One of the great ironies ever in the universe: Robert Pollard did NOT write this song, and a Pollard is a type of tree.

and writes 5 songs on the crapper...and 3 will be good ones! (his quote). Sprouts songs are all top notch.

      It’s a pruning technique, but still…

@@AT-ol2yj it’s called Espalier pruning. An ancient technique, still used today here in Oregon. It was created by monks in old monastery orchard fruit trees. Song writing as a horticultural horizon!..my PhD dissertation in music 1992

The constant note that ignites this song holds infinitely upon the frequencies of life. It will always be there waiting to see you! Waiting to be heard by your sons and daughters and their sons & daughters who will always recognize that note.......forever!!! Thats a comfort of great song writing that few can capture so beautifully!

Brilliant, just brilliant Doug! I can still remember the day I picked this up at Record Revolution, then haled it back down to Kent and listening to it before band practice.

Thank you Doug Gillard for writing this song, one of my all-time favorite GBV songs. Saw these guys last week and they killed it live, of course.

never knew for awhile now that this was Dougs song, this version is interesting, the higher vocals makes it easier to hear too i might have to spin this a few times and try and memorize the words so im not relying on far out echolalia if i see 'em play it live again

fenderwoods both songs will always be written by one man, Doug Gillard, henceforth its his forever whether sung by him, Robert Pollard or Robert Plant. Its Dougs song and its forever beautifully designed for you and me and everyone. We are blessed!

It kinda is more "raw" than GBV's first "produced version". i always liked Sprouts songs, too. youre not the fool...that person probably doesnt know someone other than bob sang on their best albums. usually 2 or 3 songs...this is great. wonder if the poster knows Cobra Verde? i'm guessing no.
