Master System also has Outrun and Space Harrier 3D. These are also very interesting.

I'm not sure how it plays, but all things considered, the Space Harrier port _looks_ like an admirable effort.
I never knew the sprites being background tiles as the reason for their blocky-ness. Always wondered about this.

I don't think I ever played Outrun on the Master System back in the day. Feel like I missed out a bit as it looks like a respectable port, and I'm currently obsessed with it on the Saturn. I remember thinking Afterburner on the MS was really impressive when I borrowed it from a school friend. It just looked so cool back then. Hang On was a great game to bundle with the MS when it launched, and I still enjoy playing it to this day. I find the in game sound FX hypnotic and relaxing ☺️. However the sprite scaler I played most on the MS back in the day was Galaxy Force. My parents still had a black and white TV when I first got the game, so imagine my joy when I first played Galaxy Force in colour 😲🤯😎😂. New subscriber here 🤘 keep up the good work 🙌

Thanks for the sub :) Yep I had Hang-On built into a master system and played it a load. I haven't covered the Galaxy Force ports in any video yet so I'll add that to the list.

There is also a cool version of Hang On (2) on the SG 1000.

So, the question for this video - which is your favourite arcade super scaler? I'd have to go with OutRun, think it's aged the best.

hey man. you're making some interesting videos. keep it up.
only thing is your voice is much quieter than the sound effects you splice in. perhaps turn up the gain on your mic.

Hi and thanks for the encouragement. Yes, you're right about the mic. It's one part of my setup that hasn't been consistent so I'll address that in future. It's good to get the feedback!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted a positive comment here yet, I love this series of videos. Most of these ports are really impressive, Hang-On is a really good port, it captures the feeling of the game and runs really well and the sound effects are close, although the lack of music is very disappointing. Space Harrier is unique but definitely not great, it plays poorly and looks so clunky, but the theme song is really good! Outrun’s port looks great to me, it’s really well done, the best ports from the time in my opinion would sacrifice some graphical detail but find their own good looking style, and nail that controls and gameplay, and Outrun definitely seems to do that great. Music is awesome too and it looks very smooth.
After Burner is probably the most disappointing one to me, it’s WAYYYY too choppy. But the music is good enough and the sprites are huge, it’s just a shame it runs so poorly. It’s impressive how the did the ground detail though, the mega drive version could’ve benefitted from that technique.
This is a good video but I’m glad the volume issues were fixed in future videos, your channel really improved over time but even this video is good.

No problem mate. I'm a retro gamer/collector myself. I love all things SEGA from arcade to home. Looking forward to the new videos!

Hi ! I just found this video as I was seeing how my latest (master system flavoured) was doing on the search results. Great stuff, you seem to like comparison videos too. In fact I've got an Amiga Super scaler comparison video in the works ( ready to show in a few weeks).
Take a look at my channel if you like, I'll certainly be watching yours!

Omg the static sound effect. MY EARS!!!
Please turn up your mic a lot or turn down your sound effects by a lot.
