    How wonderful must it be to walk into that polytunnel every day and find a different blossom to show. I won't say lucky. You didn't make a collection like that from luck. It took a lot of care, planning and time. Job well done. Just because you enjoy the work doesn't mean that you didn't didn't do a lot of it.
    Thought you might like to know. Here in Ohio, the temperature is 32 degrees Celsius and has been for about a week. All the grass is turning brown from the heat, but that is normal here. It will go back to green when it gets cooler in the fall. We are expecting thunderstorms for the next three or four days, then more heat. Typical Ohio summer. That's why so many Irish-Americans dream of going back to Ireland.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      It really is so wonderful to walk into the polytunnel and see the blooms and there are so many in bud that there is almost a new bloom every day, WOW at the 32 degrees, thats so warm, we are lucky to get above the mid teens here even in summer haha, although we have had good weather this Spring and Summer with lots more sunshine than normal, thanks so much Emmit for your wonderful support and comments and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Ohio for a fantastic Friday XXXX

    Hi Lynn! I commented on one of your videos that my echinopsis is growing a bud:). I wanted to ask, should I fertilize once a week or stop fertilizing it? I fear the bud will die if I mess up

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Randy :-D I would still carry on fertilising your Echinopsis but I would fertilise once every two weeks instead of once a week, but it can depend on how often you need to water it, you can still fertilise once a week if you prefer but use the fertiliser at half the strength, I still carry on fertilising them all through the Summer and into the early fall/ Autumn too :-D I bet you are so looking forward to seeing the bloom very soon, thanks so much for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER XXXX

    Hey, so I have a nice area for planting outside, I was wondering whether there were any hardy cactus for my region (london). I know London being within the urban heat island has a hotter climate, thats why I mentioned London
    As in hardy I mean can survive a winter

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      The fantastic news is because you are in London you get the much higher temps and less rain than many other parts of the UK, you can definitely plant out the Opuntia prickly pear cacti as most of them are hardy in low temps in Winter as long as they can be protected from excess rain, and also Agave is hardy if protected from excess rains, you can definitely grow them outside during winter in London if you can shelter the excess rain during the Winter months, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to London for a fantastic Friday XXXX

      @@desertplantsofavalon Thanks! I wouldn't say we get less rain haha we still do get a lot. I have an Opuntia but I'm not sure if it's a prickly pear cactus, I will try and root a propagated pad in a pot and then move it outside and see how it goes

    Nice video! Recently I've been looking into different soil for my cacti and I've just been using cheep soil from the dollar store, however I noticed it dries out very slowly. Could this cause my cacti to rot or does soil really matter that much? Thanks!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      Hi Nehemiah, oh yes its very important that you use only a soil made especially for cactus and succulents, as normal soil that is for houseplants will be too high in peat and other materials that can cause cacti to rot, re pot your cacti into a very well draining cactus soil or you can make your own cactus soil which is much more economical to do, I use loam based soil mixed with sharp sand or grit or pumice, here is a link to a video I have made on How I make my own cactus soil : ua-cam.com/video/8s9Jq7qbfA0/v-deo.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      @@nehemiahedwards5805 Hi Nehemiah :-D yes sand is excellent for drainage and as long as the soil dries out fast in between waterings this will be wonderful XXXX
