I love using homemade zaxby's sauce for smash burgers! But tonight is going to be big mac sauce just so I can try it with the rehydrated dried minced onion :)
There are two types of french dressing. One is darker red in color and sweeter (also known as "Catalina French". The other is orange, and has less sugar.
Here in Australia, French dressing is a sweet vinaigrette. I'm originally from the states & in almost 30 yrs here, I've never seen the American style French dressing.
I never knew that. I knew about Catalina from my Grandparents from Cynthiana Kentucky…when I think about how they said Catalina and i was not imagining French. Grandma liked ranch Grandpa liked Catalina LOL
It looks really good. One thing about the Big Ma sauce, a guy who use to be a corporate chef for McDonald's showed how to make Big Mac sauce and said that the sauce doesn't have any ketchup. He said that the color comes from paprika.
I love that you rehydrated dehydrated onions, since that was absolutely what Mickey D’s did waaaay back in the day. They may still, now that I think about it.
French Dressing also comes in a much redder version(you were correct) some areas also have a Russian dressing is the redder one. If you mix your McDressing the night before you can put your dehydrated onions into the mixture and they will soak up the moisture from there which also allows your onion flavor to thoroughly mix into the dressing. Half my family is allergic to raw onions, so we either have to cook til translucent or use dehydrated
Totally agree with you Emmy, the onion flavour is key with McD's flavours! My lazy Big Mac sauce dupe is some onion powder rehydrated with a bit of white vinegar (for speed), then mixed with mostly mayo, some mustard, relish, and a bit of ketchup (all to taste). And, another recipe I tried for their sweet and sour sauce was mostly apricot jam with onion powder.
While I love Big Macs, one of my favorite things to order from McDonald's is the regular ole hamburger. I'll often get 2 of them and that's all I'll have. Maybe a small fry as well, if I'm in the mood.
My 4-year old saw this video and was like “Emmy!!!” She watches your videos every night before bed, the ones with your brother are her favorites!!! She even learned to say “itadakimasu” so she can say it the same time as you!!!
Hi Emmy. I love this idea of smashing but I am going to share my Big Mac dressing recipe with you. Yours is probably good but to get the actual signature taste of a big mac is the smoked paprika in the dressing. Try it and see if you like it as well or better. Big Mac Dressing Ingredients: 2 Tlbs. of the diced dill pickle 1/2 cup of mayonnaise 2 tsp of mustard 1 tsp white vinegar 1/2 tsp smoked paprika Sweetener of choice to equal 1 1/2 tbls of sugar or just use sugar Add all dressing ingredients into a bowl and whisk till fully blended. Set dressing in fridge until needed.
Just as I was sitting here, making kind of a frowny face and muttering, "no pickle?".... Then came our Emmy's "pickle moment," and I laughed so hard I startled the cat! :D
One thing in particular about French dressing that is technically French is that to make it, one always starts out with one generous dollop of Dijon mustard. Just something random I read someplace about it.
I just thought of doing this the other day! I had the burger cooked and looking for Buns when I thought about cutting the patty in half and using a Tortilla shell. It fits perfectly!!
I worked at McDonald’s and the Big Mac sauce is just thousand island dressing. Not much of a secret when you pull out a giant pack of thousand island to refill the Big Mac sauce bottles.
Just a couple of nights ago my daughter made these for supper, using flour tor tortillas. They were so good! The burger is crispy, and with the other ingredients added in, is was perfect. I love love a Big Mac, but I always end up with a hot mess. We don’t have any fast food restaurants where I live, the middle of nowhere, but these smash burgers are delicious.
If you're in Australia, Coles "Special Burger Sauce" is very, very, very close to the Big Mac sauce. They also have "Special Burger Pickles" which are the same. ❤
My cousin said she was making these with her kids, when we bumped into them in the supermarket 😂 i had never heard of them, but they sound & look good!
Looks like a great idea. If you're doing low carb, there are low carb tortillas available which makes this a great variation of using lettuce wrapped burgers. Growing up, I loved French dressing. I always had to make it from scratch and it was usually a red-ish color from the ketchup. making the dressing from scratch also makes it so you can control the carb content.
I don't usually do salt and MSG together; in fact, I'm more apt to use MSG alone, because it's less likely to raise my husband's blood pressure, but I also think it makes food taste savory enough without needing salt as well. However, for this I might use furikake instead, to get the saltiness but also a little added sweetness and some sesame to compensate for the missing bun.
Neat! Never seen this idea b4, totally going to try it this weekend, thanks again for another meal night idea, you keep rockin my world, best food youtuber ever!!!!
Ahhhhh Que lindo! Those are the best tortillas. Even better than the little corn ones. Anyway their cute and delicious. Their like the jumbo flour ones piped out a baby
My only issue is when you introduce raw meat to the tortilla you’ve already possibly contaminated the tortillas because even if the meat gets cooked, the bacteria soaked into the tortilla doesn’t. Cook the meat smash style then add it to the tortilla, if you then wish to cook onions , cheese etc then add it and put it under the broiler for several minutes or so.
I have been making Big Mac, Whopper and Rodeo Burger grilled wraps for years. I have also done a tribute to my hometown of Rochester, NY and made a Garbage Wrap which consists of a Cheeseburger, home fries, Mac salad, onions, hot sauce (meat sauce), mustard and ketchup.
Your whale shirt has always been my favorite 🖤 I love your videos, can't believe it's been over 10 years since I started watching you for your candy kits!
Often when it comes down to how something tastes it's the sauce or gravy, it makes all the difference, bet if you made a batch of the sauce and kept it in a bottle in the fridge your kids would love it. Love your vlogs especially the MRE ones, take care T.T.F.N. xx
If you use miracle whip vs mayo you dont need the sugar or vinegar. The big mac sauce recipe ive used for a few decades i got from Phil Donahue in the 80s. Miracle Whip French dressing. The orange one. Not Catalina the redder one. Pickle relish Dehydrated onion. Thats it. Its perfect.
I love the sweet flavor of their bread. When I was a kid I used to take the caramel from my apples. And rip the top of my cheeseburger bun, and then dip the bread in the caramel 😂 my mom thought it was so weird but it was great
I haven't read all the comments, but has anyone anywhere ever pointed out that this is the homemade version of the Jack in the Box taco? Go to Jack In The Box order a taco that is what you get the only difference is the shell won't be baked it will be deep fried.
Question? What’s MSG? Is it a flavoring that’s in Big Macs? I’m def going to try this recipe. ❤❤❤ love your channel. French dressing is very orangish but the creamy is a lighter color. French is my absolute favorite dressing. Yum. I thought the Big Mac had thousand island sauce. 🤦🏼♀️
I can’t wait to try this! As you were assembling the Big Mac taco I kept asking my screen “Where’s the pickle? Don’t forget the pickle!” No need to fear, Amy heard our lament and she came through… as always!
I have a question about the big mac sauce according to the one that went out by someone whose associated with the company that recipe says Kraft Miracle Whip and Mayo.. as is says they use Sweet and Dill relish does omitting any of them make a huge difference in the taste? For example not adding the Miracle Whip or Dill relish...
Looks good. May have to try this sometime. You were actually reading my mind. As you were putting the taco together, I kept saying that you were missing the pickle then you were going through the Big Mac sandwich and realized you were missing the pickle.
I think you might be thinking of Russian dressing. It is a dark red with black pepper flecks and is sweet and vinegary as well. I have seen it labeled as French at salad bars, tho. I think the taco version was also missing rehydrated onions, Emmy.
I was thinking as to why you didn't cook the meat first and heat the tortillas but I see this is a unique incarnation of a Bic Mac but in taco form .. gotta try this!💗
I would make this more of a taco with big mac vibes. Taco seasoning in the burger, make a pickle de gallo, add a lil chipotle pepper into the mac sauce. Best of both worlds!
No matter how hard my "foodie" friends rail against it, I sincerely love an occasional Big Mac just for the big bang of flavor (if I want a serious *burger* burger, I'll go to Red Robin). The "taco" version looks so good, and so easy! It'll cost a lot less too. I'm definitely trying it soon :D

