I know Les Paul was an incredible, legendary master... But I have to admit that it's really Mary Ford who I find truly mesmerizing. Like Patsy Cline, she just had one of those absolutely amazing voices that just blew me away.

My God, he is so fast. With the tens of thousands of guitar players today, that can shred a guitar with great speed, I don't think they have anymore skill or speed than this guy had.
Years ago there was an over night talk radio show on WOR-AM in New York City hosted by Joey Reynolds. Les Paul was a night owl and frequently was a guest on the show. He'd go for hours at a time. It was clear he was a man who lived a life with every minute of it having substance. He was quite the character on top of being multi-talented in so many disciplines. I still can recall listening to him and Mary Ford back in the 50's with that unique sound of theirs. It was very exciting. I'm so glad we had him for 93 years.
Man, thanks for posting this. It's now 2022 and I love watching and listening. I received this program as a gift for my birthday on VHS cassette way back in 1994. As a guitarist of nearly 60 years I am constantly learning from the masters, and Les Paul is THE master of the guitar.
Both Les Paul & Leo Fender created the most iconic guitars in the world. I havee both a American Standard Fender Stratocaster & a Gibson Les Paul Studio and I cherish them both.
I bought my first Les Paul in 1968. It.was a Black Beauty, aka a Custom. I own three more now. Can't say enough great things about them, and i feel deeply indebted to the Maestro for inventing them.

Les was the first guitar player I ever saw on TV in Chicago and the next guy I heard was Chet Atkins... To this day, they are still my favorites all time...! They layed the groundwork for all others...! And both could really play, both virtuoso players with different styles but both great....Love it...Greg G...IN
Note that Les Paul developed 8-track recording in the 1950s; but at EMI recording was still two-track mono at the beginning of "The Beatles" career there in 1962.

I started listening to Les Paul when I was about 10 im now 69. Then allways thought it was lots guiters. I trid guiter lesson no good. My son plays guiter Im so proud of him. Thanks for posting this so great thankyou.

Jimi got me and that was it I always played Strats I never knew what a pioneer Les was until watching this I know have 3 Paul's. He was a true vision and played the total hell out of a guitar. Never knew my bad
That funny because I'm just the opposite. I'm 69 now and still play every day but was always a LP kind of guy. Learned mostly 70s and 80s rock using Les Paul's, SGs , Kramer's and Jacksons. I usually had a strat and a tele but rarely played them. A couple of years ago I decided to learn Little Wing and plugged in my Strat that had been neglected forever. It's a 86 made in Japan. By the time I learned the intro to little wing I had a whole new awakening about Strats. Now I find myself playing it often. I really think tuned down 1/2 step really feels and sounds better on a strat.
I had no idea Les Paul had a home in Mahwah, NJ, which is where I grew up. I don't know if I would call it the countryside though...it's 35-40 minutes outside of NYC.

I had a chance to chat with him at the bar right before he went on and then again after he finished. He even signed a cassette box set of his that I bought that night. I remember it like it was yesterday......
Les Paul was a great guitarist. He was a pioneer in recording. He did not invent the solid body electric guitar. He did not design the Gibson Les Paul guitar and , other than seeing the prototype and agreeing to lend his name to marketing it, had very little to do with the design. He has worked ver hard to take credit for it, however. Check out Merle Travis or Paul Bigsby. And Leo Fender and Adolph Rickenbacker. All had a hand in the design of the first solid body guitar. There were full guitars made before Les Paul’s “log”.

When I bought the Chet and Lester album way back I thought it was full of cheap sounding and corny, overblown chorus and reverb effects. I'll have to take a new listen. While I knew Chet Atkins was world class, I never relealezed Les Paul was also.

It was in 1969 after Page did what appeared as Anton Levee style Devil worship 😳 on a vintage Les Paul with a violin bow 🙇♂️ and also played his own melodic guitar riffs with trebleized Clapton-beano-tones that went main stream virual. Thats also when Page teamed up with a great singer, Robert Plant, ect.. Did they all sell their souls, or is that just commercial-rock legend?

One of my biggest regrets was not making it to see Les at The Iridium. I did visit there after he passed, and the Les vibe is all over the place
