Personally, I really appreciate how in Fullmetal Alchemist, the soldiers are not just stupid cannon fodder, and they actually score points (and headshots) against powerful foes like Father. By having normal characters fight effectively, Fullmetal raises the maturity of the show, by making true badass characters like Roy or Wrath seem even more badass.

What i love from this anime is that every character is important, even background characters, like that soldier who shot Father in the head and saved em. It not just Ichigo and his friends or Naruto and his friends doing all the work. It's an unpredictable anime. In a typical shounen anime, Scar would have killed Kimblee because the power of the nakamas, justice and revenge, but it was killed by Heinkel, you could never expected that, and for that reason, this anime/manga is amazing.

I get goosebumps when I imagine Father casually deflecting everyone’s attack’s prior to this, and he did stare or acknowledge anyone in particular as they failed to get around his shield. The goosebumps proceed to start when Mustang shows up, blasts him with a flame barrage similar to Isshins “Getsuga Tenshou” and Father just gave him a glare of annoyance, acknowledging the sheer power Mustang has and acknowledging his attack as the one he launched just now as getting past his shield, forcing him to defend against the blast head-on, instead of shrugging it off like the others. I just love how the scene continues to show how much of a threat Mustang and his Flame Alchemy was to him and his kin. Burning Lust amd Envy, Pride acknowledging his danger to the Homunculi and their regeneration. Father silently acknowledging Mustangs attack just added into it.
I love this fight. My favorite final battle in anime. Just EVERYONE, even the "puny humans" putting forth everything they have against this incredible threat, wearing him down bit by bit.
I love a show that puts power in the hands of the regular soldiers like this one does. Without that headshot everyone probably would've just been killed.
Also, it is GREAT how these were Mustang's BEST attacks. All the other times when he went full match power was out of brainless anger but here he was 200% focused AND being blind proving the homonculus wrong when they felt said that he no longer represented a menace.
Late 3 years, but I agree ... Friendship, shining side character, plot twist, strategic battle, balance power system, badass women and man, romance, comedy, great length, great song, Not every aspect is perfect, but all of them balanced, make this show a perfect show
I like the way father is initially very detached but as the fight goes on he's showing more emotion and effort as it becomes clear they might actually kill him.

His empty gate itself is a proof of that. But Van!!! This man would've been a walking extinction event. I cannot possibly be the only one wondering what his Gate looks like. You know what I think? I think Roy could've destroyed Father just as long as he doesn't get close to him. Nigga was literally blinded just so he doesn't destroy the final villain of the show himself lol. Even Father and Pride admitted that his abilities are the most problematic of all the alchemists present.
Agreed, Roy is absolutely terrifying.
