    You are Kurt's playmate.
If you decide to get a new kitten 😸 try to foster a kitten.
That way if Kurt gets along with it you can keep the kitten.
If they don't get along the shelter will understand.
Usually once they find out that they can play together, they will have so much fun.
And get a male kitten .

You know Kurt best. I've had friends that owned orange tabbies and they where definitely solo acts. Give Kurt plenty of time to get used to his new home and used to your new wife. That's a lot of change for a cat right there.

On the other hand, from the Cole and Marmalade channel, we see the famous Marmalade cohabiting with multiple kitties with apparent comfort. And Bond, who was living rough and solo for quite a while, not only fit in with the other cats, he has matched up one kitty (Calypso) as a particular buddy. The two subject cats are ginger boys. A friend of ours had a ginger boy who accepted additional cats over time; I felt certain his initial unhappiness was more about sharing and wariness than ginger genes.

Cats are, in general, resistant to change. They're big fans of their schedules and patterns. We've always had success in introducing kittens, as they seem to be less threatening to an adult cat. They aren't seen as competition quite as much. Good for you for thinking ahead to all the changes and of Kurt's well-being above your desire for the new cute kitten! You're a good cat dad.

Adult cats, especially males, will almost always accept a new kitten. It's hit-or-miss with other adults, so don't feel bad if you need to return a cat who either isn't adjusting well, or who isn't being accepted by Kurt. This is one of the benefits of fostering - you can test out your cat's social behavior with a cat who doesn't have to stay with you permanently.

Bringing a second cat into the household doesn't always work out the way you hope it will. I got a second cat when my first cat was four years old. The person keeping Snowy took in a few strays and she is friends with none of them. She is grumpier since a new one came. she didn't like the hyperactiveness of the new cat and the grumpiness of the other new cat. The 2 cats don't have respect for her even though she is much older. She is 10 now, the other cats are 2 and 3.Snowy got along with Ren but that's because they grew up together as kittens but he passed away now from FIP

Also, I like the comment of another commenter in that try to be a foster and also show the foster to Kurt and see how he reacts with a foster. That way, it can and will show you if Kurt will be fine with another real cat in the home. God bless you and Kurt and I feel that I’d it’s meant to happen and work out then it will. Some advice:
Time: After Kurt is almost or completely comfortable with your new house and he is good friends with your fiancé, then wife.
The cat: It has to be a kitten. If its an adult, they will fight if male and Kurt will defend his territory and will bully the cat.
Kitten: Kurt can easily attack the kitten, and probably will if he gets jealous, so you need to be careful of that and be there to stop it if it happens.
Defensive: Kurt won't just defend his territory, he'll defend you aswell, so you need to show Kurt that the kitten won't hurt you. He will also definitely get defensive over all his toys and things, especially his favourite ones, so if the kitten really takes a liking to one of Kurt's favourite things, the smartest move is to get another one for the kitten in his own area and to not let Kurt think it's his own.
After: it'll take time to warm up, but afterwards, Kurt might even look after the kit like he would his own one, and they'll have tons of fun playing, and his mental health will definitely improve with a new kitty friend.
    Hope this helps :)

I have had many cats over the last 40 years, but NEVER had "cat buddies." If I started off with two siblings... maybe. However, keep in mind once you get a companion for Kurt, and he doesn't like the cat, you have THE SAME PROBLEM TIMES TWO. Take Kurt on play dates with other cats at a rescue. Yes, it is a big sacrifice of time but worth the effort to find a cool pal for Kurt.

I'm old and have had a lot of cats in my life. They are individuals like people and can be very particular about whether they like another cat or not. I agree with you that a kitten may be best for Kurt. I might also recommend a female. Sometimes male on male cat buddies do not work out because there can be only one male in the house (and that's clearly going to be Kurt. But getting him a sister has a higher chance of him accepting her and having a positive reaction.
Also, if you're going for a kitten, I'd say to look for one at least 6 months old so she could be at least somewhat physically able to play with Kurt.
Kurt is just wrestling with his toys. If his toys were other cats, you'd only want to break the up if you heard squeaking or growling. My cats happily play together most times, but every once in a while, it gets too intense. Usually, I just have to clap my hands and they stop. On a handful of occasions I've had to physically intervene.
It still might take a couple weeks to a month for the hissing and growling to stop.
As for your fiancee, has she gotten more experience with cats who are not Kurt? She's so tentative with him the couple of times I've seen her in videos, I'm not surprised Kurt is having some negative reactions. I think building p her confidence just dealing with cats might be good for her. Because I don't doubt that Kurt is jealous, but some of her body language is going to trigger negative responses in cats.

The first was a pretty kit kat, 6 months old but looked younger, she became the boy cat's girlfriend. Next was a year old throwaway, the poor girl was traumatized but soon became happy. We found her on the streets. Then was an abused broken tailed sweet kitten, everyone loved her, especially the boy cat. Last was a Christmas Eve sick kitten who was found crying in a puddle during a rain storm. She was my mothers favorite cat.

Plus Kurt is a male so could be worse but I hope it goes well and Kurt truly seems like a special cat so hoping for the best.

