I seriously went into this show thinking hannugram was fanon like most ships, but I was so fucking shook at every very romantic thing that happened between the two?? First it was just hannibal creepily smelling Will and remembering that shitty aftershave as his scent, and then it went to things like him openly missing Will and basically making a fucked up valentine's gift via a mangled and skinned corpse made to look like a heart. Like Hannibal, you are the weirdest romantic ever and I love it.... Also, I think this is the best way to actually make a romantic relationship interesting when it's not the main focus. I love very plot driven stories with the romance on the side, but making the romance a little covert (cant say it's too subtle cause, cmon, "murder husbands" anyone??) Is the fucking greatest. Like yes, give me slow burn in a show where the romance isn't even the center of attention, cause gosh that makes each and every intimate/romantic moment that much more amazing.
Whilst I agree that making the heart out of the corpse was a twisted romantic gesture, Hanni smelling Will wasn’t anything of the sort. He was literally just shown smelling the cancer on Jack’s wife several scenes before and Will was sick with encephalitis when Hanni smelled him. He was sniffing out what was wrong with Will. He simply lied about the aftershave, as he didn’t want Will to know he had encephalitis. Although, I’m sure that the aftershave also assaulted his senses and he’d rather Will not conceal his meaty aroma with it.
I love slow burn romance! One other series I really liked was miss Fischers murder mysteries, it focuses on the murder mysteries and has some witty slowburn love on the side.
Same... like I rarely ship people and I thought it would be something shitty like some people did with Killing Stalking(which they were definetly not romantically involved but it's the story of an abuser and an abused person as the artist stated yet some people ships it like it represents lgbtq+ relationships. Ugh.) but no. Both of them are chaotic, they understood each other well and played with each other. It was an equal war. Both bited and both treated. It was amazing to see. I did not expect it to be this good.

(you know what I mean if u know Hannibal lol) And the second one, that smile... 01:16 that genuine smile... I can literally see that he is imagining Will's face! I adore Mads's acting...

It's only as gay as you feel it is. I never saw any romantic element to their relationship. To me they're supreme friends or brothers; people who have a deep bond and it doesn't have to be something else just because it's two men that are having this connection. It doesn't change what the show or the characters are anyway, however you interpret their relationship

i love how in the first clip, hannibal looks as if he hesitates slightly. his eyes shift around the room, his lip quivers slightly - as if he were afraid, or unsure of what words to say. then his eyes drop, and he almost sounds defeated, as if his secret had been exposed right afront his face. and in those moments we sorta see a form of realization dawn over Hannibal, like ' *holy shit shes right* ' and in the second clip, he's relaxed - and *immediately* and openly, uses the word 'Love' to describe the way Will makes Hannibal feel when the prompt came up. There's many types of love, right? I doubt it's anything other than romantic, if im being honest. because in that small second of him saying *Love* , you can just sense in his voice that Will makes him feel as if he's in love. He then smiles, and you can see it in just that one small expression that he's in love. i love those two differences between those scenes. maybe im reading too much into it, but i think theres a good difference between Hannibal in those two scenes.

If Dr. Lecter is in love with Will then he has fallen for someone truly troubled and incapable of a normal life; but then we wouldn't expect Hannibal to be drawn romantically/physically to someone ordinary and decent, without baggage. Graham's psyche is more damaged than a broken porcelain doll. Plus, if Will has fallen for Hannibal, knowing who he truly is, that simply reinforces the fact that he is miles beyond normal emotional health. Will choosing Hannibal as a potential romantic partner would only make sense if Will did not know that the doctor was preying upon people in order to eat them. It's wild that nearly six years have gone by and we're still talking about these characters. For a gay man like myself, it was often rather titillating to watch this series unfold, because this strange and fascinating dynamic between the two men could be taken more than one way ... easily.

When I first watched the Hannibal series, my original understanding was that Hannibal and Will fell in love with each other romantically. But then I watched it again many years later after having been through a few love affairs myself, and I realized that the love they shared was only a love of the mind, and not of the body, if that makes sense. That's why it's never said directly between Will and Hannibal, because the love they share isn't the typical romantic love; it's similar to two asexual people connecting on the deepest level possible, without the need or desire for sex in the relationship.

I even remember someone from the show, either creator Bryan or one of the actors, openly mentioning this. And the fact that when Will had sex with Margo, he saw the Wendigo (a symbol for Hannibal) appearing and literally cummed at the sight of him. Yeah, there is definitely sexual tension in their relationship. And creator Bryan Fuller even mentioned that if Hannibal were to have sex with Will in later seasons, Will would have to have a clear mind, and not messed up emotionally. Which they did plan on doing apparantly, before the show was cancelled.

