During these gray times you have to grab those little pieces of happiness like seagull slides and "hamburg" dives. I grew up in Michigan, small town, so this really warms my heart. Thanks for posting!!
Lol! Nobody can find taxidermied animals like you can! It's your super power. 😊 The vintage snowmobiles were really cool. They had a lot more character back then!
Can I just say, it's really awesome that you always say "we" when talking about where you're headed or what you're doing next. It really makes it feel like all us fans are going along with you! As someone who has been working from home for almost a year and has had very few adventures since COVID began, I very much appreciate you Jacob.
I've been subscribed to you for 2 years now and I think this might be one of my favorite series because it's really unique! Thanks for putting out some of the best stuff on you tube
This was awesome! Thank you. I was born and we currently live in NC, but my husband is a Michigander and his family lives up there. We vacation every year on Lake Huron in Oscoda, so cool to see you visited that area. We've been to Dinosaur Gardens, Besser Museum, and Mackinaw City and love them all! Can't wait to go back. Thanks for filling my winter with some Michigan memories.
You really have a wonderful eye for the unusual. Loved this portion of the trip. That museum was a little gem. The cherry pie was the best. Really enjoyed this. Happy Travels. Keep Safe ❤ Keep Well ❤
After all the haunts we’ve been on with Jacob. The craziest scary thing ever was watching him walk on that ice. Hahaha dang straight up crazy in an awesomest way.
Really enjoying this series. Pinconning is noted for it's longhorn cheese. Probably explains the mice. Also the old timers used to call hamburgers simply hamburgs. I grew up in michigan. 👍
Deer Acres was a tiny amusement park. My family and I went there when I was about 10. Pinconning Cheese is AMAZING! Oddly, all the Family Videos up here are open and seemingly doing well, but they do all sell CBD, which is an odd combo, movies and CBD, lol! I used to live in Ossineke, so you were walking around in my old stomping grounds, lol. Same with Alpena, but now we live about an hour west of there. Believe it or not, even though I lived just down the road, I never went into Dinosaur Gardens. I need to change that. That big eagle head at the museum was made by Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works, which is here in Onaway only about 3 miles from our house. He makes tons of iron sculptures. The story on that wolf is after they transplanted wolves back here to northern Michigan some farmer thought it was a coyote and shot it. 😔 He was fined and it was seized and taxidermied for the museum. It was all over our local news when it happened. The Yeck Drive In has amazing food! We just tried it last summer. Yes, Mystery Town USA is still in business and doing fine. They are just closed for the winter right now. Somebody made a mistake in fall 2019 when they closed for the winter and marked it as permanently closed and confused everybody, lol! Great video as always and it was really fun seeing you go to all the places my husband and I grew up around!
This is an awesome series! The bird slide was the best laugh I’ve had in a while. I’m from Kentucky but lived for 5 years near the UP of Michigan in Wisconsin. Went for family vacation to Makinaw Island. Somewhere there’s a picture of me and my grandpa on frozen waves. Really enjoying these videos. Long time subscriber!
The Paul Bunyan in Ossineke (Oss-in-eek) used to have a speaker in his shirt pocket and he would speak. Alpena also has a shipwreck museum that is really cool.
Loving this series, Jacob. (I'm dying to see inside some of these cheese and butcher shops!) Thanks for showing the overlooked parts of this country beyond the typical homogenized landscape of Walmarts and Targets and McDonalds...no idea there was so much old neon out there. Awesome.
You inspire me. I used to be a pipe dreamer until I found you and thank God I did. You show people what you like because you like it, Everyone else(Most UA-camrs) on this platform is more about just the money you can make from the content.
I have family in Michigan. I live in southern Arizona but, my hometown is Elizabethtown Kentucky which the Dixie highway goes through. Can't wait to see your video of my home town!
Love this series of videos! I was excited to see the 45th parallel sign. I live about a block away from it in Oregon. Can’t wait to see the rest of this series.
I’m a long time viewer and I was so excited to see that you passed through my hometown. I wish I would have had a chance to meet you and say hello. Safe travels and I hope that I may get a chance to meet you one day 😁
I admire you for risking weather and coming up to my part of the country. We don’t see many vloggers up here. Most are southern boys without your bravery
Theres one near me in Muncie, Indiana. We used to have one in my hometown too, Berwyn, IL at Bunyan's hotdogs..You walked between his legs to enter the hotdog stand ..good memories..awesome vid bagger!!
@@majorbuzz yep home to svengoolie lol! Rich (the current svengoolie) was our neighbor for many years..I didn't realize my horrible typos!! I used to love going to the original HRI on 31st, unfortunately they just knocked it down a couple months ago..Idk why, should of been marked historical. My father used to live right next door to Fitzgerald's, above the old pizza place that used to be there (next to Wilks the liquor/neighborhood store). They filmed sooo many cool movies there when we were little (Mid to late 80's until about 90) We met Madonna (filming a league of their own), Ralph Macchio's girlfriend from karate kid (forgot her name lol), we saw Tom Cruise buying tampons in Wilks lol! Those are the few that stuck out, I was born in 81..I'd have to ask my Dad about the others, but it was very cool. I live in Indiana now near Indianapolis..so i'm not too far away. I go out there at least once a month but it has changed so much.. it's sad. My parents are still there.. my Dad refuses to move out of Berwyn and my mom is next door in Brookfield with family scattered through out the burbs. It will always be home! Hello Jacob!! Lovin the series! There is a Family Video still opened in Lima Ohio on Cole St. Here's hoping you have plenty of warm cloths. Brrr! Stay safe.
My husband, who created the map Jacob is using, is from Michigan. I always thought of Michigan as a state of steel and soot. After numerous trips up north, I have come to love this very beautiful state. We never take a trip there without a visit to the DIA and a burger (or two or three) from Motz.

Jacob, you sure find the neatest attractions! I liked the mouse & cheese best. I think my hobby cow would handle your weight enough to ride it once, it's on a steel spring cemented into the ground..
Another scary bridge!! Lol I saw the Mackinaw Bridge on a list of most scary bridges in the United States. Crazy. That Family Video closed quickly. You were just there yesterday if I have your video uploads correct. I guess Paul Bunyan pride is a thing!! I only consider him a character from childhood stories. My dad grew up near Oscoda along the shores of the Au Sable River. He remembers visiting the Paul Bunyan statue and the Dinosaur Gardens when he was a kid. Great video!
Dinosaur Gardens is a childhood favorite of mine, my family would stop there often on our way to Alpena to visit my grand parents. The Paul Bunyan with Babe The Ox that you took a photo with , i remember they used to reside at a small goat petting zoo years ago and always loved visiting the Besser Museum as a kid! this just brings back good memories!
Great content, Carpetbagger! Something about the scenery of northern towns/cities with the decaying industrial areas mixed with the expansive grey nothingness of winter that really fascinates me. A great snapshot of that particular chunk of America.