For years, till I got the special sauce formula, I just used bottled Thousand Island for my Big Mac dupes.
Mustard
Sweet BBQ sauce
I love using homemade zaxby's sauce for smash burgers! But tonight is going to be big mac sauce just so I can try it with the rehydrated dried minced onion :)
I mix mayo, ketchup, mustard and A1 steak sauce together for hamburgers. I take the A1 out for my hot dog
Every time I see a trending recipe I think “I can’t wait for the Emmy review” cause in Emmy we trust! ❤
True
There are two types of french dressing. One is darker red in color and sweeter (also known as "Catalina French". The other is orange, and has less sugar.
So, if you are adding sugar, then probably use the regular french dressing, not Catalina.
Here in Australia, French dressing is a sweet vinaigrette. I'm originally from the states & in almost 30 yrs here, I've never seen the American style French dressing.
I love Catalina dressing. Restaurants don't offer it. But it is very delicious.
@@kathynurks4379same in New Zealand, we have French dressing, but it’s not creamy 🤷♀️
I never knew that. I knew about Catalina from my Grandparents from Cynthiana Kentucky…when I think about how they said Catalina and i was not imagining French. Grandma liked ranch Grandpa liked Catalina LOL
Fun fact...in France, French dressing is known as American dressing.
That’s completely delightful!
In Germany French Dressing is also known as American Dressing haha
Or just dressing?
Same with a few other things. A french balcony is not called that in France. French seems when sewing is english seem in France
I thought it will be call dressing from here

Still do. I work at McDonald's. And I am the guy who does the prep
@@Grungy1 that’s wild! Ah, tradition. Thanks for the info!
Catalina dressing is usually very red orange..french is more orange red typically
French Dressing also comes in a much redder version(you were correct) some areas also have a Russian dressing is the redder one.