I think in the tv series, they never clearly state what happened to his sister. Even the truth behind the man who was imprisoned by Chiyoh was vague at best. Hannibal told her that he killed Mischa but after Will arrived at the mansion, Chiyoh started to questioned the truth.

"You cannot control, with respect to whom you fall in love" I genuinely can't believe I just read comments saying that Hannibal thinks of Will as a brother... Some people are just Delusion and/or homophobic. The whole plot of the show wouldn't have happened the way it did if Hannibal didn't try to START A FAMILY with Will Graham. Will and Hannibal literally go on murder-dates with each other throughout season two and are confirmed to be 'courting' and you think they think of each other as brothers! You do realize how odd that sounds in the context right? I'm sorry but you don't court your brothers, fall in love with them or start a family with them. Within that context the entire show loses all meaning and sense of reality. I can't believe people don't understand that.
That's precisely why some people deny reality when they don't feel comfortable with it and invent something to replace it. Apart from the examples you gave there is still the metaphor of Achilles and Patroclo his lover and Hannibal mentioned this story to Will saying that they could, like them, conquer the world together, then he tells Will that killing Jack is unnecessary they could just run away together , a psychopath thinking about giving up killing someone to running away with a guy he assimilates to a Greek romance story and people are like "no dude they're brothers" 🤡
On the Wiki page for Hannigram it says the ship is canon and that they ran away together.

If Dr. Lecter is in love with Will then he has fallen for someone truly troubled and incapable of a normal life; but then we wouldn't expect Hannibal to be drawn romantically/physically to someone ordinary and decent, without baggage. Graham's psyche is more damaged than a broken porcelain doll. Plus, if Will has fallen for Hannibal, knowing who he truly is, that simply reinforces the fact that he is miles beyond normal emotional health. Will choosing Hannibal as a potential romantic partner would only make sense if Will did not know that the doctor was preying upon people in order to eat them.
It's wild that nearly six years have gone by and we're still talking about these characters.
For a gay man like myself, it was often rather titillating to watch this series unfold, because this strange and fascinating dynamic between the two men could be taken more than one way ... easily.

When I first watched the Hannibal series, my original understanding was that Hannibal and Will fell in love with each other romantically. But then I watched it again many years later after having been through a few love affairs myself, and I realized that the love they shared was only a love of the mind, and not of the body, if that makes sense. That's why it's never said directly between Will and Hannibal, because the love they share isn't the typical romantic love; it's similar to two asexual people connecting on the deepest level possible, without the need or desire for sex in the relationship.

is it just me or are their scenes super sexually charged though? i don’t disagree that what they feel towards each other goes beyond their own physicality, but to deny that sex doesn’t play a part in their relationship? i don’t know. especially after that scene in season two - where will and margot have sex and hannibal and alana have sex. the constant overlap and will reaching out for hannibal - even his seeing the wendigo, which is a representation of how will perceives hannibal - tells of his sexual desire for him

In the convo between Hannibal and Bedelia of 3x03 I've never took her as instigating him to do anything, she was genuinely curious and afraid, because if you remember her face right before Hannibal says that he has to eat Will transpires pure terror, and I don't think at this point she cares about Will, I honestly just believe that her thought process is if Hannibal does this to him, there's absolutely no hope for me. We can all agree that she was losing her marbles at the beginning of S3, she didn't have the stomach. Also they were bitchy, but Will at this point wasn't trying to do anything himself, "warning her" is absolutely NOT the best expression imo, that was a full on threat, he even said he wasn't planning to let Hannibal get caught a second time, and her reaction corresponded completely to that threat, she lost all composure we knew her to have. Again... That is my perspective, I like Bedelia quite a lot, she was the only one who realized the extent of Hannibal's obsession for Will in S1 and then she knew right away that what he felt was love, and THEN she even made Will aware that he shared those feelings as well. Yet even though I care for her the most, I will always always root for Hannibal and Will. Please don't take this as me trying to either change your mind or question your perspective because we all analyze the show that we love in different ways and that's amazing ☺️

Just like how he forgave his sister for trying to change him. That's why he was sawing Will's brain before he was stopped. I think in the tv series, they never clearly state what happened to his sister. Even the truth behind the man who was imprisoned by Chiyoh was vague at best. Hannibal told her that he killed Mischa but after Will arrived at the mansion, Chiyoh started to questioned the truth.
That just means he didn’t love Will. Psychopaths can’t love anyone as they lack empathy
