even a real magician; he just plays one on TV. He has even admitted in interviews that he's not very good at anything but marketing. So that's from the "artist" himself.
I loved Doug Henning's personality - so friendly and therefore disarming lol
I miss Doug Henning. I truly enjoyed watching him and his magic on TV back in the day.
I was a 70s kid watching Doug Henning and I became a magician myself been doing it 30 years
That Rubic'c cube trick is genius in design.
Close-up magic is always the best magic.

Same in Canada
Love this magician and his amazing mullet hairstyle!Guys,i miss so much the 80's!!!The 80's in my opinion is the best era of all times!!!
Doug Henning actually started in the 70s, I saw him on Broadway in the 70s, I love both the 70s and 80s that was the favorite time of my life.
He was the first to really bring magic to the forefront with modern nuances
Magic was certainly around in the seventies a lot of people were doing it but it was his style that made the difference I think he was one of the first to get rid of the top and tails

Remember watching him as a kid. Started a long journey for me.

Not a day goes by I don't miss Doug. He my biggest inspiration as a child.
i saw him st the orpheum theater in Mn when i was 8 years old...awesome and a wonder guy.
Doug you gave me joy and wonder, and now that I'm grown, I know you were a grand master at sleight of hand
Love DOUG SO MUCH so nice and great. Nice vid. He's the freddie mecury of magic lol.
fantastic showmanship
Greatest Magician ever. I LOVE DOUG HENNING!

HEH!!!
NOBODY seemed to notice the shadow of Doug Henning's one leg when his legs vanished for those 2 kids!
LUCKY THING "I" NOTICED!!! ;)
My favorite illusionist.
Wonderful showmanship!
Wow now that's what I call real magic.
Watched it in slow motion. Still don't know how he did any of that shit.
How does he not have the world record for fastest solving rubix cube? lol
he had me at the lemon...
then he brought out the onion...
he's too good
01:28 that throw how many times did he practise to catch it with the mixed side facing him. Amazing.
One of my influences in the art of magic one of my favorates befor David or Chris Angel
Doug Henning was a Real Magician, Criss Angel is a TV Magician.
WOW!!!
can we slo-mo that rubix cube trick?? please
How did he do that
Cyril is also a great Magician, im his fan.
Kobe
Doug Ruled! And then he was taken away so young.
David loses interest at 0:51.
Doug Henning is the Criss angel of the 70's. LOL
You'll never see this but Chris angel is a fake he uses camera tricks nothing like the amazing Doug Henning they shouldn't be spoken about in the same sentence he's just not in the same league
He was pretty good. The best thing about him was he was the only one that could call a trick an "illusion" without sounding like a douche.
R.I.P.
If you look closely @ 1:22 a few of the red squares on the Rubix cube are recessed a little which a normal cube doesn't look like that so I'm sure it's the key to that trick just not sure how he did it
Doug started it all by fusing theatre, broadway and the art of magic
That has been going on for 300 years it was just his style was different and very modern
HOW!?!?!
Martin Short used to do a good impression of Doug Henning.
I have never seen that will have to look it up
must learn that rubix cube thing
I caught it. It's not a switch.
You, know, Hedwig is an actual name. Or possibly it's in reference to the classic 1998 glam punk musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, or its 2000 film adaptation.
well, that was a colorful time, wasnt it?
Neil Peart. Always the showman.
whoa doug thinks i'm a genius and i think he's one as well.....i guess genius minds think alike :P
Joe Rogan got me here! Like if you relate
Nice Chop Cup handling - albeit pretty reminiscent of the Ken Brooke routine.
@hairmagic And before him there was this guy named Tony Slydini who is scary.
Yeah I agree Criss Angel is nothing compared to a past master like this.
how did he do that rubics cube trick?
I can’t tell you
@irican01 Criss Angel isn't even a real magician; he just plays one on TV. He has even admitted in interviews that he's not very good at anything but marketing. So that's from the "artist" himself.
He never shows the white of the cube
Isn't this the last tv special he had?
MrOphachew I'm not sure it may have been his last special.
O_o
whtahell?
The rubiks cube trick is easy. I won't tell the trick, but notice how he doesnt show the bottom side.
HA! Canadians...
back when girls commonly wore knee high socks.
Wow, I totally forgot about Doug Henning :O/
Katalyzt
@ToroAnimations Neither you and less zalron69...
Criss Angel is a talentless bum compared to Henning IMHO. This guy was awesome and doesn't get near enough credit.
@TheMusicvent Nope; but he has alot of stooges
Edna doesn't seem very impressed.
Doug wasn't a Christian He was very religious but his religion was T.M. That is a fact.
*fg
Yep doug henning Christian illusionist saved magic and david seth Kotkin Christian illusionist perserved the illusion of science idea concepts :)
Me Henning wasn’t Christian (TM) but he did share many Christian philosophies.
Either way that Hippy was alright
he has such a strange voice
Comment fb if family guy brought you here
Edna is not amused.
Horrible magician. No wonder no one remembers him.
Dude, you have no idea what you’re talking about.
He's relic of the horrible 70's. Criss Angel walks on water! Literally!
@@tyronejoihnson7046 no he doesn’t. Doug Henning walked through a brick wall.
Chris angel is fake.
Little Too Childish... lol
It was the 80s. Magicians weren’t trying to be “edgy” then.