Mac sauce also has French dressing in it
Beautiful! Couldn't agree more about the onions. Onions and salt make their plain burgers the best. Thanks.
While I love Big Macs, one of my favorite things to order from McDonald's is the regular ole hamburger. I'll often get 2 of them and that's all I'll have. Maybe a small fry as well, if I'm in the mood.
Here in Sweden they have something called American burger dressing, that is totally Big Mac sauce. I love it!
It’s basically just 1,000 island dressing. I find it nasty though 😂
Thank you Emmy! Looks great.
The redder French dressing that you're thinking of might be the Catalina dressing, but I rarely see it.
My 4-year old saw this video and was like “Emmy!!!” She watches your videos every night before bed, the ones with your brother are her favorites!!! She even learned to say “itadakimasu” so she can say it the same time as you!!!

I've only recently (like in the past year) tried the Big Mac and I am obsessed!! I get it every time now!!
I love love LOVE these videos. They are so much fun to watch.
I just thought of doing this the other day! I had the burger cooked and looking for Buns when I thought about cutting the patty in half and using a Tortilla shell. It fits perfectly!!
Catalina dressing is more red. It is similar to French, just a bit tangier/ more acidic. 😊
I worked at McDonald’s and the Big Mac sauce is just thousand island dressing. Not much of a secret when you pull out a giant pack of thousand island to refill the Big Mac sauce bottles.

I still put beets on my burgers because of my experience at Mackers in AUS! You guys know how to live

Your whale shirt has always been my favorite 🖤
I love your videos, can't believe it's been over 10 years since I started watching you for your candy kits!
I don't care about duplicating the Big Mac taste, but I love smash burgers. This just looks like fun and an easy, neat way to make and eat them!
Big mac sauce is mayo 1 cup, mustard 1tsp, vinegar 1/2 tsp, sweet pickle relish 1tsp, onion powder 1/2 tsp, garlic powder 1/2 tsp, and paprika 1/2 tsp.
That's the right color for creamy French dressing. Regular French dressing is a touch redder but the red ones are Russian or Catalina dressing.
Emmy you’re the greatest!!!! Xoxo
Gonna have to try this!
The reddish French dressing usually has the word Catalina in the title (Catalina French Dressing). It's sweeter & a maybe a bit more vinegary.
Often when it comes down to how something tastes it's the sauce or gravy, it makes all the difference, bet if you made a batch of the sauce and kept it in a bottle in the fridge your kids would love it. Love your vlogs especially the MRE ones, take care T.T.F.N. xx
Happy Summer Emmy Your Beautiful as Always ❤💕

The big mac sauce recipe ive used for a few decades i got from Phil Donahue in the 80s.
Miracle Whip
French dressing. The orange one. Not Catalina the redder one.
Pickle relish
Dehydrated onion.

I can't wait to try this idea
In Northern California and Nevada we have a fast food place called Jimboys. The serve a Taco Burger that is very like this but includes Queso Fresco.
My kiddos bday is tomorrow. These sound great.
I love the sweet flavor of their bread. When I was a kid I used to take the caramel from my apples. And rip the top of my cheeseburger bun, and then dip the bread in the caramel 😂 my mom thought it was so weird but it was great
That is completely genius what the heck 😂
Yes, it’s all about those rehydrated dried minced onions. (Well, and the the pickles.)

I've always subbed Thousand Island dressing for Big Mac Sauce, but that homemade sauce looks interesting, so I will have to try it next time.
We had them for dinner tonight! Love these!
Need to try that. I love big Macs. Looks yummy.
Big Mac sauce is more of thousand island salad dressing, not French where I live in the states
@emmymade How did you balance your yellow Dutch oven on the orange one until 4:48?😁

Mono sodium glutamate. It’s a flavor enhancer. Use very sparingly.

No need to fear, Amy heard our lament and she came through… as always!
I've seen Sweet Hawaiian street taco flour tortillas, maybe that would add a bread-like sweetness?
I haven't seen orangy French dressing in years. It sux because I use it in a specific recipe and the creamy isn't the same
I miss the Mac wraps
I don't know how much these tacos taste like Big Mac, but this idea of cooking the ground beef in the tortilla sounds really practical!
Catalina dressing is more red French is more mixture of yellow and red
Thank you for the pdf Emmy! You are great
I made these last week and it was amazing!!❤
made these twice. absolutely fire and super easy.
OMG that looks amazing!!
I appreciate how Emmy talks proper with no vocal fry like everyone else

We’ve cut all fast foods, and cook alternatives at home. We ALL feel better because of it. We eat these once a week with homemade Mac sauce.
Big Mac Sauce
1/4 cup mayo
1 tbsp French Dressing
1 tbsp relish

Catalina french dressing is red it is put out by kraft.

I have used tortillas instead of loaf bread for years and now they can replace buns! Great idea, Emmy!
Yum what a great idea thankyou❤😂
Made these a few weeks ago ! They were delicious
This looks so delicious 😋
Yesssssssssss! The rehydrated onions!
SO key.
You might be thinking of Catalina dressing; I always mix the 2 up. But I thought that Big Mac sauce was more Thousand Island-y.
This is a super cool idea! I'm adding it to my "to-do" list for sure 👀
You may be thinking of Catalina dressing which is bright red.
Awesome idea
