I have the Sw4 and a the big CP for my build. I find on the 5ft long where I am curing my rock I can get amazing surge flow with it where the water rocks but even on lowest constant setting it moves water and it's silent. The SW4 I will use on a 20G cube tank I am getting as a QT tank. So I am happy with them. on my build (probably a custom 5&1/2 ft lagoon) I will probably get a couple of those Coral Box RN-1s (similar to those AI pumps) on the back. Coral Box also have controllers for the CP's to do more fancy stuff through your phone but now I don't think I will need them for the CP - For feeding I will use the smart plugs to schedule them off and the RN-1s have a fancy phone interface so I can reduce them. I will probably autifeed into the sump though and slow my return to a trickle so I am going to get the coral box controller to do that on the jebao return.
If you plan ahead you can get some amazing equipment to do some cool stuff without breaking the bank - especially pumps.

Hey Sunny! Thanks for the detailed advice! I got these hooked up to a smart plug recently and still have to get it all sorted out. I’ll try to move the cp and get a surge going like you detailed. Will look into the RN-1s too. I did not know the CPs are able to plug into different controllers .. wow

@@prolificbreedaquatics I have the CP55 - the controllers are on Fish Street too but from memory they are like $100 for the controller and only control 1 pump each (plus for the biggest one like mine they don't make a controller but I think you can use for the medium on). Anyhow the controllers are good but at this point I don't need it. On the medium you will able to do schedules and control in 1% increments up to 110% - plus they say the pumps run quieter.
The RN-1 is basically a cheaper version of the AI but came out first. They have a similar looking app etc. Obviously not as sleek but I think it's all the same. Fish Street also sell the battery backup (can't recall if you got 1) which I think is essential. I love your setup and your earlier video about the smart power bars was awesome for me so thanks and I will get them for my build.

Oh I forgot - here is the vid talking about surge flow and the benefits -ua-cam.com/video/zoHnpIa-IDE/v-deo.html
I can't find where he specifies how exactly to do it - I thought it was about 2/3 through a video and may be this one but it is with Reef Dudes on a livestream - it may have been deleted. If I come across it I will let you know but it's just like I said because I kept going over it and then did it with my CP ;)

Very nice build! "Else" is the random flow for RW-4. Good luck with your new tank!

Protim Aquatics 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 yea we need all the modes to randomize the flow. Of wave maker just blast in one area constantly it can damage coral tissue

Ktown Reefer yea looking at it now ... I might pick up another cross flow for the left end ... I can already see dead spots in the left end of the overflow

@@prolificbreedaquatics Try just using 1 to get a surge flow first and that should get water moving in the whole tank. Put the pump like 25-30% down from the water surface - blowing horizontal and then you use the pulsing one and adjust the timing (slowly turn the nob) to get like a 1/2" wave. It might save you getting an extra pump because it uses momentum and it should keep the detritus suspended. It is a more efficient way to use the pump and I hear corals prefer surge flow than being blasted. ;)

I just put a CP-90 in my 55gal and I like so far. My only complaint which is my fault is the CP-90 is a little too strong for my 55gal on anything higher than the lowest speed, lol.
I heard the Jebao cross-flows are made in the same factory as the name brand version which is what convinced me to give the Jebao a chance.

Best thing you can do for any submersible pump is put a nice big blob of aquarium silicone in and around the wire and wire sheath that exits the motor after a few years of salt water the wire gets brittle and the water eventually finds its way into the motor past the (special resin ) aquarium silicone will prevent this from happening and shorting out your motor i do it on all of my pumps now

Great review, but the cp90 is supposed to be at the surface both blowing straight for the best results. It's cool to aim them in different directions but makes it less effective and having it so deep in the tank makes the wave modes pointless.

  • @340_ISLANDBOI

I know that I’m late as hell for the party, but the cp90 works best at the surface where u will actually see the difference in the wave and power settings. Great vid though!

Hi. On your CP-90 gyre pump..I’m curious if you’re able to rotate the two turbine/flow grills sides independently of the center motor? On mine, one side seems stuck to the motor and the cord hits the mount bracket.. which prevents desired rotation.

    • @prolificbreedaquatics
      @prolificbreedaquatics  5 років тому

I need to check again to make sure but I’m positive they turn independently because when taking it apart to clean, it’s three parts the center and the two sides

Using off brand or something not well known, can we only trial and error? I feel I wanna branch out and try equipment that's not exactly used by many people. I will keep in mind that products can fail. Well done for having a great experience with your new items 😊. That wave maker tiny 👌 I may have to trial a dry run (bare tank with just fresh water) to understand what will work. I've never had any luck with barebottom, do you think it'll pass on to my salt setup? My plans have been pushed back a little but I'll eventually get there..
super simple salt setup on a budget
Not cheap. Thanks mate 👍 🐠

I recommend jebao for the value. The two i have would work for your 250 since you can adjust the strength of the waves