Adult cats also do well with senior cats. They’re more chill and don’t feel too territorial. No pressure either way. I know you’ll adopt and continue to volunteer your time. Thanks for helping out the cats

We really don't know how Kurt will react to a new kitten in the house. Kurt may like the kitten right a way or he will adjust and accept the kitten eventually. Only time will tell. Having a new kitten is a very good idea. Abram, just do it when you are ready for it. ❤ 🐱 😀 🩷

One way to make Kurt like your Fiancee better is to make sure they are the only one that gives him Treats and catnip at least for a few months.

Very thoughtful approach to getting a new kitty. I definitely like having two fur babies at once. You will see how much they have their own unique personalities. I enjoy watching your interactions w Kurt. Best wishes on your marriage and moving as well as the new baby kitty. You should do a gender reveal.. minus any loud exploding powder thingies. I'm sure you'll come up with something fun and safe as the reveal.

So smart to think about the changes coming up and how that’ll impact Kurt. Also, my husband and I adopted a cat and he adores my husband. I try so hard and he just doesn’t care haha. Kurt might just be okay with your fiancé and that could be the best it’ll get. Maybe not though, who knows. So happy for all of you!

Cats are very attuned to their senses. If you do get a cat keep them in a separate room and every few days swap the toys between the two rooms. That way the scent of both cats will become familiar and it's less of a confrontation when they finally meet. We used to have a cat shelter and this is the only way to make it less stressful for everyone

Thank you for being so thoughtful about how Kurt would feel!
I don't know if my anecdotal experience would help at all - my most territorial tomcat was actually very chill with a female cat that I had to unfortunately return to the shelter as she was unhappy without access to the outside. I didn't realise it at the time, but I had recorded videos of him and her together and the difference in the way he treated her (licking, cuddling and playing with her, etc) compared to the other male cats i have now is night and day... He fights one of the other males every week or so, and the third cat is just neutral to both of them.
I realised way too late that i should have tried to get him another female again, when i was re-watching those old videos and he watched too, super intently and slow blinking at it :(

Sometimes the optimism of getting your cat a new friend doesn’t work out irl. Cats can be very picky, way more picky than dogs, and not all cats will get along with a new cat in the house. It can result in more stress. The best bet is keeping two siblings since they were babies
It’s totally fine to have a solo cat with a lot of human interaction

Cats are social, they do well with a bit of company and if you work away from home, but come home each evening, your cat will likely be a bit lonely during the day.
But introducing a new cat is a process and will require planning. Kurt is top of the heap at the moment and he will be concerned about a new cat encroaching on his territory. There will be issues between them to iron out.
It will only happen if you feel it’s the right time and if Kurt accepts the other cat.
Don’t be pressured because of comments.
Love and hugs to you all!

I work at an animal shelter and we mainly have cats there, and they all have different personalities. I would recommend maybe introducing kirt to a cat like a friends cat or something with maybe them in two separate rooms and having a see through or like a screen door or whatever. Like keeping them in separate rooms but them being able to till see, meet and smell each other and see how Kirt would react but make sure you’re not around. And then if thinks are going well you can enter the area or whatever and see how Kirt acts then

You've got a lot of changes coming. Good to think of the effect on Kurt, but also think of the effect on you and your fiancee. Move. Get married. Settle into married life. Let Kurt absorb all the changes - then consider adopting a new fur baby.
Of course, another possible change is a human baby entering your life so just don't feel pressured into jumping into anything new until the rest of your life settles down. You'll know when. Scritchies for Kurt and good luck to you and your future.

Ive had over 25 cat at one time and I've had cats since I was 2 im now 68 with 9 of the little buggers. There are things to do and things not to do in Kurt's case. I don't recommend a adult cat,but a kitten yes,the best way to do this is to get a big cage one big enough to put kitten cat box and water food bowls keep the cage in a place that Kurt will always have access to let them both see each other. Plus the kitten will get potty trained at the same time.Give it a couple of days like this then take out some urine poop and put it in Kurt's cat box so he can smell it this will get him to know more about the new baby. Then a couple more day you should already seen that kirt is very interested in the kitty, take time with them both to play, dirt kitty might start hissing at each other but that's okay as long as Kurt does not go crazy like he did with that toy.lol go from there. I've always done this and it's always worked. Of course let the kitten out to explore the new home but without Kurt in the room
Kitty has to adjust too. Hope you read this and it helps I will be watching and waiting for Kurt's reaction..love Kurt I have two Gingers both adorable. ❤❤

I believe it is a Good thing you are waiting to get a kitten-companion for Kurt. IF you do, don't wait too long after you get settled... Because it will be New Territory for both Kurt and the new kitten, so perhaps Kurt won't feel the need to defend it as much. The suggestion already mentioned by others to foster a kitten or take Kurt for a "Meeting/play date", are both good ones. I would just add that maybe an older kitten, like 3 months-ish, & not a super young one would be better. An older kitten might be ( hopefully) more self-assured.

I adopted a cat three years ago and just one month ago I rescued a stray. The cat I’ve had the longest doesn’t fully get along with my newest cat. They do occasionally chase each other and play together but my oldest one still hisses sometimes and wants to fight. It’s been rough and a lot of work but I know they will eventually fully get along and be best buddies! I kept them separated for two weeks and for another week I would keep them separate if I left the house.
