Great job! This gave me a lot of ideas for practical angle work on wings. I always wire things up too early and it gets messy because I want to test out thruster profiles
I tend to do the same, wire the ship up in an early state, and then having to remove all those wires again to be able to finish the rest of the ship... Takes a lot of time, but at least you'll know for sure the ship will work :D
The most important thing about them is the closer they are to each other - the better. Or if your ship has forward thrust exceding other thrust forces, the center of thrust should Lie on the backward-forward axis of the ship. If it's not, the ship will rotate in the direction of the center of thrust. You can watch a tutorial on youtube "Center of Thrust in Relation to Center of Mass : Such Great Physics"
True, that would have worked for access for sure, sadly the ship didn't really work structurally... I might get back to building a similarly shaped ship at some point though :D
- This video should have a disclamer that it is dangerous to watch for people, swensitive to flashing lights and rapid turning! I just kept closed my eyes most of the time. - Cool design. Looks star-warsy. - And that info about the grid is really helful! I'm gona scrap my old blueprint with randomly selected beams and redo it with the grid.
This is a class build, love the wings but wish the main section wasn't just a box. Is there a way to build up the frame around the generators and stuff instead?
Oof, I don't think I'd be able to find that still... They should all be from the UA-cam audio library though, but I really don't remember the names of the tracks I used, sorry :/
@@marinervalley1588 Probably not to this one, after making the video I realized how inefficient the design really was... I will definitely make an asteroid eater some time soon though!
Hmm... *If* I do finish this ship (realized after making the video that it really wouldn't work that well), I'd probably put a mining laser turret or two somewhere... Maybe one on either wing?
@@TheMhalpern That could work too... I'll have to see, the lasers were added after I filmed the video, so I didn't really think about them while building. I'll probably end up making a mining ship dedicated to eating asteroids using the lasers at some point :p
That's definitely not just you ^^ I've noticed it before, and this video once again confirmed that... I'll see if I can get it fixed sooner rather than later!
Haha, yeah uh... The ship kind of broke with the newer updates, sadly... I'm planning some more videos, including builds, but recently haven't been able to make any. Soon though, I hope ^^
@@panzerswineflu Mostly the connection between the "wings" and the cockpit became unstable, but yea, that was luckily still in the editor, I hadn't bought the ship yet :p
I wish I *had* a finished product to show, after making this video I realized the ship, as built here, was really not viable... I'll try to make a new one similar to it at some point though!
the game design is broken right now, you get always structural error out of everything, even if you put 10000 bolt and melding the beam correctly. The game's spaceship design is garbage. It's a shame because I wasted more that 50h to understand it... it's a total mess.
I would recommend having a look over on Simulator Haven's channel, he has a really good "One hour, one ship" video where he shows how to get a small ship up and running. While I agree getting into ship design is a bit of a hurdle, I can guarantee you it's totally possible to make ships, and once you get a hang of the game's mechanics it becomes fairly easy to do so. I'd suggest sticking with it for a bit longer, and, just in case you hadn't yet; start as simple as possible ^^
@@Senkii I wish... but damn, take beam, meld them, put a plate on it, and get stupid structural error when you bolted it with 12 bolts in all corner, join this, and it become a nightmare to understand what the fck is wrong with the most simple structure you build. I would just love if they remove stupid bolt, or at least, they make them more effective, or anything because right now, it's pure garbage.
@@xagnarok3991 Are you sure your ship has a valid frame, with thrusters attached to it? If not, it could cause unexplainable durability issues because the game has no applied forces to base it's calculations on yet (that sounds like a possible cause for issues like that, though it's hard to tell through just UA-cam comments, of course). If you'd like some more assistance, feel free to shoot me a message on Discord, that makes things a lot easier!

could you by chance do a video explaining center of mass and center of thrust. I am really struggling to grab the concept

Can always make a floor hatch and ladder to access the fuel storage floor, right? it'd take minimal space on the main floor.

You've given me an idea for a Borg mining ship. Probably already done but, we'll see.
Even if it's already been done, doesn't mean you shouldn't! :D
Building a giant 125 storage borg cube as we speak. Well, pho-cube. Because you sit behind it. But still

Ah, my apologies if the video caused discomfort, I had not thought about that :/
Glad to hear it was helpful though!
great work! Kinda looks like something i would build. In fact it kinda looks like my first ever ship merged with the 30° aspect of my Demetrios
Yeah, hard to build a 30 degree angled miner *without* it looking similar to the Demetrios :p
That is still one hell of an awesome ship though ^^
@@Senkii touché. Demetrios is like exclusively made of 30° parts :p
@@Black-zn4ir True, that has got to be one of the more iconic ships of early CA!
Ship editor looks great when you get used to all the buttons. I need to play with that some more.
It definitely does take some getting used to, but once you do, it's a super powerful tool ^^
Ship editor is literally just game dev itself. Literally how you building in unreal and unity.

Yeah, that would totally be possible, though given the other issues with this design I haven't bothered anymore... :c

anychance we could get the file for the ship?
It reminds me of the La sirena F17 Kaplan freighter from Star Trek Picard
I guess it does have some similarities, yeah :p
